Please Don’t Give Up On Treatment

Chapter 17

Yu Tian had accepted the five thousand yuan from Yan Ming, feeling a surge of unease within her.

Fortunately, Qi Sihao had officially joined Yan Ming’s department at the Affiliated First Hospital, and by sheer coincidence, he’d been assigned to the ophthalmology rotation, returning with valuable information.

“Although we’re just rotating and not doing any specialized work, every day we’re busy with patients for refractions, vision tests, and eye pressure measurements—I’m often so swamped that I can barely take a lunch break until after one!”

Qi Sihao gazed off into the distance, feeling both envious and sympathetic. “But compared to doctors like Yan Ming, I have it much easier. Sometimes, he doesn’t even get to eat until two. He’s incredibly meticulous with his patients, and he always succumbs to the requests of distant patients, often squeezing in extra appointments. By the time he finishes seeing patients, he hasn’t even had a chance to eat, and sometimes he’s right back in for afternoon surgeries.”

Yu Tian’s heart raced at the thought. “Can’t he order takeout?”

“When he’s seeing patients, he doesn’t even have time to pull out his phone to order food. And even if he did have a moment, he wouldn’t have time to pick it up.”

While Qi Sihao admired Yan Ming, he didn’t hold back from throwing jabs at his rival. “It’s too bad your brother isn’t more aware of the romantic possibilities. Another male doctor in the same department has a girlfriend who brings him lunch every day, getting creative with stomach-friendly meals to keep him healthy and plump…”

Qi Sihao’s remarks struck a chord with Yu Tian. Having accepted five thousand from Yan Ming and remembering the favor he’d done tying her shoelaces along with her mother’s ongoing suitor relationship with his father, she had been searching for a way to express her gratitude. Now, Qi Sihao’s words sparked a clear direction.

Given that she was currently showcasing dietary recipes through live streams and looking to rehabilitate her injured hand, why not create several episodes on stomach-friendly recipes to stream while Yan Ming was busy with patients? After cooking, she could take the dishes directly to him!

Yu Tian, a person of action, wasted no time.

Today, Yan Ming was on duty.

She prepared congee and a few home-cooked dishes, packed them along with a freshly made cheesecake, and hurried to the Affiliated First Hospital.

On the way, she messaged Yan Ming.

However, upon arriving at the hospital, she received a delayed yet polite reply—

“No need, just eat on your own. I’m in a meeting and can’t step out. I appreciate your kindness; please don’t go to such trouble next time.”

That wouldn’t do!

She had come all this way to flatter Yan Ming!

“It’s fine! Brother Yan Ming, I made your favorite cheesecake, and it’s the only one I made, especially for you. I’m free this afternoon, so I’ll wait for you on the first floor for half an hour. If your meeting takes longer, I can leave then.”

Yan Ming’s refusal was firm: “No, you should go. My meeting will take at least an hour; I appreciate your kindness. Thank you.”

Yu Tian stared at Yan Ming’s cool response, feeling perplexed.

It seemed today wasn’t the day to deliver this meal after all.

Still, it wasn’t entirely pointless—at least her intentions had been conveyed.

As she reflected on the “thank you,” she felt she’d managed to score some goodwill points in Yan Ming’s eyes.

Then, she glanced at the food containers in her hand.

With her right hand’s lack of dexterity, it had taken her a long time to prepare these dishes. Since she was already at the hospital, even if Yan Ming wouldn’t accept it, she couldn’t waste the food…

As luck would have it, just as Yan Ming finished reading Yu Tian’s message, the vice president of the hospital suddenly rescheduled his agenda, allowing the meeting to conclude five minutes early.

Checking the time, Yan Ming ultimately decided to head downstairs to collect the food Yu Tian had prepared for him, intending to let her know this wouldn’t be a recurring occurrence.

After all, he wasn’t a child in need of playmates; he had no intention of developing any overly deep feelings with his potential stepsister.

Logically, it would be best to avoid excessive entanglements with Yu Tian.

However, she mentioned she would wait for him an hour longer.

Yan Ming, being a kind person, couldn’t bear to let food go to waste or someone’s time be wasted.

But as he made his way down, the entire lobby was devoid of Yu Tian’s figure.

Didn’t she say she’d wait for him on the first floor?

With a stony expression, he spun around, finally spotting Yu Tian in the small hospital garden on the first floor.

He adjusted his expression, preparing to act as if he had encountered her by chance after the meeting ended early.

From his position, Yan Ming was still a bit distant, and Yu Tian was facing away from him, sitting on a wooden bench with what appeared to be a patient beside her—someone conveniently obstructed by a tree. On the other side of Yu Tian, however, several layers of food containers lay piled up.

The height of these containers made Yan Ming feel that perhaps coming here had been worthwhile; Yu Tian had indeed put thought into this for him.

A slight smile broke across Yan Ming’s face.

Yet as he moved closer, he realized the person sitting next to Yu Tian wasn’t a patient at all— it was Qi Sihao.

The two of them were chatting animatedly.

When Yu Tian opened one of the tall food containers and handed a layer to Qi Sihao, Yan Ming’s frown deepened.

Wasn’t this food meant for him?

The frown deepened as he approached, finally catching snippets of their conversation.

“Look how well I treat you! You’ve just started your rotation here at the Affiliated First Hospital, and I’m already bringing you meals.”

Qi Sihao, with a mouthful of food, expressed gratitude. “Little Fish, you’re truly amazing! Is this something just for me? Did you send any to your brother Yan Ming?”

Yu Tian’s voice was heartfelt. “Qi Sihao, how could Yan Ming compare to you? You’ve been my friend for over twenty years, and you mean something completely different to me! This meal is unique to you; Yan Ming hasn’t received a portion at all!”

“But isn’t Yan Ming your idol?”

“He is indeed an idol, but idols can’t compare to real-life friends!”

With emotion pouring from her words, Yu Tian continued, “I’m nice to Yan Ming mainly because he and my mother are going on dates, and his father values his opinions on remarriage. I want my mom to have a happy life. But I’ve known you for over a decade, so my feelings toward you are different; it’s genuine!”

The smile on Yan Ming’s face began to fade.

It seemed Yu Tian had an excellent plan.

The food containers had served their purpose to impress him first but were now being used to woo Qi Sihao.

Everything was falling perfectly into place.

Given Qi Sihao’s appetite, he was thoroughly enchanted by Yu Tian’s homemade meals, his eyes glistening with gratitude as he ate.

Seizing the opportunity, Yu Tian pressed on. “Friendship means looking out for one another. While you’re on your rotation, I’ll bring you food; in return, since I’m starting a health-focused media venture, isn’t it only fair you come on camera to support your friend too?”

Without suspicion, Qi Sihao enthusiastically nodded. “Sure! I’ll get on camera for you five times!”

Five times?!

Just as Yu Tian was about to revel in her success, a familiar, cold voice broke through from behind.

“Yu Tian.”

Was that Yan Ming’s voice?!

But wasn’t he in a meeting?

No way…

Yu Tian’s body froze for a few seconds before she stiffly turned around.

There, standing right behind her, was indeed Yan Ming.

“Yan Ming, Brother Yan Ming…”

Yan Ming regarded her coolly before speaking evenly, “I figured you might be waiting here with food specifically made for me for an hour, so I couldn’t let that go to waste, especially since the meeting concluded earlier than expected.”

He enunciated clearly, “So, what about the food you prepared for me, Yu Tian?”

“…”

Instinctively, Yu Tian moved to shield the food containers beside her.

Thankfully, Qi Sihao, completely engrossed in his meal, was oblivious to the turmoil unfolding around him.

Yu Tian rushed forward, excitedly confronting Yan Ming. “You mentioned that your meeting wouldn’t end, so…I happened to see a malnourished homeless person on my way out of the hospital. I thought it would be good karma to donate the meal I made for you to someone in need…”

At this point, there was no way for Yu Tian to whip up another meal.

She had to bluff her way through.

Just then, Qi Sihao turned as if sensing something, suddenly calling out to Yu Tian’s back, “Little Fish, this food you made is absolutely delicious! Can I order something next time? Maybe you can whip up sweet and sour pork or yellow braised chicken tomorrow?”

As Qi Sihao looked up, he finally noticed Yan Ming and waved enthusiastically, appearing quite smug. “Senior Yan Ming, what a coincidence! Yu Tian brought me food; her cooking skills are incredible!”

“…” Oh, please, Qi Sihao!

Yu Tian wished she could have silenced him with a magic spell on the spot.

Yan Ming glanced at Qi Sihao, who was relishing his food, and then turned his unemotional gaze back to Yu Tian.

“The ‘homeless person’ you mentioned doesn’t seem emaciated at all; he’s quite well-built.”

Yu Tian felt suddenly tongue-tied, unable to maintain eye contact with Yan Ming.

Yet she still attempted to salvage the situation, stammering, “Qi Sihao might be physically fit but lacks intelligence; there’s a new kind of homeless person in modern society—like him, a spiritually destitute individual…”

Feeling the pressure of her unexpected failure, Yu Tian stuttered, “Brother Yan Ming, if you’re not in for surgery this afternoon, I’d like to treat you to a meal. Honestly, my cooking isn’t that special and definitely can’t rival the dishes from fancy restaurants… I want to give you a meal I cooked myself, but it hardly qualifies for someone of your stature; I should be serving Michelin-starred cuisine at the very least…”

Unfortunately, Yan Ming declined her invitation.

“No thanks.” He shot a glance at Yu Tian. “You’d be better off enjoying the meal with your sincere friend. After all, no one can compare to the value of a true friend. Genuine friends are for a lifetime, considering the bond you’ve shared for over a decade.”

“…”

“There’s no need to prepare or deliver food to me next time. I do appreciate your intention to do good, so it would be better to just donate that food to your friend.” Yan Ming’s tone was cold. “Besides, your friend Qi Sihao works in my department; getting him well-fed will allow him to work harder and handle more night shifts.”

“…” Yu Tian felt anxious, “Won’t that be inappropriate?”

“How so?” Yan Ming smiled slightly. “Didn’t you say he’s fit but lacking in intellect? Well, learning at the hospital will help him grow and develop; a strong body can endure night shifts, and an empty mind can be filled with medical knowledge through practice. It’s perfect.”

After finishing, Yan Ming turned and walked away, leaving Yu Tian glancing at Qi Sihao, who was still engrossed in his meal, obliviously unaware of the impending danger.

Ultimately, Yan Ming settled for a boxed lunch.
