Chapter 3 - We're Poor, but Alchemist is a Rare Job
“Skill level up♪ You’ve reached Lv10. Your alchemy rank has risen to Rank D”
“My alchemy rank has risen to Rank D!? Not the number of alchemies?”
If I understand the announcement that flowed directly into my brain correctly, it means I can now do Rank D alchemy instead of just the lowest rank.
I can’t test it since I don’t have Rank D equipment…
Then, as if reading my mind, the announcement tells me something unbelievable.
“If you alchemize an additional Rank E equipment +9, it will evolve to Rank D”
“W-what does that mean? Evolve? The equipment?”
I’m flustered and talk to myself loudly.
I’ve never heard of equipment evolving.
Sure, there’s equipment that’s completely superior to the Soldier series that starts with the Soldier’s Gauntlet.
And even above that…
But those are things that drop in dungeons.
Basically, they were supposed to be unrelated, just with similar effects.
I look at the Soldier’s Gauntlet +9 on my right arm.
And also at the other Soldier’s Gauntlet I got today.
I had one more alchemy left out of the daily limit of 9.
“Sh-should I try it…”
And so, I chant “Alchemy!” as usual.
Usually, a message saying I can’t alchemize any further would flow into my brain, but today was different.
Enveloped in a soft light, the Soldier’s Gauntlet visibly changes shape.
And then the announcement flows:
“Alchemy successful. Soldier’s Gauntlet +9 has become Knight’s Gauntlet”
“Wh-whaaaaat!!!!????”
My shout echoes alone in the dark room.
I couldn’t help but yell.
Hearing my voice echo in the small room, I try to calm my excited heart.
“Could this be… is evolution the true ability of alchemists?”
What I saw was that Rank D equipment I’d only seen on TV.
This alone sells for nearly 100,000 yen.
It’s an item that only drops on the 11th floor and beyond in dungeons.
That equipment is now in my hand.
This alone is three months’ rent.
I heard myself gulp.
“If I sell it, I could have a large beef bowl every day, no, even with a soft-boiled egg on top…”
Having not eaten rice for a long time, I find myself wanting money, wanting rice, more than getting stronger.
But I shake my head vigorously as if to shake off that thought.
“No, no! This is a Rank D equipment I finally got! I need to use this to earn more”
And so I stand up.
Though I’m already battered, my body that’s gained hope is filled with energy like a fish in water.
“Nana, big brother might be able to earn money with this!”
I feel my chest swell with the possibilities of the alchemist job.
Then I tried on the Knight’s Gauntlet.
It’s not just my imagination, I really feel power overflowing.
Looking at the Knight’s Gauntlet, information is displayed.

“So this is the power of Rank D equipment…”
An increase of about twenty in power might not be enough to beat a muscular person who works out, but I still feel significantly stronger.
“At this rate, if I collect the Soldier series, completing the Knight series might not be just a dream?”
That day, I cut my exploration short due to being battered.
Now, I want to show this equipment to my sister.
I want to show her that she doesn’t need to worry about money.
Kenya, forgetting his tired body, runs towards the first floor of the dungeon.
He can’t stop feeling excited about gaining new power.
“There it is, the gate!”
And then, I found the blue gate to the first floor.
For moving between floors, we use these gates instead of stairs.
The blue gate is for going back one floor, the red gate is for going to the next floor.
And so I pass through the gate.
…
“Welcome back! Kenya!”
There, a beautiful, big-breasted woman with glasses was waiting.
