Chapter 100: Chapter 77.1 : Refuse to Join!!
By now, Ian, known as the "Ian the Skyfire," was a name that had echoed throughout the world.
The young monster, the future strongest.
Yes, the strongest.
At such a young age, possessing such terrifying power, who could doubt that once he grew older, he would undoubtedly take the strongest position from either his teacher or Whitebeard himself?
That's what the people of the world thought.
So, the moment the fallen Navy officer, Diez Barrels, recognized Ian, he fell into despair. His body trembled with fear, his teeth clattering uncontrollably, yet he couldn't even speak a single word.
What could he do when faced with a monster like Ian of the Beasts Pirates? Was there anything other than waiting for his inevitable death?
Drake, too, was frozen in place.
A pirate, not a navy officer? And from the Beasts Pirates, no less?
How could this be?
Ian, however, found it quite interesting.
Is this fate?
The future member of the Tobiroppo (Flying Six), Drake, was meeting him here, of all places.
In the original timeline, this guy was an undercover agent sent by the Navy to infiltrate the Beasts Pirates, but right now, he had not yet been rescued by the Navy, and the only connection to the Navy was that his father had once served in it.
Come to think of it, Drake should be a few years older than him, yet why did he look younger?
In the original timeline, his appearance was quite intimidating.
Another Koby, huh? Rapid growth in a short time.
"Yamato, what do you think?" Ian asked with a curious smile. "About this guy's request?"
"Huh? This guy?" Yamato carefully looked Drake up and down before quickly dismissing him, "He's so weak."
"Seems that way, doesn't it?" Ian didn't deny Yamato's statement.
In fact, Yamato's assessment was spot on.
Drake was incredibly skinny. Not only was he weaker than other pirates of his age, but even compared to typical eleven- or twelve-year-olds who were physically active, his aura seemed very average.
But.
This guy certainly had potential.
He could be considered one of the few promising young people among the new generation of the Navy's ranks.
After all, he was one of the future candidates for the Tobiroppo, so his potential was not to be underestimated.
"But, they've already made the request."
Ian said with a smile, "If we don't agree, it might be a little impolite, don't you think?"
"Huh?"
Yamato was stunned. "Is that so?"
Barrels, who had been waiting for death with his eyes closed, suddenly opened them wide.
He stared at his foolish son in disbelief.
No way!
Drake! What kind of luck are you having?!
"That's great! Drake!"
Barrels screamed, his voice high-pitched like a eunuch's. "It's your fortune to have Ian-sama notice you! Hurry up and thank him properly!"
Like a dog, he knelt on the ground, struggling to crawl forward, raising his head with exaggerated reverence as if looking up to a deity. "Ian-sama! I am deeply grateful for your favor! I thank you on behalf of my foolish son!"
"…"
Drake looked at the man kneeling beside him, his pupils trembling.
It was humiliation.
Once again, Drake felt a profound sense of humiliation for being the son of this man.
Where did that upright father go?
How could you so casually bow to a young man who's even younger than your own son?
Now, all I see is a dog.
"Hurry, kneel before Ian-sama, Drake!"
Barrels carefully raised himself, placing a hand on Drake's shoulder, trying to force him to kneel and bow as well. "Thank him for his kindness!"
But Drake simply stood tall, unmoving.
His face was ashen, his heart dry and withered, but he refused to kneel.
Damn brat!! What are you doing?! This is my only chance to survive!!
Barrels raged inwardly, cursing, *Kneel down, damn it! At least do it for the man who gave you your life!!*
Drake finally turned his head to look at his father.
Barrels's facial muscles twitched, his eyes bloodshot. In Drake's gaze, he saw excitement, joy, and frustration.
Then…
"Shut up! You bastard!!"
Drake suddenly exploded. With all his strength, his thin body swung a fist, smashing it into Barrels's face, knocking his old father to the ground. The words that had been hidden deep inside him finally burst out.
"I am Drake, who wants to join the Navy! Not the Drake who wants to be a pirate!"
Barrels was momentarily stunned, then instinctively roared in anger, "Dra—"
He didn't even manage to finish Drake's name. Using every ounce of strength, Drake screamed hoarsely at Ian, "I will never join you!"
Pirates are evil.
And the Beast Pirates are the epitome of evil, the true army of wickedness.
Drake knew that refusing meant death.
But even if it meant death, he did not want to ally with these people!
He did not want to live like his father, like a dog, so lowly.
"Oh! This guy is kind of interesting!"
Yamato began clapping her hands. "Haha, I'd love to beat up Dad like that!"
