Chapter 93: The Fierce Woman Gets Scared
Don’t be fooled by Tang Fei’s youth—despite being only in her mid-twenties, she had solved countless cases. In just three years since graduating from the police academy, she had already risen to the position of captain of the criminal investigation team at the district police station. The officer who arrested Zhou Lang, Wu Jianfeng, was her deputy and also the nephew of Chief Wu Kai.
Chief Wu had a very specific reason for sending Tang Fei to interrogate Zhou Lang.
Tang Fei was known as the “violent dragon” of the police force. When suspects refused to cooperate during interrogation, she had plenty of methods to make them talk. No matter how hardened or experienced the suspect, they would always confess under her pressure.
Wu Jianfeng had reported to Wu Kai that Zhou Lang might be a tough nut to crack. In response, Wu Kai called Tang Fei to his office and recounted the fabricated story concocted by Jiang Zhengqiu. Wu Kai assured her that the case was already clear-cut, and all that was left was for Zhou Lang to confess and sign the paperwork.
Wu Kai was well aware of Tang Fei’s methods. If Zhou Lang didn’t confess, he knew she would resort to violence, which was exactly the outcome he wanted.
Tang Fei was accompanied by a young male officer carrying a notebook to record the interrogation. He was one of her subordinates.
As the two officers entered the room, Zhou Lang, who was handcuffed to a fixed chair, lifted his head slightly, observing them. Naturally, his gaze lingered on Tang Fei because she was quite beautiful.
Tang Fei was known as the flower of the Linwu District Police for her outstanding looks and demeanor. Dressed in her police uniform, she exuded an air of competence and strength. The only thing lacking, Zhou Lang mused, was her chest—under the uniform, it seemed modest, with only small bumps visible instead of any noticeable curves. Had she been more endowed, she might have been on par with beauties like Zhao Xiaorou, Ivannova, or Li Mengxue.
Zhou Lang couldn’t help but feel it was a shame.
“You must be Zhou Lang. I am Tang Fei, captain of the criminal investigation team in Linwu District. I am here to interrogate you, and I expect your full cooperation,” Tang Fei said coldly as she sat at the desk in the interrogation room. The young male officer beside her turned on a desk lamp and began preparing to take notes.
“Yes, I’m Zhou Lang,” he replied calmly.
“How old are you? What’s your occupation? Where do you live?”
Tang Fei asked skillfully. These were standard questions in any interrogation. Though Zhou Lang didn’t look like a robber, she wasn’t surprised—she had encountered many seemingly innocent criminals in her career.
“I’m 21, a third-year clinical medicine student at Dianxi University’s medical school. For now, I’m renting an apartment off-campus,” Zhou Lang answered.
“I’ve already been briefed on your case by our chief. Do you plead guilty?” Tang Fei asked directly. She was a bit surprised to learn that Zhou Lang was a university student, but it was getting close to 10 p.m., and she didn’t want to spend all night here. She planned to wrap this up quickly.
Tang Fei trusted her chief implicitly and had no idea that she was being used by Wu Kai as a pawn. This was where Wu Kai’s cunning came into play. If this wrongful arrest were ever exposed, Wu Kai could easily shift the blame entirely onto Tang Fei.
“Officer Tang, you mean you already know the case without even questioning me, and you expect me to plead guilty? Isn’t that ridiculous?” Zhou Lang responded lightly. He had initially thought Tang Fei seemed righteous, but after hearing her speak, he suspected that she was in league with Jiang Zhengqiu and the others.
Of course, this was a misjudgment on his part. Tang Fei wasn’t as corrupt as Wu Kai or Wu Jianfeng—she was just a bit too heavy-handed. Overall, she was still a good cop.
“So, you refuse to plead guilty?”
Tang Fei sneered, her face turning as cold as ice.
“Zhong, step outside.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
The young officer stood up and quickly left the room, not without muttering under his breath as he closed the door, “Looks like this guy’s going to get a real beating from the captain again.”
As soon as he left, Tang Fei strode up to Zhou Lang and said, “This is the last time I’ll ask: do you plead guilty or not? If you don’t cooperate, don’t blame me for what happens next!”
With that, she raised her leg and kicked a nearby chair, splintering it into pieces with a single blow. Wood chips flew everywhere in the interrogation room.
Tang Fei’s skills were no joke. Her kick was fast and powerful, and this wasn’t the first chair she had destroyed in this room. It was one of her intimidation tactics—most suspects would crack after seeing her display of violence and confess their crimes out of fear.
Of course, she had other methods if that didn’t work.
“This policewoman is violent. She sent that young officer away just so she could use force to make me confess. It looks like the entire Linwu District Police Station is full of corrupt and lawless individuals. I’ll have to report this to Secretary Lei Gang and get this place cleaned up!”
Zhou Lang thought to himself. He had prepared a backup plan and was on good terms with Secretary Lei Gang of Feiyun City, so he wasn’t worried about getting out of this situation.
If it had been any other suspect, they would have been terrified by now. But Zhou Lang remained calm. He glanced at Tang Fei and asked, “Officer Tang, are you planning to use violence to force a confession?”
“What forced confession? Chief Wu has already thoroughly investigated your case. There’s no point in resisting. I’m different from other cops—you don’t confess, I don’t mind getting a little rough,” Tang Fei sneered. However, she was starting to get curious. This was the first suspect she had ever encountered with such a calm demeanor and strong mental fortitude.
“It seems you’ve all been bought off by Jiang Zhengqiu and Li Zhigang,” Zhou Lang sighed.
“If you dare use violence against me, I will defend myself.”
“Self-defense? A suspect like you talking about self-defense in front of a police officer? That’s hilarious,” Tang Fei laughed.
“You’ve wrongfully arrested the innocent while letting the real criminals run free. You should know that self-defense is a right every citizen has,” Zhou Lang said coldly. If it weren’t for the special circumstances that had led him to become a powerful individual, he truly would have been framed by Jiang Zhengqiu today and tortured into a confession by the police. The thought made his anger boil.
“You’re asking for a beating!”
Tang Fei was convinced Zhou Lang was a robber. She let out a grunt and threw a hook punch aimed at his abdomen.
She was experienced in delivering blows. Hitting someone’s face would leave bruises, which were too visible, but a hit to the stomach could cause internal injuries without leaving obvious marks.
At that moment, Zhou Lang’s hands were cuffed to the chair, and his feet were shackled too, making it impossible for him to dodge. The chair was bolted to the floor, so he couldn’t even lean away.
Bang!
Just as Tang Fei’s punch was about to land, there was a loud snap. The handcuffs and shackles on Zhou Lang’s wrists and ankles broke apart.
In a split second, Zhou Lang grabbed Tang Fei’s wrist.
Tang Fei was stunned. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Zhou Lang had just effortlessly broken through the steel handcuffs and shackles, and now, standing before her, he was like a fierce tiger. For the first time, fear gripped her heart.
