Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The Battle Against the Beedrill Leader
When the three Beedrill stopped, Machop, who was in charge of the assault, rushed forward. However, it was Meowth, assigned to control and scout the surroundings, who first noticed that the Beedrill in front had halted.
With no time to warn Machop, Meowth dashed out from its hiding place and used Hypnosis, managing to influence one Beedrill just enough to prevent it from immediately sounding the alarm.
The delay of just one or two seconds was enough for Machop to take down the last three Beedrill while also sensing the anomaly ahead.
Days of teamwork during frequent attacks allowed Machop to react quickly, charging forward to try and take down the Beedrill in front.
Hypnosis had worn off, and Machop's Leer followed suit, preventing the Beedrill from sounding the alarm.
In just a few seconds, the remaining Beedrill had flown far away, making it difficult for them to notice what was happening behind them.
Taking advantage of this, Meowth launched a surprise attack with a Scratch, combining it with a Bite. Leaping into the air like a tiger, Meowth brought the Beedrill down from the sky.
In the plan to attack the Beedrill swarm, most of the Beedrill had been dealt with by Machop, which left Meowth at only level 15. Even with the combination of two moves, Meowth couldn't defeat the Beedrill.
Before the Beedrill had a chance to struggle, Machop dashed forward, engaging in close combat to finish the battle.
With the Beedrill dealt with, both Machop and Meowth exhaled in relief, but there was no time to rest.
After catching their breath, they charged forward again, determined to take out more Beedrill along the way.
Using their knowledge of blind spots, they repeatedly employed a strategy of first using Hypnosis to control, then attacking. One Beedrill after another fell along their path.
Normally, the Beedrill, known for their teamwork, wouldn't be so careless and would have noticed the attack right away.
However, the combination of hunger and anger had dulled their senses, which gave Ron and his Pokémon the opening they needed.
Or perhaps, Ron's plan from the beginning was designed to exploit this very opening.
Bursting out of the forest, the Beedrill leader saw the clear blue lake, with wild Pokémon drinking from it.
Having lived in the forest for so long, the Beedrill leader knew this was the shared water source for many Pokémon, and the scent of honey was no longer around.
Fortunately, from what the Weedle and Kakuna had shared, the Beedrill leader knew the culprits were a human and his Machop and Meowth, which prevented an immediate attack on the Pokémon at the water's edge.
Warily eyeing the wild Pokémon near the lake, the Beedrill leader kept a close watch on any that left the water while waiting for the rest of the Beedrill to arrive and begin searching.
The wild Pokémon near the water were curious about the Beedrill leader's anger but lacked the courage to approach and ask. After drinking, they quickly left.
After about two or three minutes, the Beedrill leader began to feel something was wrong.
Even though some of the Beedrill were slower, they should not have been this delayed in catching up.
When the Beedrill leader turned to check, Hypnosis hit, causing a brief moment of disorientation.
The level difference came into play. The Beedrill leader woke up in just two seconds, but for Machop, that was enough.
Leaping out of the bushes, Machop charged forward with a close-combat attack.
As the Beedrill leader regained its senses, it saw Machop right in front of it.
In an instant, the Beedrill leader realized that this was one of the ones responsible for attacking its swarm.
Before it could react, Machop's close-combat strike landed, knocking the Beedrill leader down with tremendous force.
Thanks to previous battles with many Beedrill, Machop had gained experience and reached level 21, just two levels away from the Beedrill leader.
With Machop's innate strength, the Beedrill leader could not block the attack without using any skills.
As it hit the ground, Machop immediately charged again, but the Beedrill leader reacted faster.
Using Toxic Spikes to disrupt Machop's momentum, the Beedrill leader quickly soared into the air, distancing itself.
At that moment, the Beedrill leader still didn't realize that its swarm had already been defeated.
Fueled by intense rage, it fired multiple Toxic Spikes in a triangular formation toward Machop.
With a quick movement, Machop dodged the attack and leaped back into the air.
Before the Beedrill leader could capitalize on this opportunity to strike, another Hypnosis took effect, interrupting its next move.
Although the Beedrill leader's awakening speed was fast enough, it couldn't defend in time and was once again knocked down by Machop's close-combat strike.
During the fall, the Beedrill leader quickly used Toxic Spikes to force Machop to retreat.
Having been knocked down twice using the same tactic, the Beedrill leader retreated from the bushes to avoid further interference from Hypnosis.
Seeing this, Meowth no longer hid. It emerged from its cover, standing guard behind Machop.
In the bushes, Ron carefully watched the battlefield.
If the Beedrill leader used its aerial advantage to engage in a prolonged fight, Machop and Meowth would alternate, taking turns to recover while continuing the assault.
At the same time, Ron reaffirmed his resolve to become stronger. Otherwise, with no Pokémon to fight on his behalf, the helpless feeling of having to hide from every opponent was unbearable.
Exchanging a glance, Machop and Meowth charged together, one to the left and one to the right.
Judging quickly, the Beedrill leader decided to focus on eliminating the weaker Meowth first to prevent it from using Hypnosis to disrupt its plans.
With this decision made, the Beedrill leader launched another three consecutive Toxic Spikes at Machop.
Then, moving at lightning speed, it rushed forward and used Toxic Sting and Twin Needle to block Meowth's movements while preparing for a decisive strike.
As Hypnosis took effect and created an opening, Meowth swiftly dodged the Toxic Sting and leaped up to use Iron Tail on the Beedrill leader.
On the other side, Machop exploded into action, avoiding the Toxic Spikes and charging straight for the Beedrill leader.
The collision of Iron Tail and Twin Needle resulted in a standoff. Despite Iron Tail's superior power, it wasn't enough to break through.
As Meowth was knocked down, the Beedrill leader followed up with Bug Bite, aiming straight for Meowth's throat.
In midair, Meowth couldn't avoid the attack, but it twisted its body just enough to avoid a fatal blow.
Blood splattered as the Beedrill leader's Bug Bite struck Meowth on its left front leg.
