Chapter 72 Su Han (Part One)
Zheng Xiaoguang was lost in thought, “When did I meet Su Han?”
Three years ago, when Zheng Xiaoguang had just started playing online games, she had not known much about these games and randomly chosen an online game called “Flying Deity”.
In this game, her character was also a doctor. One day when she was working on some of her professional tasks, she happened to save a player whose ID was Blooming Pear Tree. Because of this, Blooming Pear Tree became her big brother and pulled her into his gang where she met Su Han.
Su Han treated her well. He chatted with her and helped her completing missions and unlocking equipment every day. Zheng Xiaoguang enjoyed this relationship and thought that having him by her side for such a long period of time, she met love. It was plain but warm. Hence, when Su Han confessed to her and asked her to be his girlfriend, she did not refuse.
Zheng Xiaoguang could be very persistent when she really wanted something. After accepting Su Han’s love, she was devoted to this relationship wholeheartedly. Even when some young men in real life showed affection to her, she would pretend not to notice it or refused them directly.
Their long-distance relationship lasted for two years. It was hard to maintain such a relationship, but she never thought of giving up. She held an umbrella for herself when it rained. She hung out with her friends when she wanted to have some fun. Su Han could not stay by her side all the time, but she never complained. She even felt much in love.
Zheng Xiaoguang often thought, “If love is just about a romantic feeling between two people, the chemistry between Su Han and I would’ve never gone.”
Unfortunately, the wonderful love had to face reality someday. Every relationship was not just about two people, especially when these two people wanted to get married. About two years ago, Zheng Xiaoguang and Su Han had once planned to get married.
Marriage involved two families instead of two people. Their parents were conservative and strongly against virtual relationships. They were worried that online game players were not decent people. They just could not trust these people who they had never met in real life and might even live far away from them. When they decided to tell their parents about their plan to get married, Su Han repeatedly told Zheng Xiaoguang that his parents might not like her.
Zheng Xiaoguang understood it, as her parents had similar worries. She believed that as long as she and Su Han were determined to be together, they would overcome all difficulties, and their parents would eventually give in for the sake of their happiness.
Zheng Xiaoguang’s parents did not like Su Han in the beginning, but gradually they accepted him because of the persistence of their daughter. They even agreed to meet him.
Su Han was a typical southerner. He was light-skinned and about 178 centimeters tall. He wore a pair of framed glasses and looked somewhat bookish. He was not exceptionally handsome but looked nice and well-educated. No one would consider such a guy a bad person upon meeting him. After seeing that he was honest and well-behaved, Zheng Xiaoguang’s parents did not protest against the decision to get married anymore.
One day, Zheng Xiangguang’s mother told her. “Your father and I just want you to be happy. If you’re determined to marry him, we won’t stop you. We just hope that you can think everything over and won’t regret your choice.”
Since that day, Zheng Xiaoguang’ parents had begun to treat Su Han as their future son-in-law. Every time Su Han came to R City, they always received him warmly.
Her father, who had strongly protested their relationship before, even took out his long-cherished jar of “Nv’er Hong” and gave it to Su Han. This kind of liquor had the same meaning as the ancient “Nv’er Hong”. Her father had stored it since she was born, which meant that the liquor was as old as Zheng Xiaoguang. (Nv’er Hong is a part of a tradition in China. In ancient China, when a family gave birth to a daughter, they would store jars of best-quality liquor in the cellar or other grounded places from the day of her birth until she got married. This kind of liquor is called Nv’ er Hong and often used to entertain guests at the wedding banquet.)
Zheng Xiaoguang said smilingly to Su Han, “I worked really hard to make my parents agree with our decision to get married. Now they really treat you like their future son-in-law. I hope that you won’t let me down.”
Su Han promised her readily and held her hands with a smile.
Zheng Xiaoguang’s mother still felt somewhat uneasy and asked Su Han, “What if your parents don’t agree? What if they don’t like Xiaoguang? As you’ve been together for some time, you probably know that she’s quite stubborn sometimes.”
She just wanted a promise from him like the other parents did. Normally, parents would tell the future son-in-law about their daughter’s shortcomings and hope to hear this young man say that he would adore her daughter with more patience in the future.
Zheng Xiaoguang remembered it very clearly. At that time, Su Han replied, “My love for Xiaoguang will remain unchanged.”
Zheng Xiaoguang was moved and always remembered what he had said on that day.
Afterwards, she ingratiated herself with Su Han’s parents. But unfortunately, she got repeatedly turned down by them.
On the day that she was originally scheduled to meet his parents for the first time, she packed the presents she had prepared for them and bought a long-distance coach ticket. When she was about to ask Su Han what else she needed to bring, Su Han called her. “My parents said that you’d better come to visit us after the spring festival. The coaches are crowded recently as the festival is coming.”
She was displeased as she had prepared for a whole month. Despite that, she did not complain. She sent the presents she had prepared to Su Han’s home to show her respect for his parents.
After the spring festival, when she went to visit his family in S City, she was surprised that his parents had gone on a trip and were not in the city. She guessed that they were deliberately avoiding her. She discussed this with Su Han for two days but failed to get any definite answer.
Su Han just comforted her by saying, “That’s alright. You’ll meet them next time.”
“What if your parents keep avoiding me and disapproving of me?” asked Zheng Xiaoguang.
She wanted him to give her some confidence, but he just remained silent for a long time before saying, “If so, I’ll persuade them not to do so.”
“What if you can’t convince them?” Zheng Xiaoguang pushed further.
After some thought, Su Han said to Zheng Xiaoguang, “Most parents in this place are conservative. My cousin found a girlfriend by himself and wanted to get married. His parents could not accept her, and his mother even got excessively emotional. In the end, he had no choice but to break up with his girlfriend. My parents are more open-minded than them. At least, they haven’t shown such fierce opposition to our relationship.”
Although he did not give her a definite answer, he implied that they still had hope.
She looked at Su Han and decided to stop pushing him. “So how’s your cousin now?” asked she.
“He’s fine. I think. He went on a blind date arranged by his parents and found another girlfriend. They’re going to get married,” Su Han smiled gently and said. “His future wife is a very nice girl. Everyone in our family likes her.”
“Everyone in our family likes her.” Zheng Xiaoguang tossed this sentence around in her head while looking at Su Han’s relieved smile. She sighed softly and said, “Your cousin is really blessed.”
In the meantime, she could not help but wonder, “But what about his ex-girlfriend? How is she now? Does she still feel hurt because of this thing?”
