Chapter 22: Chapter 22
He yawned as he woke up, Barry stretched his hands before opening his eyes to find himself in the room of the pokémon center.
'I'm hot.'
He got up the bed and looked around, Pidgey was sleeping on the window side while Nidoran huddled into a corner.
'Note to self, get miniature beds or something like that once I win enough pokémon battles.' Barry thought before heading into the shower.
"Nido."
Barry froze.
He turned around and saw Nidoran looking right.
"Ni, nido." Nidoran rubbed his tummy in a way that it would be impossible to interpret.
"Okay buddy, let me wash up then we'll meditate, after that we'll eat." Barry said.
Nidoran looked at him like he was a serial killer.
He spared a good look towards Pidgey, she was still asleep. There it was, curled around like a ball with a wing acting like a makeshift blanket.
Barry shuffled into the bathroom under the look of Nidoran.
Under the rain of the chill water from the shower he felt his temperature instantly become colder like he was bathing directly under a waterfall.
'Brock.' Barry thought. 'I wonder if I'll be able to get another pokémon inside Viridian forest.'
He was thinking about getting a pokémon that was in the plot, he hoped that by a stroke of luck he would find a pokémon like Riolu inside Viridian forest. Though, it was only wishful thinking.
"I hope I do get it." Barry muttered as he wrapped a towel around his lower body.
He was about leaving when he got an idea …
…
A scream sounded from the bathroom. Pidgey instinctively woke up and prepared a gust attack before stopping to look where the sound originated from, she looked towards Nidoran but he responded with a shrug, as if the noise wasn't uncommon.
Nidoran put a paw over it's ear and suggested Spearow to do the same even though the noise had died down.
…
Barry walked through the pokémon center but he was feeling self-conscious. Trainers glanced his way, because everything – from the way he handled himself to constant inquiry for directions – screamed noob!
He had asked Nurse Joy for the directions to the training center after he was done eating breakfast and he had been directed down the hall then taking a left.
He had not expected this many trainers in just Viridian city, if so then what about Celadon and Saffron!
"I really need to learn the layout of the pokémon center." Barry murmured as he went forward.
He saw a door with a sign on it.
Without a second thought he opened the door, his eyes scanned the scene before him.
A whole room encased in steel.
"I guess this isn't bad." Barry said.
Nidoran flung itself towards one of the walls and began practicing double kick, the pokémon liked the move quite a bit.
It was good that no one else except him was there or they would've been shocked by Nidoran's attitude, he kept kicking the leg with it's feet falling down and then continuing it.
"Isn't that good?" Barry asked to no one in particular as he closed the door behind them.
He was about to continue Pidgey's gust training before he realized something. As he looked at the expectant flying type pokémon next to him, the thought of practicing gust; a flying type move that did nothing else except slow the opponent down made him realize how poor his thinking was.
'Gust was primarily good to strengthen Pidgey's wings because she couldn't flap them long enough but focusing on it would only hinder progress.'
He pulled out his pokédex before uttering a voice command: "Show me all the moves Pidgey is compatible with."
[The normal/flying type pokémon: Pidgey, is compatible with the following moves:
Tackle, sand attack, gust, whirlwind, aerial ace, air slash, hurricane, tailwind, roost, quick attack, agility, feather dance wing attack, twister.]
'So which one should Pidgey try to learn?' Barry wondered.
Currently his Pidgey only knew tackle, sand attack, gust and quick attack.
Only four moves!
"How about air slash?" Barry suggested.
Pidgey tilted her head in confusion.
'How will I explain this.' Barry sighed.
He showed Pidgey a battle clip where a swellow used Air slash.
"Would you like to learn this?" He asked her.
Pidgey chirped in agreement.
"Good, we'll start with the basics." Barry said before instructing her.
Air slash was a move that allowed the user to attack with a blade that slices even the sky, frankly speaking for Pidgey to learn this she had to focus on speed and strength.
After instructing her on the steps Barry sat in a cross-legged position before bringing out a piece of paper.
It was titled: Nidoran food recipes.
On the piece of paper the steps for making Nidoran's pokémon food, if he used the recipe there was a sure chance that Nidoran's growth would steadily progress.
Normal pokémon food tasted like styrofoam, bland and very tasteless.
But the different pokémon food recipes actually had taste!
He studied the recipe; learning the ingredients, when to put them, where they grew and the rest.
"At least, I'll be able to make it on the road." Barry said to himself after he finished studying it.
He spared a glance at Nidoran; the pokémon had been practicing double kick for the last fifty minutes. Signs of fatigue were evident but he just kept throwing himself back at the wall.
Barry had to admire Nidoran's determination.
"Nidoran!"
The pokémon stopped before it could use the other leg and looked in his direction.
"You should switch up, use fury attack next."
Nidoran seemingly nodded in agreement, he threw another kick at the steel wall before getting a breather. After some minutes Nidoran began charging normal type energy in its horn preparing horn attack.
Barry nodded before setting his eyes on Pidgey.
She was doing everything perfectly; at least to his understanding. So there was nothing to worry about.
…
"If you want to practice making pokémon food you could go to the kitchen, once you enter you'll meet the intern who will supervise you." Nurse Joy said with a smile.
"Intern, do you mean that man that delivered food yesterday?" Barry asked.
"Yes, it seems like you two have met."
Barry nervously nodded before excusing himself.
'He looked more like a zombie than an intern, no wonder male nurses are scarce.'
Barry arrived in the kitchen, as soon as he opened the door a wave of heat assaulted him.
"Is this an oven?" Barry wondered.
"What can I do for you?" The man asked trying to sound professional but his voice said it all, he needed sleep.
"I came here to make pokémon food."
"Is that so, are you going to borrow equip..." He stopped speaking abruptly as his eyelids dropped.
"Hello?"
"I'm awake!" He said quickly as his eyes opened.
"I have my own stuff."
"Good, when you've brought it out you'll tell me." He said before closing his eyes.
Barry went into his backpack and brought out the equipment, he tapped the man.
"You're done. Okay, that's good. I didn't expect you to be done so fast." The man said.
'He had a problem.'
"Well, I'm just going to make some pokémon food." Barry said.
"You need my help?"
Barry thought it over, how could a sleepy man help him, he would probably misdirect him.
"Nope." Barry said before getting to work.
"I see now. You are the messiah spoken about in the scriptures." The man said before falling onto the ground.
Barry tried tapping the man but to no avail, it seemed like he was knocked out instead of just falling asleep.
"So much for supervision." Barry muttered before getting to work.
For half an hour the continuous clangs of equipment were heard echoing from the kitchen.
