Chapter 26: Humanity triumph victory (Season 1 finale)
The next day, Shane woke up with a clear goal in mind—he was finally returning to his home country. The battle had been won, but there was still much work to be done, and he needed to ensure that any lingering threats would be dealt with accordingly. Before his departure, he made sure to report to Marshal Pentecost.
"Sir, I'll be returning to my home country today," Shane said firmly.
Pentecost, sitting behind his desk, nodded in approval. "You've done an excellent job, Buron. Go home and get some rest. But keep an open line—we may need you again."
Shane gave a firm nod. "Of course, sir."
However, just as he was about to leave, Raleigh intercepted him. "Hey, man, you're not leaving without celebrating first, are you? We just saved the world, Shane! One night won't hurt."
Shane smirked but hesitated. He wasn't one to revel in celebrations for too long, but Raleigh had a point. The world had changed overnight, and they had made history.
"Fine," Shane finally relented. "One night."
That evening, the entire base erupted into one of the biggest celebrations in history. Music blared through the halls, pilots and engineers laughed and danced, and bottles of alcohol flowed freely. There was an overwhelming sense of relief and triumph in the air. Shane even found himself enjoying a drink or two, though he kept an eye on Newt, who was partying harder than anyone else.
Despite the revelry, Shane's mind remained sharp. He was still determined to keep Newt under surveillance. The link between humans and Kaiju had disturbed him greatly, and he wasn't going to let it slide.
The next morning, while most of the base was nursing hangovers, Shane was already up, fully dressed, and prepared for his departure. He gathered his belongings and made his way to the hangar, where a transport plane was waiting for him. Newt, still groggy, stumbled behind him, rubbing his temples.
"Damn, man, you really know how to party," Newt mumbled, barely able to keep up.
"I didn't come here to party," Shane responded dryly. "Let's go."
As the plane lifted off, Shane gazed out the window. The war had ended, but his mission was far from over. He had a duty to his people, to his country, and to the future of humanity.
Upon arrival, the moment his plane touched down in the Philippines, he was greeted by a thunderous crowd. The airport was packed with people cheering, waving flags, and holding up banners with his name on them. The entire nation had come together to welcome their hero home.
As Shane stepped out of the plane, a deafening roar of applause filled the air. Confetti rained down from the sky, and a parade had been arranged in his honor. Families, children, and even government officials stood in admiration as he walked down the red carpet leading to the main stage.
One of the officials approached him with a microphone. "Shane Buron, our country's pride and hero, welcome home!"
Shane took the microphone, surveying the massive crowd before him. He wasn't one for long speeches, but he knew he had to say something.
"I didn't do this alone," Shane began, his voice strong and unwavering. "This victory belongs to all of us. Every pilot, every engineer, every scientist who worked tirelessly to keep humanity safe—you are all heroes. The battle may be over, but we must remain vigilant. We must continue to protect our world."
"Humanity will always prevail. No matter the monster, we will rise. We are the engineers of our own survival"
The crowd erupted in cheers once again, their admiration for Shane growing even stronger.
End of chapter.
