Chapter 15: Control Devil (Makima) vs King of Devils (Lucifero)
Lucifero stared at the figure before him, seeing what he deemed as a mere whore—Makima, although he did not yet know her name. He noticed a single dark wing growing behind her, and his thoughts raced. Is that orb's true nature to fuse with this whore? She had no mana before—she was weak, insignificant. But now, she has mana on par with Naamah or even Zagred. Lucifero prepared his stance, ready to fight.
Despite his immense strength and gravity magic, Lucifero was a terrible hand-to-hand fighter, relying solely on brute punches, throws, and stomps to overpower his opponents.
Makima, now empowered by the Commandment of Piety embedded in her body and soul, analyzed the energy around her. So, this is what Kang Woo calls mana… she thought. But Lucifero's mana… it's nasty and disgusting. She focused on his abilities, recognizing that Lucifero's attacks centered around intense gravity magic, particularly his technique Presence of the Demon King, which radiated a large area of crushing gravitational force. No physical or magical attack can reach him in this zone, she surmised. However, Kang Woo's Darkness Manipulation can lessen its intensity, but not nullify it completely. She also noted Lucifero's quick temper—an exploitable weakness.
Lucifero, losing patience, launched the first attack. He activated Gravity Magic: Evil God's Pressure Craft, pulling a large rock from the ground and compressing it into a massive sword. He created twenty of them and launched them at Makima, riding one with the intent to claw her face.
Makima stood still, exuding an air of defiance, not giving a single sign of concern. As Lucifero charged at her, Makima's lips curled into a smirk. Beneath her, the ground erupted with skulls in a series of explosions remnants of Baba Yaga, a devil she had already enslaved. The explosion, suppressed by gravity, created a thick cloud of smoke not enough to harm Lucifero, but enough to cloud his sight and make him even more reckless.
Lucifero, angered by the disruption, intensified the gravity over a 2-kilometer radius, increasing its weight drastically and creating a crater. Makima, now feeling the pressure, slowed as she moved out of the smoke. This guy really is the King of Devils, she thought.
Lucifero, moving with surprising speed, appeared behind her and stomped down on Makima's back. His gravity-enhanced foot struck with overwhelming force, creating craters with each impact as he repeatedly stomped, shouting, "Whore scum, dieee!"
Makima, having anticipated his brutality, mitigated the damage using her dark wing that reinforced her back. She swiftly countered, catching Lucifero's foot with her hand. "Bang," she whispered, using telekinesis mixed with Hellblaze, sending a burst of dark flames up his leg, burning his foot. As Lucifero reeled from the pain, Makima submerged into the earth to escape, plotting her next move.
Lucifero, unaware, deactivated his gravity magic momentarily to regain his balance, but suddenly felt an intense pain in his chest. The Hellblaze attack had inflicted damage where the floating orb—the Commandment of Piety—had embedded itself, burning through and creating blackened patches on his skin. Inside, Lucifero could feel his heart was damaged cant be regenerated . He took a deep breath, trying to stabilize himself, but his anger only deepened.
Suddenly, a group of hybrids surrounded him: Barem Bridge in his flamethrower hybrid form, Miri Sugo in his long sword hybrid form, along with the Spear Hybrid and the Whip Hybrid. Lucifero's mood darkened further as he grit his teeth, feeling the pressure build within him and his rage grow.
Spear Hybrid and Whip Hybrid exchanged a wary glance. The Spear Hybrid broke the silence, muttering, "We're here to capture Makima, not to fight this monster."
The Whip Hybrid nodded, sharing the sentiment but remaining silent.
Barem, unfazed, smirked sarcastically, "Hey, my horned friend! I suppose you want to know that whore's real name—Makima, right? How about we work together?"
In his thoughts, Miri Sugo noted Barem's cavalier attitude but couldn't ignore the obvious. Look at his horns, Miri thought, Those horns signify he's a king.
Lucifero, still stabilizing himself, snapped, anger now boiling over. He pulled the boulder sword he had created earlier and grinned. "Heavy Infighting Gladiator," he sneered, moving in close to the hybrids. Lucifero swung the massive sword rapidly, decreasing the gravity on his arm and weapon to increase his swing speed and sharpen the blade.
As Lucifero slashed, Barem's confident demeanor wavered. Sensing the danger, Miri Sugo reacted first, pushing Barem aside. The sword cleaved Miri in two between the stomach and legs, blood spraying violently. Lucifero didn't even flinch, taunting coldly, "Magicless scum."
"Miriiii!" the Whip Hybrid screamed, rage boiling within her. She lashed out with her whip-like arms, which were strong enough to bisect a human. Although she knew her comrades were almost immortal, seeing them treated like that enraged her. Lucifero, still furious yet mildly amused, caught the Whip Hybrid's arm. He felt a small cut on his arm—tiny, but like a sharp pinch.
Lucifero's expression twisted into madness. "HOW DARE YOU HURT ME!" he roared, grabbing the Whip Hybrid's face. He stomped her repeatedly, creating massive craters with each impact as he enhanced his legs with gravity magic. The Whip Hybrid was left as a bloody, unrecognizable mess of bones and flesh.
Barem's expression darkened as a flash of memory returned to him from just a few minutes ago, when this monster had choked him and mocked him as a "low creature."
Lucifero turned to Barem, his voice dripping with contempt. "Low creature who didn't answer my question…" he sneered, just as he had done when he first met Barem.
Overwhelmed with fear, Barem involuntarily deactivated his hybrid form, revealing a man with relatively long black hair swept behind his ears, except for a single strand that dropped from his forehead and connected to his right eyebrow. Dressed in a standard Devil Hunter uniform, Barem's usual psychopathic confidence evaporated. I want to scream, to lash out, he thought, but every inch of me knows that if this monster gets angrier, we're all dead.
Lucifero looked at him with disdain. "Hooo, you're a mongrel, huh? Half-monster, half-human. What a scum. Now, lowly trash, answer me—why does this world have no mana?"
Swallowing his fear, Barem spoke, "This world has no mana, but devils exist, born from human fears. Hybrids like us are half-devil, half-human, created artificially. In America, there are 'Supes,' enhanced by an organization called Vought, which controls them."
Lucifero put a hand to his chin, seemingly deep in thought as he processed the information. Suddenly, he snapped and dropped one of the massive boulder swords he had created earlier (via Gravity Magic: Evil God's Pressure Craft) from the sky, pulverizing the Spear Hybrid into a mangled mess. Lucifero's eyes flared with fury. "You say you're a HALF-DEVIL? THAT'S AN INSULT TO ALL DEVILS, INCLUDING ME, YOU MAGICLESS SCUM! AND YOU STILL HAVEN'T ANSWERED WHY THERE'S NO MANA IN THIS WORLD!"
As Lucifero spoke, he summoned a swirling black sphere into his palm. Gravity Magic: Gravity Singularity created a small black hole that sucked in and destroyed anything within a short range. Lucifero grinned darkly as the singularity expanded and grew more menacing with each passing moment.
Barem, now utterly terrified, dropped to his knees. If that black sphere touches me, it's over. We hybrids need some part of our bodies to regenerate, he thought, panic racing through his mind. Barem's heart pounded as he stammered, "Th-This world doesn't know the concept of mana… only fear. Devils draw strength from fears that embody concepts—like phobias."
Desperation set in as Barem saw his opening to speak further. This is all Kang Woo's fault. Ever since he showed up, Makima changed… and now, this monster appears—something more horrifying than even a primal fear devil, he thought bitterly. Struggling to keep his voice steady, Barem continued, "But… there's an enemy that our country seeks—Kang Woo, and Makima. I-I could… guide you to the Public Safety Devil Hunters. They have facilities, knowledge—everything you might need to hunt them down."
Barem's demeanor was humbled, his fear palpable as he bowed his head and kept his eyes lowered, hoping to appease the terrifying figure before him. Suddenly, an hand pistol signature pierced Barem's chest from the ground and aimed at Lucifero. Barem coughed blood, immediately recognizing who it was. Makima…
Makima emerged from the shadows, grinning. "Thank you for being a human shield, my cute doggy, Barem."
Lucifero's grin widened as he realized the situation. "So, the whore called Makima by these low, invalid, magicless scum has finally shown up," he sneered. Lucifero's attention wavered momentarily, and in that instant, Hellblaze bombs hurtled toward him from behind. However, their trajectory bent under the pull of the Gravity Singularity.
Lucifero taunted, "Whore, did you really think someone with mid to high mana could compete with me?"
Makima's expression didn't change. She calmly retorted, "No, but this can."
Though the Hellblaze bombs shifted under Lucifero's gravity field, they weren't far enough to avoid him entirely. Makima had infused the bombs with Darkness, triggering a massive explosion that enveloped Lucifero.
"BANG," Makima whispered, as the explosion erupted, consuming both Lucifero and Barem. Makima, knowing that Hellblaze causes anti-immortal damage due to its targeting of the soul, used Baba Yaga's low-devil summoning. As the Control Devil, she forced a contract on the devils to divert the damage away from herself. Despite this, she still bled from her mouth and breathed heavily, thinking, I only have ten lives left. The other hundred shielded me from Kang Woo's version of Hellblaze.
Still holding Barem with her left hand to shield herself from the blast, Makima reinforced his body with Darkness, making her human shield strong enough to withstand the Hellblaze's onslaught. Barem remained alive, but the damage to his soul left him dizzy, causing him to puke blood. With Barem now slowing her down, Makima coldly discarded him, tossing her human shield aside.
As Makima scanned the destruction, she didn't find Lucifero's remains. However, she spotted him a few meters away, missing an arm—the one that had been damaged by Kang Woo's Hellblaze earlier. From Makima's perspective, Lucifero moved at incredible speed, but in reality, he had used an unnamed warp-evading technique. Lucifero had sacrificed his arm and reinforced his defenses with mana to prevent the Hellblaze explosion from damaging his body and heart directly. He knew that her Hellblaze was dangerous and not to be taken lightly.
Makima suddenly felt her body grow weary. Despite sacrificing a hundred devils to shield herself, some of the damage from the Hellblaze explosion had still reached her main soul, inflicting minor but crucial injuries. She sensed her left arm trembling. This is bad… I'm losing grip. Looks like I really need to heed Kang Woo's warnings, Makima thought.
Lucifero, ever the opportunist, wanted to settle the fight immediately but halted as the damage to his heart worsened. That black flame… I must not let it explode near my heart again, he thought. He turned his attention to the enemy before him.
Makima, determined, stretched every part of her body. Her joints crackled with a series of sharp pops—CRACK, POP, SNAP—each movement resonating through her tired frame as adrenaline surged, sharpening her senses. As she finished stretching, a dark aura enveloped her, and a single black wing unfurled from behind her back. A red halo materialized above her head, emanating an otherworldly glow. As she closed her eyes, she suddenly felt a surge of power.
Makima's POV, One Minute Ago
While stretching, Makima felt a sudden influx of power and knowledge. Flashes of memory revealed Kang Woo creating the Commandment of Piety—the second commandment he made. He had engraved within it his mastery of Hellblaze and the greatest darkness manipulation. Makima could almost hear Kang Woo singing a haunting melody (Hollow from FFVII, although she was unaware of the song's origins as her world didn't have such games).
As she realized Kang Woo's creation of the commandments was no lie, tears welled in her eyes—tears of hope that she might experience just one more tender moment with him. She whispered to herself, "I'm sorry I doubted you…" She paused, halting those words of apology, and declared softly, "No… I'm tired of saying sorry. Thank you, Kang Woo, for leaving me this legacy." She submerged herself deeper into the song's lyrics and the commandment's power, feeling the weight and resolve build within her.
A single black wing unfurled from behind her back, and a red halo appeared above her head, emanating a celestial yet fearsome glow.
End POV
Lucifero, now fully aware of his opponent's transformation, sneered with disdain. "So… a pathetic, insignificant devil of this wretched world dares to harm me? I almost find it amusing. You're not just a lowly creature—you're nothing but vermin, daring to challenge me, the King of Devils. And now, since you've earned this fleeting acknowledgment, I'll show you true despair. I will unleash my full power, eradicate your allies, and desecrate everything you hold dear."
Lucifero's eyes narrowed as his voice deepened. Wait… the floating orb belonged to that suicidal human, he thought, piecing the information together. This whore loves that weakling? The fool I stomped to death? So that's why she's fighting so hard… He chuckled darkly. "Your so-called lover? He's already gone. Soon, you'll join him in a fitting end. But before I deliver the final blow, tell me your name and what kind of devil you are. I want to remember the one who managed to push me this far."
As he spoke, Lucifero's body underwent a terrifying transformation. The power of his half-manifestation surged, causing spikes to form on his shoulders and elbows. His skin smoothed out, his horns thickened, the digits on his wings disappeared, and his skirt shrank to cover only his waist and upper thighs. A third eye appeared on his forehead, devoid of iris or pupil. A new arm grew below the severed one, seamlessly replacing it.
Makima opened her eyes—one of them now with a sharp black pupil, signifying the power of the Commandment becoming more unlocked and refined within her body. Her other eye retained its usual yellow color, with multiple red rings within it, marking her as the Control Devil. Exuding an aura of darkness and vengeance, she took a firm fighting stance.
"Makima," she introduced herself, her voice steady. "The current commander of Public Safety Devil Hunters and the Control Devil."
Makima's eyes burned with vengeance as she declared, "You took my future husband. A life for a life."
Makima began approaching Lucifero, her steps steady and deliberate. Lucifero mirrored her, taking slow, ominous steps forward. He activated Gravity Magic: Evil God's Pressure Craft, pulling a colossal rock from the ground and using intense gravitational force to compress it into a 3-kilometer-long sword. The sheer size of the sword eclipsed the moonlight as it continued descending, casting a shadow over the battlefield to showcase his overwhelming power.
Both adversaries stopped just three meters from each other, standing silently. Lucifero then grinned, making the first move. He unleashed Gravity Magic: Heavy Infighting, augmenting the gravity to increase the weight at the edges of his fists while lightening the punches for speed. This combination made his strikes faster yet more devastating, capable of creating immense craters upon impact. Bloodlust driving him, he didn't activate Presence of the Demon King, focusing instead on raw, physical aggression.
Lucifero launched a blindingly fast punch at Makima, who dodged by mere centimeters, using her single wing to propel herself with sudden speed. If I get hit by that, it's a sign of defeat, she thought. Using the opportunity, she enhanced her fist with Hellblaze and darkness, aiming a counter-strike at Lucifero's chest. Her hit connected but failed to penetrate his chest, which felt like reinforced steel.
Lucifero grinned, declaring, "The suicidal man didn't teach you that mana can be used as reinforcement?"
Without hesitation, Lucifero threw another punch with his left hand. Makima dodged, but a third arm formed at Lucifero's waist, catching her off guard and driving a brutal punch into her stomach. The force of his attack created a massive crater, the ground fracturing and sinking beneath them. Makima's body took the brunt of the impact, her internal organs destroyed from the shockwave. The crater stretched several meters deep and wide, as if the earth itself had buckled under Lucifero's wrath.
Makima's life force flickered. She lost one of her lives—leaving her with nine remaining. Nine more… before I run out, she thought. She observed Lucifero, who was now hovering in the air. Either he's arrogant or cautious because of my traps before but now I currently don't have any traps , she mused.
Convinced of his superiority, Lucifero activated Presence of the Demon King to pin Makima down. Yet, she was no longer on the ground. Moving at sudden speed, Makima appeared in front of him. Lucifero prepared his mana reinforcement on his chest, but she wasn't targeting there. Instead, Makima directed a Hellblaze bomb, wrapped in darkness to nullify gravity's effects, at his left arm. The explosion obliterated his arm.
"YOU DAMN WHORE!" Lucifero roared, his rage echoing.
Makima, undeterred, formed a pistol-hand gesture. This time, instead of Hellblaze, she utilized telekinesis reinforced with the life force of three lower devils and darkness. "Bang," she murmured. The impact shattered Lucifero's mana reinforcement, propelling him through the colossal boulder sword above.
Makima flew using her single wing, thinking, So this is what flying feels like… Is this what Kang Woo felt? It's nice. She glanced at Lucifero as he steadied himself with his four bat-like wings, noticing the mana reinforcement around his chest slowly regenerating.
After a moment, she taunted, "After all that, you still can't let go of that prideful defense of yours?"
Lucifero grinned, activating Presence of the Demon King to intensify gravity around himself, Makima, and the massive 3-kilometer boulder sword. Rather than pinning Makima, his intent was to force her to stay grounded on the sword's upper side, nullifying her aerial advantage. With this, the whore won't be able to pull off any more tricks, he thought.
Lucifero then increased the speed of the colossal boulder sword to Mach 1, amplifying the stakes and tension. The battlefield transformed into a high-speed arena, challenging both their limits as they faced off.
Makima looked around, a small smirk tugging at her lips. "Heh, feels like fighting on the roof of a Shinkansen train… not bad," she taunted, her sharp tone mixed with playful arrogance reminiscent of Kang Woo. She spoke his name with confidence: "Lucifero, King of the Qliphoth Underworld."
Lucifero grinned, his voice dripping with disdain. "So, that suicidal fool knew my name and passed it on to you? What a troublesome lover you've got, Makima."
The two acknowledged each other's names, understanding that this was their final showdown. Makima took a deep breath and adjusted her stance. She coated her fists in Hellblaze and wrapped her movements in darkness, allowing only brief bursts of speed and telekinesis. The enhanced Presence of the Demon King restricted her range, but she was ready for the close-quarters battle.
Lucifero gritted his teeth, coating his remaining arm in Gravity Magic and imbuing it with Heavy Infighting. His strikes became deceptively light yet devastatingly powerful. With a snarl, he unleashed a flurry of punches, each impact carving craters into the massive boulder sword below.
Makima dodged his wild blows with precision, the sheer force of his attacks threatening to unbalance her. She countered with refined martial arts, using telekinesis to redirect and guide her strikes at Lucifero's pressure points. Her blows, enhanced by Hellblaze, left blackened scars on his skin. But Lucifero showed his resilience by employing minimal Mana Reinforcement around his body, significantly reducing the damage from her flames while focusing most of the reinforcement on his chest—still cautious about Hellblaze threatening his heart.
Lucifero fought like a feral beast, his punches and kicks aimed to annihilate. His brute strength overwhelmed the environment, smashing through stone with his fists and sending shockwaves rippling through the air with every kick.
Makima matched him with grace and adaptability. She used her martial prowess and telekinesis to parry his strikes, attacking with a calculated ferocity. Sensing an opportunity, she targeted his remaining arm, aiming to cripple him further. But her instincts flared—something was off. Makima withdrew, widening the gap between them just in time.
Lucifero grinned, revealing a new arm sprouting from his back—dark and malevolent, holding a miniature black sphere. This was Gravity Singularity, a concentrated void that could consume everything in its path. He was preparing a devastating ambush.
Makima channeled her single dark wing into a more intense Hellblaze , combined with Darkness Manipulation, reinforcing her fists with increased power that leave her wingless .
Lucifero taunted, "You've finally put everything into your offense?"
Then, the massive boulder sword abruptly halted in midair. The oppressive aura of Presence of the Demon King faded, as if Lucifero intentionally disabled it. This unexpected shift destabilized Makima, flinging her off the massive blade. The immense force sent her careening away, hurtling toward the distant Tokyo skyline.
The sudden halt was Lucifero's ploy—by deactivating his gravity magic and releasing the gravitational pull, he created a violent recoil in the boulder's momentum, deliberately launching Makima away to create distance.
Makima, regaining control midair, reactivated her single dark wing to stabilize her trajectory. She aimed herself directly at the Public Safety Devil Hunter Japan headquarters. Her thoughts raced—If my subordinates are facing betrayal or a standoff, it's time to add fuel to the fire. Just like Kang Woo always acted: if there's already chaos… let's make it worse.
Meanwhile, at the Public Safety Devil Hunter Japan headquarters, Aki and Himeno, having been transported there by Makima's summoned rats, were greeted by Fumiko Mifune. "Welcome back. I hope everything went well at Aokigahara Forest. By the way, the Prime Minister is here to see you. Isn't that great?" Fumiko said, a mask of cheer hiding her true intentions.
Aware of the Prime Minister's betrayal and Makima's identity as the Control Devil—thanks to Kishibe's assurance that Makima was an ally due to Kang Woo's bad influence—Aki and Himeno proceeded with caution. Aki was the first to speak. "How about we start evacuating civilians from Tokyo? The mission at Aokigahara failed," he suggested.
Fumiko's smile didn't waver. "No, the Prime Minister is our priority. He is, after all, the leader of this country."
As Aki and Himeno moved forward, Fumiko's hand discreetly reached for a concealed revolver. She fired at their backs, but Aki, sensing the betrayal, snapped his fingers. "Kon!" he called. A massive fox head appeared, blocking the bullets with ease.
Himeno let out a sigh of relief. "Nice save, Aki."
Aki surveyed their surroundings, noting the armed assailants closing in. "Looks like we're surrounded," he muttered grimly.
Just then, Prime Minister Kentaro appeared, putting on an act. "Please, stand down. I apologize for Fumiko being a bit—"
Before he could finish, Himeno's ghost hand lashed out, choking Fumiko. Her expression darkened. "Oops, my hand slipped," she said, her eyes showing a flicker of fury.
"Do you even know what Makima is?" Kentaro demanded.
This time, it was Aki who answered, his voice steady but cold. "I saw Makima crying earlier. She's a good woman who lost her lover and was left powerless because of you. And now, we're in an apocalyptic situation with Lucifero running rampant." He took a step forward, anger simmering beneath his words. "Do you even realize what you've done? You pushed her to the brink, and now the world's on the edge of destruction. Devil or not, I don't care—but right now, I blame you for what's happening."
Kentaro looked confused. "Who the hell is Lucifero?"
Suddenly, Kishibe emerged from the shadows, stealthily dispatching several armed assailants with his dagger. He joined the group, nodding at Aki and Himeno. "Sorry I'm late. Anyone hurt?" he asked casually.
"No injuries," Aki replied. "But we're surrounded. Even if my fox devil is fully loyal now, bullets can still kill us."
Kentaro remained defiant. "I did what I had to do to protect this nation for the greater good," he said. In truth, Kentaro hid the fact that Vought had threatened him, but he genuinely believed he was doing what was necessary to avoid America's heavy penalties. Vought was like a nation hidden within a nation.
Kentaro's voice turned threatening. "One thing's for sure you can all still die if a bullet pierces your skulls. Except maybe Kishibe, since he's got experience."
Kishibe adjusted his grip on his dagger, eyeing Aki and Himeno as they prepared for an all-out fight. "Ready?" he asked.
Kentaro began counting, "One… two—"
Suddenly, the building's walls shattered as Makima crashed in at Mach speed, landing gracefully with her black wing spread and red halo glowing ominously above her head. She unleashed her chains, seizing control of about forty armed assailants. "Looks like I'll be killing you first, Kentaro," she declared coldly.
As Makima landed, her dark wing and red halo gave her a fearsome appearance.
Aki, eyes widening, muttered, "That's… new. Her power's evolved."
Himeno, trying to remain composed, whispered, "She looks like an actual devil now…"
Kishibe, seeing the floating orb no longer present, remarked, "Kang Woo's gifts…"
Makima confirmed with a simple, "Yeah," before focusing on Kentaro. With her signature pistol gesture, she fired, saying, "Bang," and blew off Kentaro's left leg.
Kentaro screamed in shock and pain, "My leg! You—!"
Before Makima could finish him, Aki intervened, "Ms. Makima, I understand your vengeance, but killing the Prime Minister now would throw Japan into chaos. Your status as a devil will be known, making things worse for everyone. We can't let that happen."
Makima paused, her expression unreadable, but she kept her pistol hand steady. She suddenly remembered her current mission wasn't over yet.
Lucifero, floating mid-air, taunted her, "You call yourself the current commander of this country's protector organization, Devil Hunter Group? I'll show you true despair!"
He unleashed the 3-kilometer boulder sword, plummeting from the sky at Mach 10. The ground quaked, and the air around them seemed to compress under the pressure of impending impact. Himeno deactivated her ghost hand from Fumiko, accepting the futility of resisting the enormous sword. Fumiko attempted to flee in panic, but the sword's vast size made escape impossible.
In a solemn acceptance of their fate, Aki took a cigarette from Himeno's pocket with quick hands. Himeno gave him a dry look. "Those are my last smokes," she sighed, but lit it anyway and took a deep drag. The smoke eased her nerves, preparing her for the end.
"Aki," Himeno murmured, her voice trembling slightly as she smoked, "I'm grateful I'm not alone at the end."
Aki leaned in, planting a kiss on Himeno's cheek, making her blush. "Himeno-senpai, if I get my vengeance, I'll marry you," he confessed.
Himeno chuckled softly, warmth mixing with the sadness of their predicament. "You idiot… always making things complicated," she whispered. But inside, she felt a sense of gratitude and an odd solace in facing this end together.
Kishibe, stoic as ever, readied his dagger, muttering, "Hope I get to see Quanxi again before I die ."
As the shadows loomed, Makima felt a compulsion in her body. Her left hand moved on its own, forming a pistol gesture. Suddenly, the world around her dissolved, and she found herself in a pristine white room, surrounded by multiple incarnations of the Control Devil. At the forefront stood Nayuta, her future self.
"I'm Nayuta, your future self ," the young version said.
Makima's thoughts flashed to Kang Woo's words. Ah… the Nayuta personality, she recalled, realizing that Kang Woo had foreseen her future even back then.
Nayuta placed her hand over Makima's left hand, steadying it. "We're so glad you continued living for us," Nayuta whispered, her tone filled with warmth and unity. "Here it comes—the concept of control itself."
Makima felt a surge of clarity and strength within her, a merging of all Control Devil aspects. With newfound courage, she whispered, "Bang."
Her shot streaked through the sky like a shooting star, slicing through the air and striking the boulder sword. The massive weapon disintegrated into dust before it could reach its target, dissipating in a burst of energy.
Lucifero's eyes widened, his face twisting into pure, grotesque fury. "Did you just use soul magic?" he bellowed, disbelief dripping from every word. His voice was almost swallowed by his own anger as his control slipped for a moment.
Makima seized that brief opening. Infusing her fists with Hellblaze and channeling her Darkness Manipulation, she created a blade-like extension from her arm. Without hesitating, she moved at incredible speed, aiming to strike Lucifero's core.
However, her blade met not the core but an empty space within his chest. "As King of Devils," Lucifero taunted, a dark grin spreading across his face, "I can move my heart to any part of my body." He revealed his heart, now pulsing in his neck. Mockingly, he added, "Did you think I'd leave it in one place for you?"
With a menacing chuckle, Lucifero conjured a dense black sphere with his remaining hand. "Gravity—" he began.
Suddenly, an unknown voice rang out. "Singularity," the voice finished with authority. Both Makima and Lucifero turned to the left, eyes widening. A figure stepped forward, smirking with casual familiarity.
"Yo, long time no see," the figure said, as if they were reconnecting after a simple separation. The weight of their presence shifted the atmosphere, adding an unexpected twist to the apocalyptic showdown.
