Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Changes in Battle Data

The Pokemon Hotel's battle arena allowed Trainers to train their Pokemon here. The walls and flooring were constructed with exceptionally durable materials; however, any damages incurred would require compensation.

Nevertheless, the hotel also provided dedicated arenas specifically for Pokemon battles, which significantly reduced instances of damage caused by battling Pokemon.

Lian stood on one side with Treecko, while Kalia positioned herself at the front, her expression focused.

"Charmander, try releasing Ember towards the ground," instructed Kalia, aiming to assess Charmander's proficiency with its moves.

Each Pokemon varies in the time it takes to master a move, so understanding a Pokemon's control over its abilities is crucial for Trainers.

Lian opened his mouth and released a burst of Ember onto the ground. Upon impact, the flames dissipated without leaving any trace.

"Can you release it again? Let me see the interval between each use." Kalia's eyes lit up as Charmander promptly spat out another Ember. This rapid-fire capability could be highly advantageous during battles.

However, she needed to determine the exact interval between Charmander's Ember releases. If the gap was significant, alternative moves would have to be interspersed during combat.

Feeling his Fire-type energy replenish, Lian unleashed another flame within less than three seconds from the previous attempt.

"Two and a half seconds?" Kalia glanced at her stopwatch, astonished by this release interval. Although Ember is the most basic Fire-type move, its fundamental nature makes it crucial.

The stronger the foundation, the greater the potential.

"It seems Ember is performing well. Can you now use the Smokescreen move?" Kalia asked.

Lian shook his head; he was only level 6. According to the game, Charmander typically learns Smokescreen around levels 8 or 9. However, Smokescreen isn't particularly useful as it's an auxiliary move.

"Not yet learned?" Kalia felt slightly disappointed, as Smokescreen is an early auxiliary move for Charmander, allowing it to emit smoke that obstructs the opponent's vision.

However, what matters more than Smokescreen itself is that once mastered, there's a chance for Charmander to subsequently learn Dragon Breath and Dragon Rage—both highly powerful Dragon-type moves.

If Charmander can acquire these early on, not only will its combat strength increase significantly, but it also greatly aids future mastery of other Dragon-type moves.

"Charmander, try combining your cry with Ember. If you get tired, take a break." Kalia recalled reading an article about utilizing the Smokescreen move, which suggested a method to potentially learn it earlier.

Of course, this method only applies to certain Fire-type Pokémon, and the chances of early mastery for Smokescreen are relatively low; however, it increases the likelihood of understanding the move sooner.

Lian felt somewhat skeptical but decided to follow Kalia's instructions and began practicing. After all, there was plenty of food and drink available here, and he could rest whenever needed, as she herself suggested taking breaks when tired.

As Charmander started its training, Kalia turned her attention to coaching Treecko. Speed is Treecko's primary advantage, with Quick Attack currently being its strongest move.

Although Absorb is a Grass-type move, its power is limited, and it can only be improved through actual combat, making specific training challenging.

Therefore, Kalia focused on enhancing Treecko's speed, waiting until it mastered Mega Drain before gaining a potent Grass-type move.

Once that happened, it would also signify the time for Kalia to challenge the Ground-type gym. She didn't want to wait for Treecko to evolve into Grovyle, as it would waste too much time.

Most Ground-type Pokémon are not particularly fast but excel in astonishing defensive capabilities. However, they are vulnerable to Grass-type Special moves. Encountering a Treecko proficient in Mega Drain, they would struggle significantly.

Kalia directed Treecko to continuously use Quick Attack, enhancing its control and agility at high speeds.

"How's Charmander's training goi..."

As Kalia turned to check on Charmander's progress, she was taken aback.

Lian had casually sat down at some point, looking as if he'd be munching on sunflower seeds if they were available.

Why are you staring? I'm tired; can't I take a break?

Lian innocently gazed back at Kalia, feeling exhausted and simply needing a moment of rest before continuing practice.

Kalia took a deep breath, puzzled about how Charmander managed to control Ember to release every two and a half seconds. Achieving such precision without extensive practice seemed unlikely, stirring a sudden uneasy feeling within her.

"Charmander, tomorrow I'll inspect your progress. It's fine to rest now, but by tomorrow, you must synchronize your roar with Ember. Otherwise, there will be consequences," Kalia warned.

Lian glanced at Kalia, stood up, and resumed practicing. However, expecting him to seriously train would have been too naive. After only a brief moment, he feigned exhaustion, sitting down once again for a break.

Kalia knew Charmander was slacking off but didn't force it to practice rigorously, as that could have counterproductive effects. Without the constraint of a Poké Ball, their bond was still new and not yet fully established; there was no need for haste.

After some time passed,

Kalia stopped Treecko's training session, as dinner time approached, and she felt quite hungry.

The evening meal was abundant. The Pokemon Hotel had dedicated breeders who specialized in creating nutritious dishes specifically tailored for Charmander and Treecko, using various ingredients with subtle health benefits for Pokemon.

Naturally, such meals came at a high price. Even Kalia indulged only occasionally, and since she didn't stay daily at the Pokemon Hotel, during her outings, she fed Charmander and Treecko energy cubes or store-bought Pokemon food.

Lian thoroughly enjoyed this feast, truly deserving of a grand hotel—absolutely delicious, leaving him craving more.

He felt like he was living his dream life: savoring exquisite cuisine and enjoying a leisurely pace. It would be perfect if every morning started with basking in the sun.

Following dinner, they still had some free time. Lian accompanied Kalia to the hotel's communal area, designated for Trainer battles.

There were multiple battle arenas, with several Trainers currently engaged in Pokemon battles. Among them, some displayed impressive skills.

As a competent Trainer, regularly observing Pokemon battles and studying command strategies is essential. While nurturing a Pokemon's growth is important, prioritizing one's own development as a Trainer is even more crucial.

Kalia watched with great enthusiasm, while Lian found himself nodding off due to the monotonous fights, filled with amateur moves.

Lian and Treecko accompanied Kalia through several Pokemon battles, allowing their dinner to fully digest.

By this time, it was getting late. Upon returning to their room, Kalia didn't immediately go to sleep. Instead, she spent some time exercising until breaking a sweat, then took a shower before finally drifting off.

As Pokemon grow and enhance their abilities, some humanoid Pokemon may start considering their Trainers too weak. Although human physical limits exist, maintaining strong fitness is a fundamental requirement for every Trainer.

Back in his room, Lian promptly lay down on the bed and fell asleep. For him, nothing compares to the bliss of rest; he could never get enough.

At the transition between midnight and early morning, Lian entered the system space, following his routine to check for any changes on today's data panel.

Hmm!

Lian suddenly let out a surprised sound.
