Origins of Fate

"Eric. I have a plan." I said quickly to the guy next to me, and the lightning mercenary listened carefully to what I had to say.

In the distance, Zero is already charging up a ton of power with his darkness origin. From the looks of it, he is already in range to unleash a very powerful attack towards us, even though he is over twenty meters away on the crater.

BOOMM!!!!!!

In an instant, the gap between us and him was closed. With a single jump, Zero arrived right in front of us with his long black sword charged with a ton of darkness origin. And seeing him suddenly appearing in front of us like this obviously made us react.

"Now, Eric!!" I shouted as I dodged away, and Eric lifted his sword forward towards Zero.

FTAAANNNGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very quickly, Eric lifted his sword to block Zero's strike. However, the attack coming was far too powerful for even someone like Eric.

The mercenary boy got thrown backwards quite far back, and I was left standing alone only a few meters away from Zero. The black knight turned his cold glare behind the helmet towards me, and I only gritted my teeth.

Tsk. This won't be easy, huh…?

VWOOMMM!!!!!!!!

I began covering my entire body in flames right when Zero started using his darkness origin. Hundreds of shadow spikes appeared in the short distance between us, and I leaped away just in time before the spikes ever touched me.

But thanks to the flames I casted around my body, the darkness couldn't touch me due to its nature of not existing around anything bright. The dark spikes only melt and disappear after it failed to touch me, but Zero already knew that this was going to happen.

VWOOSSSHH!!!!!

In an instant, he closed the gap between us using a single leap. I lifted my sword that was covered in flames to attack him, but another bright energy came from my left.

BLAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ground in front of me exploded into a million pieces after lightning struck, and I turned my gaze to Eric who was standing ten meters away from me.

"D-Dude… Friendly fire??" I asked out of confusion, but Eric is already pointing his finger somewhere else.

Quite far away from me, Zero managed to dodge the lightning strike that Eric shot at him. However, the blast affected some parts of his armor, causing a slight damage on the black armor made by darkness origin.

Seeing Zero so damaged by that sudden blast made me realize that the idea I had has indeed worked successfully. Knowing this, I quickly jumped away towards Eric and arrived right next to him.

"It worked. But, I think there's something we can switch up." I said after arriving next to Eric, and he turned his annoyed gaze at me.

"You want me to…?"

"Yes. I think that's much better." I said my idea to him, and he let out a sigh as he lowered his hand.

"Fine. You better not hit me." Eric said coldly as he prepared for a rush forward, and I turned my gaze back to Zero in the distance. He seems to be approaching us quite calmly, and I know that he is doing so not because he thinks of us as children and looks down on us.

I know that he is being extra careful. He is definitely taking this fight just as seriously as we do.

In that case, we'll have to show him that we're better.

"Let's go, Eric. Jump away when I say so." I said while lifting my left hand forward, pointing at the dark knight. Next to me, Eric is already charging his body with electricity.

"Got it." Eric said shortly before zapping away, dashing straight towards the enemy.

BZZZZTTTT!!!!!!!!

Seeing the lightning speed movement coming from Eric, Zero quickly reacted by jumping backwards. His black sword is covered in a black aura, and I knew right away that such technique is very deadly.

"If you're approaching so blatantly, of course I'm going to see you!!" Zero shouted as he swung his black sword forward, and Eric quickly dashed to the side at an even higher speed. Seeing Eric move so quickly to dodge the attack, Zero only became more confused.

"What!?"

"Move, Eric!" I shouted while activating my Limit Break once more, and Eric began rushing away from Zero's position.

After Eric had gone quite far, I fired the fireball forward, carrying kilotons of explosive mass towards the black knight. And seeing such powerful explosive coming at him, Zero only lifted his protection made of darkness origin.

However, I knew right away that such protection can't do anything.

After all, darkness will lose to fire.

BOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My fireball landed exactly where Zero previously stood, exploding massively to destroy everything nearby. The shockwave of the blast affected me badly, who was over twenty meters away. But, I just waved my hand in front of my face so I could breathe.

And whilst doing so, Eric arrived right next to me in a zap of lightning. We waited for the smoke to show us any result of our actions, and finally the smoke cleared after a strong wind.

Revealing… a rather wounded knight.

"Clever… Lightning boy as distraction, and fire boy as the real damage dealer." From behind the smoke, Zero's voice echoed heavily, which made both of us on alert once again.

"Granted, I stand no chance in this fight, considering my origin is at a disadvantage. Not only is this a one against two, but I'm also facing two of the most talented younglings from the elemental academy.

As exciting as it is, I'm afraid the time for our fun time is over. You kids have lost."

Zero stepped forward from the smoke, revealing to us that he is indeed quite badly wounded. The blast removed most of his black armor that was made of darkness origin, and blood can be seen all over his body.

But the smirk in his face… something tells me that it is nothing good.

"Rejoice, young talents of new Avenor. You were born at the right time for the greatest war god to make his appearance!" Zero said proudly while pointing his sword to the skies behind him, and both me and Eric can only turn wildly confused at that.

"What the hell is he--"

"That's the direction of the sarcophagus." I said quickly to cut off Eric's question, and the guy turned his confused glare at me.

"Meaning??" He asked once more, and I turned my gaze to the skies in the distance.

The skies have gotten very dark. It was already dark before thanks to whatever sorcery that Zero and the headmaster was doing at the ancient city, but now it's a lot darker than before. And now that I've looked upwards, I can now see exactly what they are doing.

A giant black swirl can be found on the black clouds, right above where the collapsed triangle tower was. The swirling black cloud is now gradually going down and down, reaching the ground quite fast, assisted by thunder strikes that are coming out of the black clouds.

And the moment the black cloud reaches the crater, I can feel the ground shake quite powerfully.

VWUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The air felt thinner than before. The ground started to shake little by little, and the laughter of the wounded man in front of me became louder.

"Ahahaha!!! It's been so long… I've missed this feeling!!" Zero said loudly, and I can only guess what is about to happen next.

"… Eric." I said quickly, and the guy next to me nodded.

"Right behind you." 

Hearing his answer, a grin formed on my face. I prepared myself to cast simultaneous explosive techniques, and I can feel Eric is doing the same.

"Now!"

BOOOMMM!!!!!!

BZZZZTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very quickly, we both disappeared into a rushing flame and a lightning strike.

In the form of two bright energy lights, we both passed by the position Zero was standing. A bright ball of fire and a zap of lightning flew past him towards where the cloud was touching the crater, and Zero quickly realized what was about to happen.

"… No!!" Zero shouted loudly as he started following behind us, but it's too late for him. Not only are we too fast for him, we also moved a lot earlier than him. And surprisingly, the distance to the crater was never that far.

Beforelong, we arrived at the edge of the crater, and we quickly jumped down onto the destroyed tower. We kept on running towards the swirl of black clouds in front of us, and my eyes caught a glimpse of lights coming from my right.

…? It's them!

On my right, I can see Nyssa, Lily, and Jonah, all flying towards the same position as where Eric and I are flying to. I can tell that they noticed us too, and it looks like we all had the same idea.

"GIVE IT EVERYTHING YOU GOT!!!!" I shouted very loudly while charging my own fireball, and everyone heard it loud and clear. Next to me, Eric is charging his own favorite lightning charged ball of energy that can destroy the titanium wall. And on my right, I can tell Nyssa, Jonah, and Lily are also doing the same techniques.

"You're not doing anything!! Give up!!!" Behind me, Zero's voice became louder as he arrived at the edge of the crater, but it was far too late for him to do anything.

"SHOOOTTT!!!!!---"

"Quite a nice idea you got here."

JREBBB!!!!!!!!!

Wha…?

Without realizing, the headmaster's face is right in front of me. 

How…?

His body is covered in bright white energy, revealing that he has enchanted his body with his light origin. He must've used his light speed movement to arrive in front of me, and I was far too focused on shaping the fireball in my hand to notice him coming. His hand is holding a bright white sword that has successfully stabbed me on the chest, which resulted in a massive surge of pain arriving onto my head.

Everyone was about to shoot away their origin techniques towards the black swirl, but they quickly froze on the spot the moment Headmaster Hendrick appeared in front of me and stabbed me. I noticed that Eric wants to do something about it, and I can tell everyone else probably wants to turn their attacking techniques towards the headmaster instead.

But, I'm not that easily killable.

"JUST SHOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I shouted as loud as I could, all while ignoring the insane levels of pain coming from my chest. Blood literally spurted out of my mouth as I shouted that, and some can be seen landing on the headmaster's face.

And hearing that command, my four closest friends from the academy listened well.

BZZZTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next to me, Eric fired his electric ball forward, releasing a ton of electricity into the air. From their position, Jonah, Lily, and Nyssa also fired their strongest elemental abilities towards the swirl, wishing to destroy anything and everything that is at the center of the black swirl.

And beforelong, the origin techniques they fired combined into one powerful explosion. The shockwave was released all over the place, pushing everything and everyone nearby away.

Time felt as if it had slowed down. I can see the others in the distance getting pushed back by the explosion, and I can tell Eric next to me is already trying to close the distance between him and the headmaster.

Meanwhile, the headmaster is still staring dead straight at my face. I knew that his speed was more than enough to move away from the explosion at the very last second, that is why I am planning on not allowing that to happen.

I let go of the right hand that is holding my sword and placed my palms on his neck. My left hand is still holding the big explosive fireball that I created to destroy the sarcophagus at the center of the black swirl, and I only pointed it downwards right where we are standing.

The headmaster noticed what I was trying to do, and he tried his best to get away from the hand that is holding his neck. However, the more he tries to get away, the tighter the grip becomes.

"Son of Fae… Don't." The headmaster said with a panicked look, and it truly is the first time I've ever seen him so panicked.

Meanwhile, I only grinned as I released the fireball to the ground.

"See you in hell!"
