Chapter 12: Battles (2)
Leaf recalled Bulbasaur before walking off, she didn't show that much shock from her loss - unlike Gary who had been very dramatic. Ash ran towards Pikachu after Bulbasaur had been recalled, his concern was evident due to his pained expression.
"Pikachu, are you okay?" Ash said as he carried Pikachu in his hands.
The pokemon in question suffered from cuts on its body, bruises and scratches. Ash quickly took out a potion from his pocket and sprayed it on his injured electric mouse pokemon. The wounds healed at a visible rate but it didn't clear all of them.
"Pika-pikachu." Pikachu told his trainer reassuringly.
The injuries in question were what were expected in a fight against a grass type; they used long range attacks to attack their opponents while doing devastating damage, proof to why Ash couldn't beat Erika.
"I'm happy to see the result of the first match, it shows that all of you have tremendous talent and capability. Come over here to get your pokemon healed so we can begin the next match." Prof. Oak told them.
Some like Gary and Leaf did not believe the professor was really being serious, they believed their abilities shown were very next to average if not average.
After everyone had healed their pokemon they took a short break to make sure their pokemon had their mental rest, items and pokemon only restored the physical properties, but to make sure the mind of a pokemon was not haywire you had to allow real rest.
Barry was getting pumped up, he had not battled anyone since the last 15 minutes and watching people get into the feel of it was making him envy them for not having seeded matches. He wanted the experience from the battles even if he won or lost, the experience was a crucial part of his learning experience.
And he was not getting that because he was seeded.
He had trained his Nidoran for good six months and despised the fact that his training methods didn't seem to be very imaginative and seemed much (in-the-box) compared to people like blue and Ash. He knew Leaf; the person who had helped him with the basics of his training, had been like him – very in the box.
Ash had merged 3 attacks into one and thrown it at the poor girl, there was no way she would be able to cope with it.
Ash sat on the low grass on route 1, the rest decided to stand, he was the only person who was visibly exhausted out of all the battlers. It seemed his merge combo took a lot of his stamina out of his reserves.
'I remember that in pokemon if you truly had a bond with your pokemon you would feel some of the damage that they felt, another reason why Ash was always falling down after a tough battle when he used his Ash-Greninja mega evolution.'
The merger attack fused two moves together and although not creating a new one did a lot of damage when compared to using each of them individually as a combo. The thought of that scared Barry, but not as much as getting weaker after every region.
Pikachu layed snug on top of Ash's cap and was taking a little nap, he made sure not to disturb the pokemon.
Prof. Oak spoke up:
"Gary, Leaf and Clinton lost their matches so, I will announce the roster for the second match:
Red VS Blue
Ash VS Barry
You have 2 minutes to get prepared."
Professor Oak then sent out a rotom and it flew in the air, the time counting down from 2 minutes to 0.
Everyone began getting ready, this was not supposed to be easy: everyone knew that. Everyone had their own secret attacks that they wanted to keep a secret but had been revealed in the first match: Blue had his spinning tactic, Red had his fire spin for a measure against water type pokemon, Ash had his merge attack.
But all of them had been exposed in the first match and 6 months when squeezed with prof. Oak's teaching didn't squeeze much time in for creating a tactic more than once; and that was if you were lucky.
"Two minutes is up, both Red and Blue should come up to the battlefield." Professor Oak said.
Red didn't usually wear the classic Red jacket and blue jeans, he only wore that on special occasions, he said they were lucky so he would only wear them when he was facing a gym leader. But he and Blue planned to beat the competition and have their own match.
Barry thought that it would be embarrassing if Blue used his uniformed tactic the same way he used in the anime to fight against Red, it would be very embarrassing for Red to claw the way through their special tournament and then lose without even landing one hit against Blue and lose.
'That Squirtle had used such coordinated attacks that when Barry watched it he thought he had trained all his life to disgrace Red.'
Red and Blue stood against each other their determination to beat each other shown on both of their faces, they had always been rivals since they were five. This made them think that the first time in 10 years they could actually see…
Who is Inferior!
"Get ready cuz' I'm not gonna hold back!" Red shouted, "Go, Charmander!"
"And you thought I would, heh, go Squirtle!"
The two pokemon stood on the field, they were the royal starters of their respective region and their species always had a rivalry, Blue and Red's rivalry then strengthened everything.
This was the first of many clashes of the rivals.
"Charmander, use fire spin!"
"Squirtle, attack with bubble." Blue ordered calmly.
Squirtle shot out a long beam of large bubbles from its mouth as it aimed at taking out the mini-forest fire.
"Tackle."
Squirtle charged at Charmander as it ran through the fire and rammed into the fire pokemon.
"Ahh, scratch."
Charmander tried to scratch Squirtle with its large claws but Squirtle quickly retracted into its shell, it them burst open using an uncalled for headbutt knocking Charmander off its feet.
Squirtle jumped back and watched at the Charmander while mocking it in their language.
Charmander got up immediately, it's tail blazing.
"Charmander attack using metal claw." Red ordered.
Charmander's claw glowed in a metallic light as it shot forward, moving towards the Squirtle.
"Withdraw!" Blue shouted with urgency in his voice.
Squirtle retracted its body into the shell and once again hit the shell instead of the body.
"Charmander, ember."
'This is going to take awhile.' Barry thought.
In canon, Red was defeated pretty easily but now at least he was putting a little more oomph into his moves.
'It's disappointing that he's going to lose. I think they made it so that Red would lose every time except the last battle to be cinematic.'
Squirtle, water gun!" Blue ordered.
Squirtle released a torrent of water from its mouth aiming at Charmander, the fire pokemon couldn't react in time and got hit by it.
The pressure from the attack sending Charmander into a tree, the poor pokemon hit its back hard and Barry became worried that Charmander would be using crutches for sometime.
"Charmander!" Red yelled returning it to its pokemon.
Blue wins. No surprise there.
"Blue is the winner of this match!"
