Although he was eager to understand, it was not to the extent of disregarding Ash's physical condition. Currently, this power was also a burden to Ash.
It was still unclear whether this power was a blessing or a curse. If the burden proved irreversible, no matter how interested or strong this power seemed, it would dissuade Ash from continuing to use it.
"How about it, Professor? Because I don't know the conditions needed to enter the Condition."
"Next time, if there's another battle, I'll ask my companions to record the situation and send it to you later!" Ash said. He was unsure if the failure of his recent attempt was due to his body not having fully recovered.
Or perhaps he hadn't mastered the power yet, and only unintentionally triggered the Condition during a critical moment in battle.
Without knowing when the next incident might occur, Ash had no way to contact Professor Sycamore directly. He could only rely on Brock or Misty to help record the situation if something similar happened in the future.
"That's a good idea! If a similar situation arises, you can contact me anytime!"
"But Ash, I must remind you—although I'm very interested in this and it might be a powerful force, if you find it affecting your body, I hope you'll stop using it immediately. This isn't the only path available to you."
Professor Sycamore's voice carried sincere concern. Although they had only spoken twice, both times by phone, Sycamore felt a surprising connection with Ash. He didn't want Ash to jeopardize his health.
"I understand. Thank you, Professor!" Ash responded gratefully.
"You're welcome. For now, I'll keep searching for relevant information, and I'll notify you if I find anything useful." Professor Sycamore waved generously, dismissing Ash's thanks.
"Okay!" Ash nodded. After saying goodbye, they ended the call.
"Ash, who is this Professor? What's all this about MEGA Evolution?" Misty asked curiously once Ash hung up.
They had never met the Professor Ash had spoken with, but from their conversation, it was clear he was someone as authoritative as Professor Oak. Additionally, a new term, MEGA Evolution, had caught their attention. It was the first time they'd heard of it.
"That was Professor Sycamore. He's based in the distant Kalos Region and is an expert on Pokémon evolution," Ash explained. "Many years ago, a strange gemstone was discovered in Kalos. It can resonate with the bond between humans and Pokémon."
"It allows Pokémon that have already reached their final stage of evolution to evolve even further. After the battle, they revert back to their original forms, but during the fight, they become incredibly powerful."
Hearing this, Misty and Brock were both amazed. It was their first time encountering the concept of MEGA Evolution. They hadn't imagined such phenomena existed in another region.
"Evolve and then revert back? Isn't that kind of like what happened with you and Pikachu yesterday?" Brock asked, recalling the events from the day before. It made sense why Ash wanted to consult Professor Sycamore.
"Yes, but it's different. MEGA Evolution requires the Pokémon to hold a MEGA Stone and the Trainer to carry a Key Stone. The bond between the two also needs to be very deep. Only when all these conditions are met can MEGA Evolution happen."
"I don't have a MEGA Stone or a Key Stone, and there's another limitation—all the Pokémon that can undergo MEGA Evolution so far must already have reached their final evolution stage."
"But Pikachu didn't..."
Ash turned to look at Pikachu thoughtfully. Having crossed into this world before the XY series aired in his previous life, he wasn't sure if there were other Pokémon in the XY series that hadn't fully evolved yet could still MEGA evolve.
However, based on the Pokémon featured in promotional materials, it seemed that all of them had already evolved to their final forms. The most iconic examples were the three first-generation starter Pokémon.
"That makes sense! So it's impossible to be certain," Brock said, understanding Ash and Professor Sycamore's dilemma.
"Yeah! Since I don't know what conditions triggered yesterday's event, Brock, if it happens again, I'll need your help to record it for me," Ash said earnestly.
Because he had no idea when it might happen again, Ash realized that during battles, his focus would be entirely on the fight itself. There wouldn't be time to coordinate anything, so he asked Brock in advance.
"Got it, I'll remember!" Brock nodded seriously.
Despite his occasional unreliability around beautiful women, Brock was dependable when it came to important matters.
Later, Ash reached out to Professor Oak to explain everything to him. Professor Oak was also intrigued.
Although MEGA Evolution wasn't a field Oak was deeply familiar with, his scientific curiosity meant he was still eager to learn more about it.
Ash also mentioned Pikachu's new move, Zippy Zap, and asked Oak to help register it. Upon hearing about the move, Professor Oak chuckled. First Splishy Splash, now Zippy Zap—it seemed Pikachu had a knack for creating moves that could form a unique series.
To Oak, it was another sign of Ash's potential as a Trainer. Not only did Ash possess a mysterious, unexplainable power, but he also seemed capable of developing entirely new techniques. In Oak's view, Ash might someday pioneer a new style of Pokémon battling.
Professor Oak readily agreed to register the move and asked more about Pikachu's transformation yesterday. It was clear he was fascinated by the phenomenon.
Before they ended the call, Oak, like Professor Sycamore, reminded Ash not to rely too much on this unknown power. The potential risks to Ash's health were still uncertain, and both Professors wanted him to prioritize his well-being.
Ash didn't find their concern bothersome. He knew they cared about him deeply and had helped him without hesitation countless times. Though they weren't related by blood, Ash regarded them as family—different, yet just as cherished as elders in his life.
