Chapter 100
Chapter 100: Even Just Serving Young Master Qin is a Blessing!
The next day, officials from the Empire’s Personnel Department arrived in Jiangzhou City, bearing an official message for Wang Minghui. They were there to discuss his recent promotion to the capital, though the meeting was more of a formality.
These inspectors, typically imposing and haughty, now greeted Wang Minghui with friendly smiles and treated him with utmost courtesy.
The message they brought was short but life-changing:
“Effective immediately, Jiangnan Province Security Committee Director Wang Minghui is reassigned as Chief Supervisory Officer of the Empire’s Supervision Ministry, Second Department.
As the news spread, Wang Minghui and his family immediately began preparations to move to the capital. Before they left, a farewell banquet was held in his honor by the upper echelons of Jiangnan Province’s government.
Among those present was Council Speaker Hao Qi himself, who approached Wang Minghui with a warm smile and a raised glass.
“Director Wang, don’t forget us when you’re in the capital,” he said, his tone both congratulatory and cautious. “You’re one of us Jiangnan people, after all. This province will always be your home.”
Hao Qi and Wang Minghui politely argued over who would lower their glass in a show of humility until Hao Qi himself held Wang’s glass with one hand, while using his other to tilt his own glass slightly lower in a deferential gesture, before taking his drink.
With a careful smile, he added, “If I ever overstepped my boundaries before, just know it was all for the work, no hard feelings.”
Seeing Hao Qi’s demeanor, Wang Minghui felt a new depth of appreciation for the power he now wielded.
Not long ago, Hao Qi—the second-most powerful figure in the province, his authority second only to the governor—would have been intimidating and untouchable.
Wang Minghui, as Director of the Security Committee, had endured his share of criticism and scolding from Hao Qi. And now, Hao Qi’s respect wasn’t just a show; it was laced with a nervousness about whether Wang might hold a grudge.
The realization hit hard—just a few words from Young Master Qin had transformed his life overnight.
Wang Minghui took in the scene around him, where officials, one after the other, eagerly approached him with words of farewell. Even those who weren’t looking to forge a close connection with him now were at least hoping to avoid being on his bad side.
Yet amid the display of admiration and cautious respect, Governor Nie Jianzhong remained composed.
As governor, he was among the empire’s highest-ranking dignitaries and didn’t need to lower himself to curry favor with the Qin family. Even so, he warmly congratulated Wang Minghui and spoke to him with a warmer tone than before.
After the farewell banquet, Wang Minghui returned home to his family.
“Father! You’re back!” called a cheerful, sweet-faced young girl. She was youthful and beautiful, with a bright smile that lit up the room.
This was Wang Siyao, Wang Minghui’s eighteen-year-old daughter. A lively and obedient girl, Wang Siyao had recently awakened to an A-level Astrologer class, which, along with her quick progression to level 14, had earned her the title of a rising talent in her father’s eyes.
“You’re home, my dear?” Wang Minghui asked with a smile, his pride evident. His daughter had just returned from leveling up in a new instance, and he was eager to share the news.
“Yes, Dad! I heard we’re moving to the capital?” Wang Siyao asked with a wide-eyed excitement. To her, the capital—the empire’s political and cultural center—was something straight out of a dream.
“That’s right. The transfer orders are finalized, and I’ll be taking up a post as Chief Supervisory Officer in the Empire’s Oversight Ministry. Tomorrow, we’re packing up and heading for the capital!”
Turning to his wife, Sun Yao, he instructed, “Prepare a gift. As soon as we’re settled in, we’ll pay a visit to Young Master Qin.”
“Go directly?” Sun Yao hesitated. Coming from a distinguished family, she knew the gates of the Qin estate weren’t open to just anyone.
“Don’t be so short-sighted!” Wang Minghui scolded her sharply. “This is the best time to go. Young Master Qin’s attention is still on me, so I need to make a good impression now. If I wait too long, he’ll forget me, and I won’t even get past the front gate!”
Normally, Sun Yao, who came from a prestigious background herself, wouldn’t have tolerated Wang Minghui’s tone. After all, it was through her family’s support that he’d risen to his current position.
But now, she only nodded eagerly, admiring her husband’s decisiveness. The man she saw before her seemed positively radiant with confidence and wisdom.
“Understood! I’ll prepare everything immediately!” she replied, hurrying to organize a gift.
Seeing the sudden shift in his wife’s attitude, Wang Minghui was elated. “No need to go overboard with expensive things,” he advised. “Young Master Qin has access to every luxury imaginable. Let’s choose something meaningful and unique to show our sincerity.”
He glanced at his daughter, Wang Siyao, who watched them with curiosity. After a moment of contemplation, he decided, “Siyao, you should dress up a little. You’ll be coming with me to meet Young Master Qin.”
Wang Siyao blinked in confusion, unsure of why she needed to go. But her father had spoken, so she nodded obediently.
Wang Minghui entertained a thought. If fate were so kind that Young Master Qin took a liking to his daughter, that would truly be his path to glory!
As for his daughter’s happiness… he rationalized, “If Young Master Qin favored her, even as one of many, she would become one of the most powerful women in the empire. We would all rise alongside her.”
—
In the capital, Eternal Ascent Manor
In a luxurious villa nestled within the peaceful surroundings of Eterna Ascent Manor, Qin Xian stood on the second floor, admiring the refined landscaping and serene ambiance outside his window.
He nodded in satisfaction before turning to the woman standing behind him.
Su Keqing looked up at him, her face lit up with joy. “Yes, it’s wonderful here. The environment is perfect.”
For her, being here was an honor she hadn’t dared hope for. From the moment she’d given herself to Qin Xian, she had seen herself as his woman entirely.
Living alone in the capital had made her anxious, wondering if he might one day leave her behind.
After all, she was well aware of her place. Someone like Qin Xian could have any woman he wanted, and she knew better than to overestimate her own importance.
