Chapter 81 - A Waltz in the Battlefield
Chapter 81 A Waltz in the Battlefield
Shoop! Shoop! Shoop…
Bullets came with the sound of tearing air and the searing heat, like a burning web trapping Ning Tao and Jiang Hao in the middle.
There was a sniper on roof and militants on the ground closing in on them. The existential crisis easily trumped all distractions. Ning Tao took a deep breath, popped his hand out, and pulled the trigger.
Bang!
A bullet flew from the muzzle, and one of the militants fell to the ground, clutching his neck. Blood poured about a meter into the air from between his fingers. Apparently, he was struck in the carotid artery by the bullet.
Ning Tao was going to shoot him in the chest, but at the moment he shot him, he got nervous and forgot Jiang Hao had told him to control the recoil. As a result, the muzzle went up a bit. Today, however, seemed to be his lucky day–not only had he repaired his inkstone, but he had also hit his target when he made a mistake.
“Did the bullet hit the target?” Jiang Hao asked. Ning Tao fired before she could help him steady his arm, but she couldn’t see anyone falling in the shaded darkness. Moreover, the bullet was flying around them, and she did not dare look out from behind the tree.
“Looks like one man was shot. Those guys are hiding again,” Ning Tao replied.
“How did you see the target?” Finally, Jiang Hao had a chance to ask the question that had been bothering her.
Ning Tao suddenly withdrew his hand and rolled over with Jiang Hao in his arms.
Click!
The tree trunk made a high-pitched sound, and a bullet from a sniper rifle went through the tree trunk and hit the place where Ning Tao and Jiang Hao was, causing the earth to splash!
Ning Tao and Jiang Hao stopped rolling, with Ning Tao on top of Jiang Hao. Jiang Hao wanted to see Ning Tao’s face and his expression and eyes, but she couldn’t see clearly. Yet, she could feel the rapid breath coming out of his nostrils.
“Don’t be nervous. I know it feels bad to shoot someone for the first time,” Jiang Hao said.
Ning Tao nodded and rolled over Jiang Hao. Jiang Hao’s comfort didn’t have much effect on him.
“They only have one pistol,” a militant said in English from behind a tree. “Keep them down with fire, and let’s go and kill them!”
“They are really hostile forces from our country. They are so arrogant!” Jiang Hao whispered in a cold voice.
Ning Tao put the pistol into Jiang Hao’s hand and said, “You shoot. I’m not good at it. I’ll conduct. Shoot when I tell you to.”
Jiang Hao nodded and nimbly pulled herself up from the ground.
Ning Tao clung to Jiang Hao’s back from behind. His right hand reached out from the outside of her right shoulder to hold her hand with his arm touching hers.
Jiang Hao got inexplicably nervous.
Ning Tao suddenly moved Jiang Hao’s right arm and then stopped in one position. At the same time, his voice reached Jiang Hao’s ears. “Shoot!”
Jiang Hao pulled the trigger.
With the crack of a pistol, a militant who had just emerged from behind a tree fell to the ground. Jiang Hao and Ning Tao teamed up and hit the guy in the head.
Ning Tao put his left hand around Jiang Hao’s waist, and suddenly took a step sideways. His right arm led Jiang Hao’s right arm to point diagonally to the roof of the lab.
“Shoot!”
Jiang Hao pressed the trigger without hesitation.
Bang!
The shot rang out, and the sniper on the roof, his head bleeding, fell back.
With the sniper gone, the pressure on Ning Tao and Jiang Hao reduced.
Shoop! Shoop! Shoop!
Bullets rained down, and the last four militants on the ground made the final charge.
In Ning Tao’s eyes, they were just like dazzling lanterns–even when they hid behind trees, he knew what they were doing or preparing to do according to their innate auras, because whatever they did, their innate auras would change accordingly. For example, when they were about to shoot from behind a tree, their innate auras released by their waists and legs were stronger. He even knew that their muscles were building strength in advance. In his case, the enemy who shot him was really asking for death!
This was also the reason why Ning Tao had survived several sniper attacks. The sniper was lying on the roof, his innate aura completely exposed to the air. His innate aura would “foretell” before he adjusted the muzzle of the gun, or his fingers were ready to shoot!
After dodging a hail of bullets, Ning Tao suddenly put his arms around Jiang Hao’s waist and spun away from the cover of the tree trunk. He leaned forward and took Jiang Hao’s right arm in one direction.
“Shoot.”
Bang!
Another militant fell to the ground, still hit in the head.
After this shot, Ning Tao suddenly fell to the ground with Jiang Hao in his arms.
Shoop! Shoop! Shoop!
A volley of bullets flew over their heads.
Ning Tao suddenly stood up with Jiang Hao in his arms, took a step across, and moved her arm in one direction, saying, “Shoot.”
Bang!
Another militant was hit in the head and flopped to the ground.
The remaining two militants turned and ran to the lab.
Ning Tao took two quick steps with Jiang Hao still in his arms, spun, swung his arms, and said, “Shoot!”
Jiang Hao immediately pulled the trigger.
Another militant fell to the ground.
It was as if they were performing an elegant waltz in the forest instead of a shootout. Jiang Hao was not nervous at all now. Ning Tao, holding her in his arms, gave her a tremendous amount of courage and security. She shot and moved when Ning Tao told her to. At this moment, she felt that her body and soul were connected with Ning Tao’s as a whole. They were in one.
Smash!
The last militant broke a window and escaped into the lab.
Ning Tao released Jiang Hao’s waist and hands. “It’s a pity that the last one has escaped into the lab.”
The sense of unity suddenly disappeared, and a feeling of emptiness came to Jiang Hao, as if she had lost something important. But the distraction lasted only a second or two. She soon got into her proper state.
“There should be more than one person in the lab. Their commander should be also in there. You wait here for me while I get their night visions,” Jiang Hao said, stepping away.
“I want one, too,” said Ning Tao.
Jiang Hao stopped and asked, “Can’t you see them?”
Ning Tao accidentally bumped into Jiang Hao. He backed away and awkwardly said, “I’m sorry.”
“You don’t have to be so polite to me in such a situation?” Jiang Hao glared at Ning Tao. “I asked you, how did you see the militants?”
“I can’t see them. It’s just a technique of locating by sound,” Ning Tao explained.
“Locating by sound?” Jiang Hao had a look of surprise on her face and didn’t seem to believe it.
“I’ll tell you later. Aren’t you going to get the night vision?” Ning Tao changed the subject. He’d never been able to locate something by sound, but he couldn’t tell Jiang Hao that he could see a person’s innate aura and smell everything about a person.
Just then all the lights in the lab and street lamps came on.
As the lights came into the woods, Ning Tao and Jiang Hao could see everything again.
Jiang Hao’s eyes dropped a little, staring at a spot on Ning Tao. There looked as if a bamboo shoot was breaking out of the ground, or an angry middle finger challenging the woman who was looking at it with foul language.
Embarrassed, Ning Tao said, “Well, I’ve been holding my pee for a long time… Don’t you look at me like that?”
“You go pee and I’ll get one of their pistols. One pistol isn’t enough.” Jiang Hao turned and walked over to a corpse.
Ning Tao breathed a sigh of relief, but a helpless smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. In the fight just now, Jiang Hao straddled on him for a while, and he pressed on her for a while, and then they even hugged each other and performed a beautiful “waltz” amid a hail of bullets. As a virgin who had never been so close to a woman, how could he keep some part of his body from reacting?
After taking a few steps forward, Jiang Hao suddenly turned around and looked at Ning Tao.
Ning Tao threw out his hands with a serious look on his face.
“Come with me if you don’t pee,” Jiang Hao stated.
Ning Tao walked over to Jiang Hao. He was not holding on his pee. Now Jiang Hao seemed to know what was going on, but what could she do?
Jiang Hao took a low light night vision headset from a corpse and put it on her head. If the enemy turned off the switch again, or destroyed the circuit, she wouldn’t be in that passive situation again with this low light night vision. She then picked up a German HK M27 assault rifle from the body and found two magazine clips.
Ning Tao also went over to a corpse, reached over and took off the low-light night vision and the black headgear. A white face came into view. The dead man was very young, about 20 years old. Ning Tao then searched his pockets for anything to prove his identity, but nothing more than a piece of gum and a packet of Camel cigarettes.
“Come on, these guys are probably elite special forces from some country. They won’t have anything on them to prove their identity. It’s the same when I’m on a mission abroad. I’ll take nothing but what the mission requires,” Jiang Hao uttered.
This was kind of a hint to Ning Tao about what she really did. Ning Tao could almost rule out that she was a special forces soldier, so she could only be a secret agent. As for the police, he had long ruled it out. Could she be a cop, based on her horrific fighting skill on the battlefield?
“Do you want a long gun or a short one?” Jiang Hao inquired.
Ning Tao thought for a moment and said, “Give me the short one. I can’t use a short pistol well, let alone a long one.”
“It doesn’t matter to me.” Jiang Hao threw a pistol to Ning Tao.
Then Ning Tao followed Jiang Hao to the door of the lab.
The door that needed a security card to open was wide open. The lab was quiet, with no one inside.
Jiang Hao clung to the column capital beside the door, with a cautious look on her face. Then she beckoned Ning Tao to stand behind her and not expose himself.
“Have you forgotten my ability to locate by sound?” Ning Tao said, stepping through the door of the lab.
Jiang Hao paused for a moment, and then came out from behind the capital, stooping and catching up with Ning Tao.
