Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Unreal Psychic Powers
The soft hum of Alakazam's spoons echoed through the dimly lit study as Ben watched the Psychic Pokémon with rapt attention. His brow was furrowed, a mix of pride and concern etched on his face.
"So, you're saying Gladion's Psychic abilities are... extraordinary?" he asked, his voice tinged with a hint of disbelief.
Alakazam nodded solemnly, the gem-like eyes gleaming with an ancient wisdom. "Indeed, Benjamin. Your son's Psychic prowess is highly unusual, especially for one so young."
Ben leaned back in his chair, processing the information. "Telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, extrasensory perception... You're telling me he's mastering these abilities faster than most seasoned Psychic-type Pokemon?"
"That is correct," Alakazam replied, its deep voice reverberating through the room. "I have been monitoring Gladion's progress, and his ability to grasp and utilize Psychic powers is truly remarkable. His potential is immense."
Ben ran a hand through his hair, a weary sigh escaping his lips. "I knew he was talented, but this... This is beyond anything I could have imagined."
Erza, who had been silently observing the exchange, stepped forward. "Is this truly so unusual, Alakazam? Surely there must be other young Psychic prodigies out there."
The Pokémon turned its gaze to Erza, its expression grave. "There are rare cases of individuals displaying such innate Psychic abilities like the Saffron City Gym Leader's daughter, but they are few and far between. Most Psychics require years of arduous training to reach Gladion's level of mastery. And this when he is just 9 years old. Imagine his power when he grows up. Heck, even some Pokemon struggle to reach this level of power."
Ben's eyes narrowed, a hint of worry in his voice. "So, what does this mean for Gladion's future? Is he in any danger?"
Alakazam shook its head slowly. "Not necessarily, Benjamin. Gladion's power is a gift, but it also comes with great responsibility. He must learn to control and channel his abilities, lest they overwhelm him."
Erza placed a reassuring hand on Ben's shoulder. "Then that is where we come in. We will ensure Gladion receives the guidance and support he needs to harness his Psychic prowess safely."
Ben nodded, a weary smile tugging at his lips. "You're right, Erza. Gladion is not alone in this. As his parents, it's our duty to help him navigate these uncharted waters."
Alakazam inclined its head in acknowledgment. "I am pleased to hear your resolve, Benjamin, Erza. Gladion will need your unwavering support in the challenges that lie ahead."
The study fell silent for a moment, the weight of the conversation hanging in the air. Ben's gaze drifted to the framed photograph on the nearby shelf, a warm smile spreading across his face as he regarded the image of his family. Both him and Erza were smiling as Maren held the two kids in his arms. Gwen had her tongue to tease Gladion while the boy has an irritated look.
"There's something else, isn't there?" Ben suddenly said, turning his attention back to Alakazam. "Something you haven't mentioned yet."
The Psychic Pokémon regarded him steadily. "You are perceptive, Benjamin. Yes, there is one more matter I wished to discuss with you."
Erza and Ben leaned forward, their curiosity piqued.
"It involves Gladion's remarkable insight into the evolution of Feebas," Alakazam continued, its voice tinged with a hint of wonder. "His ability to not only identify the Prism Scale as the key to Feebas' transformation, but also to nurture and guide the Pokémon's development to evolve, is truly astounding."
Ben's eyes widened, and he exchanged a glance with Erza. "You mean to say that Gladion was able to solve a mystery that has eluded even the most renowned Pokémon researchers with the help of his Psychic powers?"
Alakazam nodded solemnly and spoke in both their minds "Indeed. His Psychic powers seem to have enhanced his cognitive abilities, allowing him to make connections and draw conclusions that would be beyond the reach of most individuals. Strong Human Psychics are known to be able to see the future. Maybe Gladion had seen something similar and thought it as a dream and then tried it in real life to see if what he saw in his 'dream' was true or not. I am not sure as I am only speculating based on my knowledge."
Erza's brow furrowed, a thoughtful expression on her face. "But how is that possible? Miltoic has been a subject of intense study for decades, and yet Gladion, a child, was able to crack the code by just seeing some dream?"
Alakazam's gaze shifted between the two parents, its voice measured and deliberate. "It is a testament to the remarkable nature of Gladion's Psychic abilities. His mind operates on a level that transcends the limitations of conventional wisdom and research."
Ben leaned back in his chair, a mixture of pride and concern evident on his features. "This is... unprecedented. What does this mean for Gladion's future? How can we ensure he uses his gifts responsibly?"
Erza placed a reassuring hand on Ben's arm, her expression calm and resolute. "We will guide him, Ben. Gladion may be extraordinary, but he is still our son. We will not let his powers consume him."
Alakazam nodded in agreement. "Your words are wise, Erza. With your love and guidance, Gladion can learn to harness his abilities for the greater good. But you must be vigilant, for the path ahead will be challenging."
The study was once again filled with the pensive silence, the weight of the responsibility before them palpable in the air.
Suddenly, the door burst open, and Gwen came rushing in, her face flushed with excitement.
"Mom! Dad! the egg is hatching!" she exclaimed, her eyes shining with anticipation.
Erza and Ben exchanged a quick glance, the conversation with Alakazam momentarily forgotten. They followed Gwen back to the living room, where Gladion was kneeling beside the vibrating Poké Ball, his expression a mix of wonder and trepidation.
As the egg began to crack, a bright light spilled forth, and a small, agile Pokémon emerged, its long tail swishing back and forth with unbridled energy.
"An Aipom!" Gwen gasped, her eyes widening in delight. She rushed to the newly hatched Pokémon, her laughter filling the room as the Aipom playfully swung from her outstretched hand.
The mischievous Pokémon seemed instantly drawn to Gwen, its long tail swinging back and forth in delight.
Gwen cooed and giggled as the Aipom climbed up her arm, perching on her shoulder and nuzzling against her cheek. "Oh, you are just the cutest thing! I'm so glad you hatched from my egg, little guy."
Gladion watched the scene with a fond smile, his fingers gently stroking the soft fur of the Aipom whenever it ventured close. "Looks like you've found your next partner, Gwen. Aipom seems to really like you."
Ben and Erza introduced themselves to Aipom while Ben checked it's health.
Alakazam observed the scene with a thoughtful expression, its gaze lingering on Gladion. The Psychic Pokémon harbored a suspicion, a inkling that the boy's extraordinary abilities were somehow tied to a greater, unseen force.
'One of the Legendary Pokemon perhaps. But which one?' Alakazam mused
But for now, Alakazam remained silent, unwilling to burden the Vortex family with further concerns. The time would come when the truth would need to be revealed, but until then, the Psychic Pokémon would continue to watch over Gladion, ready to offer guidance and support whenever it was needed.
