Chapter 8: Another Day, Another Drama
Y/N's POV
I walk into the daycare the next morning. "Good morning, Sunrise." I call out.
"HI, Y/N," Sunrise calls out cheerfully, already starting to prepare for the day.
Sunrise's POV
I double-check that everything is in its place. I glance at the clock-soon the kids will start arriving, and I want to make sure that everything is perfect.
"Alright," I say to myself, "everything looks good."
I adjust a few toys on the shelves and make sure the art supplies are within reach for the children's creative projects.
I quickly wake up Sammy, Lana, Izzy, and Jade. Maybe their parents will pick them up today.
Y/N opens the door and stands there, ready to greet the parents and the children.
Y/N's POV
I look back, feeling something touch my leg. "Lana? Sammy? Izzy? Jade? What are you four doing here?"
"We didn't get picked up yesterday," Sam answers.
"We tried to get out of here so we could get away from Mr. Sun," Izzy adds.
"But then, I saved them from Monty!" Sunrise chimes in. "And now they love me!" he exclaims, spinning on his heel happily.
"I still hate you," Lana mutters.
Sunrise scoffs, giving an unimpressed look. "Fine then. But I'm still better than Moon!"
I kneel down to their level, giving them a reassuring smile. "We'll figure this out, okay? But for now, let's get you four some breakfast and see if we can reach your parents. They should be on their way soon."
I lead the children to one of the tables area, giving each of them some pancakes.
Sam's POV
"Did mommy become dead?" Jade asks anxiously.
"No, your mommy did not become dead," I grumble.
"You don't know that," Izzy mutters.
I look at their worried faces and sigh. "I guess I don't. But let's just eat our breakfast and wait for our parents to come get us. We'll be okay. I think."
I try to offer a reassuring smile, though it's hard to ignore my own worries.
"Girls? Are you still here?" A voice calls.
"Sammy!" Another, yet familiar, voice calls.
Jade gets out of her seat and runs to the door with her sisters following behind her.
"Hey! Wait for me!" I shout.
Y/N's POV
I watch as Jade and her sisters rush to their mother, their faces lighting up with joy. Sam snuggles against his father. I can't help but smile at the reunion.
Sunrise joins me at my side, and looks at the four kids. "Why don't you kids go play? Ashley and I need to have a talk with your parents."
"Is daddy in trouble?" Sam asks curiously.
Sunny gives a reassuring smile. "Of course not! We're just going to tell them how good you kids are!"
The kids seem unsure but they run off to play.
"Is something wrong?" Mr. Davis asks, looking concerned.
Sunrise's POV
I give a strained chuckle. "Actually, yes. We need to discuss why Sam, Izzy, Lana, and Jade were left behind overnight. It's important to understand what happened so we can ensure this doesn't happen again."
Izzy, Jade and Lana's mother looks confused. "I thought Bri was supposed to pick them up."
"Well why couldn't you pick them up, Ms. Ruby?" I ask, trying not to let my anger burst. "And you Mr. Davis, why weren't you here?"
Mr. Davis shifts uncomfortably. "Okay... So maybe we got too occupied with having a little fun..."
"A LITTLE FUN?" I snap. "YOU CHOSE A LITTLE FUN OVER YOUR KIDS?"
Meanwhile on the other side of the daycare...
Lana's POV
"Did Mr.Sun just scream?" Izzy whispers.
"Mr. Sun always screams," I say to Izzy.
"Not when he's upset," says Sam.
We are silent. "At least Mr. Moon wasn't the one getting mad at them," I point out.
"Mr. Moon is scary," says Jade.
"But Mr. Sun only becomes Mr. Moon when the lights are off," says Sam.
Y/N's POV
I watch the scene with a mix of concern and sympathy. Seeing Sunny so visibly upset is unusual, and it's clear this situation has hit a nerve. I step closer to Mr. Davis and Ms. Ruby.
"Let's focus on making sure this doesn't happen again," I say calmly, trying to mediate. "What can we do to prevent this in the future?"
Sunrise's POV
I take a deep breath. "I'm sorry for my outburst," I say, struggling to calm down. "I just... I care a lot about the children, and seeing them left behind was hard. We need to establish a better system for pick-ups and ensure it's followed. Okay? Okay. Thank you!"
Y/N's POV
I watch Sunny leave the conversation, skipping across the daycare to the arts and crafts table. I look back at the parents. "I know everyone makes mistakes, but the safety of the children should always come first. Let's work together to make sure something like this doesn't happen again."
Lana's POV
I look at Sam, who is frowning. "Maybe we should just stay away from Mr. Sun for now," he suggests. "He looks really mad."
I nod. It's not like I want to go near him anyways.
Y/N's POV
I notice the parents and kids beginning to fill the daycare. I take a moment to collect my thoughts and prepare to greet the new arrivals. The earlier conversation with Mr. Davis and Ms. Ruby had been intense, but now it's important to focus on the children and ensure they feel welcomed and safe.
"Good morning, everyone!" I call out cheerfully, putting on a bright smile to set a positive tone for the day.
Sunrise's POV
I watch as the kids start arriving and quickly switch gears. My frustration from earlier is replaced by a renewed focus on making the daycare a fun and secure environment. I nod to y/n and try to put the incident behind me.
"Hey kids," I call out, "let's get started with some fun activities! Who's ready for a new adventure today?"
Lana's POV
Another day in the daycare. Another day I am being forced to interact with other kids. Ugh.
