Chapter 6: Chapter 6:Making a Splash at Cerulean Gym!
Ace walked into the Cerulean Gym just as the mermaid-themed show concluded. The faint scent of chlorine filled the air, and the sound of water splashing echoed through the corridor. As he walked further, he admired the aquatic-themed decor, complete with seashell motifs and water-type Pokémon murals.
Turning a corner, he bumped into three girls, their colorful swimsuits sparkling under the lights. He immediately recognized them as the Sensational Sisters, the gym leaders from the anime. However, to his surprise, Misty, the youngest sister, was with them.
'She hasn't left for her journey with Ash yet? Interesting,' Ace thought, quickly piecing together the differences in this timeline.
The sisters beamed at Ace, assuming he was there for something other than a battle.
"Oh my gosh, are you here for an autograph?" Violet asked, flipping her hair dramatically.
"You must've seen our show, huh? We were amazing today!" Lily added, striking a pose.
Ace raised his hands defensively, shaking his head. "Uh, no, I'm actually here to challenge the gym!"
The sisters blinked in surprise before bursting into laughter.
"Oh, wow, you're serious?" Daisy said, finally speaking up. "Well, I guess we can fit in a battle before heading to the salon for hair conditioning."
Ace sweatdropped, silently wondering how they could take their responsibilities as gym leaders so lightly.
Meanwhile, Misty rolled her eyes, clearly exasperated. "Why are my sisters like this?" she muttered under her breath.
Despite the awkward start, the sisters led Ace to the gym's battle arena. The moment Ace stepped inside, his eyes widened in awe.
The arena was a large swimming pool, with several floating platforms scattered across the water. The sight immediately brought back memories of watching Ash's battles in the anime. 'The same pool setup,' Ace thought. 'This is where Ash battled Misty. It feels surreal standing here now.'
"Okay, Daisy will battle you," Violet said as she and Lily headed toward the spectator benches.
"Try not to get too wet!" Lily teased as she sat down.
Daisy stretched her arms and smiled confidently at Ace. "Alright, challenger, let's see what you've got!"
Ace took a deep breath, feeling the excitement building. Smeargle stood by his side, ready and eager. "Let's do this!" he said, clenching his fist.
Misty crossed her arms as she watched from the sidelines, a thoughtful expression on her face. 'This guy seems serious. I wonder how strong he really is.'
Ace stepped onto the trainer's platform, the reflections of the water shimmering around him. The battle was about to begin.
Daisy smiled as she stepped onto her trainer's platform, her demeanor confident but casual. "Alright, challenger, this will be a three-versus-three battle," she announced. "You're allowed to switch your Pokémon whenever you like, but I won't be switching mine. The battle ends when one side loses all their Pokémon or admits defeat. Sound good?"
Ace nodded, his heart pounding with excitement. "Got it!"
"Alright then, let's begin!" Daisy said, throwing her first Pokéball. A flash of light revealed her first Pokémon: Staryu.
The star-shaped Pokémon twirled in place, its gem core glowing faintly.
Ace looked at Smeargle, who was already stepping forward onto one of the floating platforms, determined. "Smeargle, you're up!"
Smeargle barked in excitement and leapt onto the platform, steadying itself as the battle area rippled with small waves.
Misty, acting as referee, raised her hand. "Let the battle begin!"
"Smeargle, start with Charge!" Ace commanded immediately.
A golden lightning aura surrounded Smeargle as it focused, boosting its special defense.
"Staryu, use Minimize and then Rapid Spin!" Daisy countered with a grin.
Staryu's body seemed to shrink slightly, making it harder to hit, before it spun rapidly and darted toward Smeargle like a spinning top.
"Thunder Shock, now!" Ace shouted.
Electric sparks danced around Smeargle before exploding outward in a circle of lightning. The Rapid Spin collided with the Thunder Shock, and Staryu was hit head-on. The attack dealt massive damage due to Charge enhancing Thunder Shock for one turn, combined with Technician and the move's super-effective nature.
Staryu wobbled on its points, clearly struggling to stay in the fight.
"Staryu, dive underwater and use Recover!" Daisy said, her voice tinged with worry.
The water-type Pokémon quickly disappeared beneath the surface, leaving ripples in its wake.
Ace, however, didn't panic. Instead, he grinned. "Smeargle, use Sketch!"
Smeargle closed its eyes as a white aura surrounded its body. A moment later, the aura faded, and Smeargle gave a firm nod to Ace, signaling it had successfully copied Recover.
Daisy, regaining her composure, ordered, "Staryu, Swift into Psybeam!"
Staryu surfaced briefly, firing a barrage of glowing stars that homed in on Smeargle. Immediately after, it unleashed a purple Psybeam that tore through the air.
"Quick Attack to the next platform!" Ace yelled.
Smeargle blurred with speed, leaping to a nearby platform just as the Swift barrage hit the spot it had been standing on. The Psybeam followed immediately after, tearing the floating platform in half.
The stars, however, weren't done. They curved mid-air and continued their pursuit of Smeargle.
"Smeargle, counter it with your own Swift!" Ace instructed.
Smeargle spun and unleashed a flurry of stars, which collided with Staryu's Swift. The two attacks neutralized each other in mid-air, exploding into harmless sparks.
But Daisy wasn't done. "Staryu, now!"
Staryu burst out of the water, spinning at high speed, and struck Smeargle with another Rapid Spin. The attack sent Smeargle skidding across its platform.
"Counter, Smeargle!" Ace shouted quickly.
Smeargle pushed itself up, a brownish aura flaring around it. The energy rebounded off its body and struck Staryu, launching it backward into another platform with a loud crash.
Staryu struggled to rise, its gem flickering weakly.
"Staryu, back underwater! Recover!" Daisy cried.
But Ace wasn't about to let that happen. "Bullet Seed, Smeargle! Don't give it a chance!"
Smeargle barked in determination, opening its mouth and firing a rapid barrage of glowing seed projectiles. The first volley hit Staryu just as it tried to slip beneath the water, and the subsequent seeds knocked it back onto the platform, motionless.
Misty raised her hand. "Staryu is unable to battle! Smeargle wins!"
Ace pumped his fist in the air, cheering loudly. "Way to go, Smeargle! That was awesome!"
Smeargle wagged its tail, clearly pleased with itself as it hopped back to Ace's side for a moment of celebration.
Daisy returned Staryu to its Pokéball, giving Ace a faintly impressed look. "Not bad, kid," she said, though she quickly regained her confident smile. "But don't get too comfortable. We're just getting started!"
Ace grinned, ready for the next challenge. "Bring it on!"
Daisy smirked confidently as she tossed another Pokéball into the air. "Let's step it up, Poliwhirl, you're up!"
A Poliwhirl materialized, landing on one of the floating platforms with a splash. Its spiral-patterned belly gleamed, and it looked ready for battle.
Ace looked down at Smeargle, who was catching its breath but still looked determined. "You good to keep going, buddy?"
Smeargle barked, nodding as it stepped back onto its platform.
Misty raised her hand. "Round two—begin!"
"Poliwhirl, Water Gun!" Daisy called out.
Poliwhirl instantly fired a jet of water from its belly, the high-pressure stream hurtling toward Smeargle.
"Quick Attack to dodge, then use Charge!" Ace shouted.
Smeargle blurred to the side, narrowly dodging the Water Gun. As it landed, a golden lightning aura surrounded it, boosting its special defense once again.
Daisy wasn't about to let Smeargle set up. "Poliwhirl, Brick Break, now!"
Poliwhirl leapt toward Smeargle, its fist glowing with brownish energy.
"Smeargle, dodge it!" Ace called, but Poliwhirl was already closing in.
The glowing fist struck Smeargle square in the stomach, sending it skidding backward as it cried out in pain. The attack had been super effective.
"Smeargle, hang in there!" Ace encouraged, his voice firm but supportive. "Push it back with Gust!"
Smeargle wobbled back to its feet and summoned a gust of wind that whipped across the field. The force of the attack hurled Poliwhirl backward, forcing it to regain its footing.
Daisy grinned. "Poliwhirl, Rain Dance!"
Dark clouds quickly gathered above the battlefield, and rain began to pour down, soaking both Pokémon and trainers.
Ace clenched his fists. 'That's both good and bad—rain powers up water-type moves and electric type moves. I need to think fast.'
"Poliwhirl, Water Pulse!" Daisy ordered.
A swirling orb of water formed in front of Poliwhirl before it shot toward Smeargle.
"Charge Beam, Smeargle!" Ace countered.
Smeargle fired a concentrated beam of lightning, and the two attacks collided in the center of the field. The clash caused a loud explosion, sending both Smeargle and Poliwhirl sliding back.
"Poliwhirl, Hypnosis!" Daisy yelled, not wasting a moment.
Poliwhirl's spiral belly glowed as it released purple energy rings aimed directly at Smeargle.
"Quick, dive underwater!" Ace shouted.
Smeargle leapt into the pool just in time, the Hypnosis rings dissipating harmlessly against the surface.
"Now use Quick Attack into Sketch!" Ace commanded.
Smeargle shot out of the water in a blur, circling behind Poliwhirl as a white aura surrounded it. The glow faded as Smeargle completed the Sketch, and it immediately released its own Hypnosis attack.
Poliwhirl turned, but it was too slow. The pink energy rings from Smeargle's attack hit their mark, and Poliwhirl's eyes grew heavy before it slumped onto the platform, fast asleep.
"What? No!" Daisy cried, frustration clear in her voice.
Ace seized the moment. "Smeargle, finish it with Thunder Shock!"
Smeargle summoned its remaining strength and unleashed a powerful Thunder Shock. The lightning surged through the rain-soaked battlefield, striking Poliwhirl directly. With Technician boosting the move's power and the rain amplifying the damage, the attack was devastating.
Poliwhirl groaned before collapsing, still asleep.
Misty raised her hand. "Poliwhirl is unable to battle! Smeargle wins again!"
"Yes!" Ace pumped his fist in the air. "Great job, Smeargle!"
Smeargle panted heavily as it staggered back toward Ace, clearly exhausted.
Ace knelt down and scooped Smeargle into his arms. "You were amazing out there, buddy. You deserve a good rest now."
Smeargle gave a weak but proud bark before Ace returned it to its Pokéball, giving it a chance to recover.
Daisy recalled Poliwhirl, a hint of annoyance crossing her face. "Not bad, but don't get cocky just yet," she said, pulling out her third Pokéball. "I still have one more Pokémon, and I'm not going easy on you!"
Ace smiled confidently, gripping his next Pokéball. "Bring it on!"
Daisy smiled as she sent out her final Pokémon. "Seadra, you're up!"
A strong-looking Seadra appeared on the battlefield, its fins shimmering in the light, and it let out a confident cry.
Ace eyed the Seadra carefully, his excitement tempered by a hint of caution. 'This Seadra looks powerful... But we're not backing down!' He tossed his next Pokéball. "Elekid, let's do this!"
Elekid materialized onto the platform, flexing its small but powerful arms, ready for battle. Daisy's smile faltered slightly as she recognized the electric type. 'This might be tougher than I thought....'
Misty raised her hand. "Final round—begin!"
"Elekid, use Shock Wave!" Ace commanded immediately.
Electric energy surged around Elekid's plug-like horns before a wave of electricity shot forward toward Seadra.
"Twister, now!" Daisy countered.
Seadra unleashed a swirling vortex of blue dragonic energy that collided with the Shock Wave, overpowering it. The twister continued toward Elekid.
"Dodge with Quick Attack!" Ace called out.
Elekid blurred, narrowly avoiding the spinning tornado of energy as it zipped to a new platform.
"Seadra, Agility!" Daisy instructed.
Seadra disappeared in a blur of speed and reappeared right in front of Elekid.
Ace's eyes widened. 'It's so fast!' "Elekid, Thunder Shock, quickly!"
"Water Pulse!" Daisy countered.
Elekid released a bolt of electricity just as Seadra launched a swirling sphere of water. Both attacks connected, and the force of the collision sent Elekid flying backward. Seadra, though struck, held its ground.
Elekid struggled to its feet, determination in its eyes.
"Seadra, Dragon Breath!" Daisy shouted.
A fiery stream of dragonic energy began to form in Seadra's mouth.
"Quick Attack! Get in close!" Ace ordered.
Everyone, including Daisy and Misty, looked surprised at Ace's strategy.
"What is he doing?" Misty muttered.
Elekid, undeterred, dashed forward in a blur, closing the gap between it and Seadra just as the dragonic flames were about to be released.
"DYNAMIC PUNCH!" Ace roared.
Elekid's fist glowed with reddish energy as it leaped up and smashed Seadra right under its chin. The punch sent Seadra flying into the air, cutting off its Dragon Breath.
Daisy looked shocked as she scrambled for a command. "Seadra, recover with Twister!"
"Charge Beam!" Ace shouted without hesitation.
Electric energy gathered in Elekid's mouth before a concentrated beam of lightning shot out, hitting Seadra midair before it could create a twister. Seadra cried out in pain as the attack sent it crashing into a platform.
The lightning aura around Elekid intensified, signaling that its special attack had been boosted.
Daisy quickly called out, "Twister again!"
The swirling dragonic vortex began to form, but Ace wasn't giving it a chance. "Tear through it with Shock Wave!"
Elekid roared as it released another Shock Wave, this one boosted by the ongoing rain and its raised special attack. The lightning sliced through the Twister, shattering it.
"Finish it with Thunder Shock!" Ace yelled, pumping his fist forward.
Elekid unleashed a powerful burst of electricity that crackled through the rain-soaked air and struck Seadra directly. The lightning coursed through its body before it collapsed onto the platform, unable to battle.
"Seadra is unable to fight!" Misty declared. "The winner is Ace!"
Ace stood stunned for a moment before a wide grin spread across his face. "We did it, Elekid!"
Elekid swayed slightly before falling backward, panting heavily. Ace didn't think twice as he leaped into the battlefield, scooping up Elekid in his arms and spinning around.
"You were amazing out there!" Ace laughed, holding the exhausted but elated Pokémon close.
Elekid let out a happy cry before Ace returned it to its Pokéball. "You deserve a good rest, buddy."
Daisy and her sisters approached Ace, clapping lightly.
"Congratulations," Daisy said with a smile as she held out a shimmering badge shaped like a teardrop. "Here's the Cascade Badge. You earned it."
Ace took the badge, staring at it for a moment with a sense of pride before placing it into the badge case he had bought. "Thank you so much!"
Daisy handed him another item. "Take this too. It's TM Water Pulse. Consider it a bonus for such an impressive battle."
Ace's eyes lit up as he accepted the TM. "Thank you, Daisy! This will be super useful."
The sisters waved him off as Ace turned toward the exit. "Thanks again! Bye, Misty, Daisy, everyone!"
Misty smiled as she watched him leave. "He's got potential... but I'm glad I'm not the one cleaning up that battlefield."
Ace walked toward the Pokémon Center, his heart full of joy and his mind buzzing with thoughts of the journey ahead. 'One badge down, seven more to go!'
