Chapter 1014: Fairytale
Chapter 1014: Fairytale
The sounds of sniffles rent the air around Tom and Lucy, mingling with the music from the string quartet which was still playing in the background.
This time even Harry didn't have anything witty to say, because he too was trying hard not to let his tears drop.
When it was Tom's turn, he took a deep breath, his hands trembling slightly as he held hers and Lucy reached out to wipe his tears.
"Jewel," Tom began, his voice low and unsteady. "My priceless Jewel. I don't know what I did to deserve you, but I promise to spend every day trying to be the man you deserve. You've shown me what love really means, and I can't imagine a future without you by my side. A world where you don't exist is one where I never want to be in. You have been my light, my love, my home, my everything. I never really believed in soulmates until I set my eyes on you, and knew without a doubt that you are my better half. I vow to love you with all that I am, to protect you with all that I have, and to remind you every single day how much you mean to me. You once said you were scared of losing your sight. If that day ever comes, of which I'm sure it won't, I promise to to be your eyes when you can't see. I promise to hold your hand through every dark night. I promise to be your legs when you can't walk. I won't walk through fires with you, Jewel, I will walk through it for you, bearing you in my arms. With my life, I promise to love you and every seed that comes from our union. I love you, Jewel, with everything within me. I love you today, I will love you even more tomorrow, and I'll cherish you forever."
By the time he finished, there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd, and even Jade kept sniffling as she gently dried Lucy's tears.
The officiant smiled. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride."
Tom didn't wait. He pulled Lucy close, cradling her face with all the love and passion he felt as their lips met. The crowd erupted into cheers and applause, but the world blurred into a haze of happiness for the couple.
As they walked back down the aisle hand in hand, petals rained down on them, their laughter mingling with the music.
At the reception, held under a glass tent adorned with twinkling fairy lights, Harry gave his best man speech.
"I feel really excited today," Harry said, looking from Tom to Lucy, "I'm because I saw how much Tom made a fool of himself to win Lucy's heart." Laughter rippled through the crowd and even Tom was in too much of a good mood to get upset.
"When everyone looks at them, I'm sure all you see is the spark and chemistry between them. But I tell you, this love here has weathered its fair share of storms. I tell you, this love here is patient. It is caring and kind. I'm not a religious man, but it brings to my mind a scripture I love in the Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 13. No, I'm not going to recite it. If you must know what it says, go browse it up yourself," Harry said, making them all laugh.
"I must say I'm in awe of you Lucy. My very beautiful and graceful cousin. No woman could be perfect for Tom as you. Thank you, Lucy. You've made my best friend happier than I've ever seen him. Here's to a lifetime of all the love in the world. Cheers!" Harry said, raising his glass to Lucy, and both her and Tom raised theirs in acknowledgment.
Jade followed with her speech, "I never thought I'd be privileged to do this," Jade said with a wide smile as she gazed at Lucy, "I have Sony's note here. She's busy with her baby, so I'm going to read her note and then chip in my bit."
"To Tom, thank you. Thank you for being the wonderful man who brought Lucy out of her shell. Lucy swore she was never going to get married. Seeing her walk down the aisle today looking so radiantly beautiful is a dream come true. Thank you for the role you played in her healing. Thank you for loving her the way you do. Thank you for being patient with her. Thank you for giving best friend the wings she needed to fly so high. And to you, Lu, I'm so proud of you. Thank you for healing. I wish you both a lifetime of bliss. May all your ups and downs only be between the sheets. Cheers," Jade read, and everyone laughed at the last line, including Lucy who sniffled as she brushed off her tears.
"Now I'll add my bit," Jade said as she folded the paper, "I'm not sure everyone else in the family realizes it, but our family got closer after Lucy came into the picture," Jade said, smiling at Lucy.
"I'm not saying we weren't close. We were more the type that got along when we were together but never did much to keep in touch because we were too busy with our lives. But thanks to Tom needing advice on how to chase Lucy, he reached out more often than usual to Bryan and I," Jade said, making everyone laugh.
"And to compare notes of the advice we gave Tom, Bryan and I had to also communicate more often," Jade said, and their parents laughed. "Lucy is really special... as is my brother. They're two special people, and their love is an inspiration to me and everyone close enough and privileged to witness it. So, let's raise our glasses to the power couple. Here's to Tom and Lucy. May you love be sweet always. Cheers."
Later, as Tom and Lucy shared their first dance to "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran, the world seemed to fall away again. The song was soft and slow, and they moved as if no one else was in the
room.
"I love you," Tom whispered, rubbing his nose against hers, his arms wrapped protectively around her waist.
"I love you too," Lucy replied softly.
The guests watched in awe, knowing they were witnessing a love story straight out of a fairytale, and Tom and Lucy gazed at each other knowing they were living their fairytale.
