Chapter 9: Interrogation II

POV Admiral Aokiji (Kuzan)

When he saw his superior leave the room following the announcement made by the soldier earlier, Kuzan did the same. His mission was to prepare the defense of Marineford following the announcement of the execution of Ace, the Fire Fist. Any information was valuable.

Once the door of the interrogation room closed, the three men moved to the adjoining room where Garp and Kizaru were waiting for them. They were still staring at the girl who remained in the other room while chatting about her. The entrance of the three men visibly interrupted the conversation, as they instinctively gathered around their superior.

Seeing that the soldier hesitated to speak, Aokiji encouraged him to start.

Soldier: "Gentlemen, as I said, we have received information regarding Whitebeard's crew. Our spy contacted us less than 15 minutes ago, and the news is rather disturbing. According to him, the Whitebeard Pirates are all gathering as we speak. Apparently, all the fleet commanders have assembled with their crews, forming a potential army of 1,600 men."

Kizaru: "Was he able to give us the crew's location?"

Soldier: "Unfortunately, no. We were interrupted before he could transmit the position to us. However, we know that they will soon be moving toward Marineford. I don't have any other information at this time."

Sengoku: "Alright, thank you, soldier. You may be dismissed."

As soon as he received the order to leave, the soldier turned around and exited the room without asking for permission to rest, visibly intimidated by the presence of so many high-ranking officers.

Aokiji made a mental note of the information. The most important detail was the number of pirates gathered. Admittedly, during the meetings, they had planned to deploy 100,000 soldiers to protect the base during the execution. However, a single member of Whitebeard's crew was equivalent to fifty well-trained soldiers. And above all, there was Whitebeard himself, the man considered the strongest in the world. This was why Aokiji had requested to contact the Warlords so that the execution could proceed without interruption.

After a brief silence, Aokiji saw Sengoku walk to the window to observe the blonde girl before suddenly turning around.

Sengoku: "Okay, we'll discuss the Whitebeard issue at the strategy meeting later. For now, I would like to have your first impressions of this child."

Kizaru was the first to speak. He wanted to explain in detail his encounter with the young girl calling herself Tanya. As for the analysis of her behavior during the interrogation, it was vague and lacked precision.

This did not surprise Aokiji, as he knew his counterpart very well. Theoretical and analytical approaches did not particularly interest Kizaru. Despite appearances, he was a man of action, which was why he insisted on the child's combat potential.

"As for me," Aokiji continued, "if we put aside her fighting skills, I find the way she expresses herself, as well as the answers she gave us, quite curious."

Kuzan let a short silence hang. He took the opportunity to pull out a chair that was stored under the table and sat down, leaning on the table before continuing.

"I find it strange that she has no memory of anything before meeting Kizaru, apart from this orphanage story. I feel like she's hiding something from us.

On top of that, what amazes me the most is her lack of knowledge about the world, especially when it comes to Devil Fruits. I agree that in some places in this world, Devil Fruits are just legends to scare children. But in her case, she knows absolutely nothing. And I don't think she lied to us about it—her surprise seemed sincere."

Garp: "You guys are overthinking this. She's just a little stronger than the average kid. She must be a little younger than the kids I'm training right now. Ah Ah Ah."

Sengoku: "Aokiji is right, Garp. There's something odd about her. She's a child, there's no doubt about it, but when I questioned her, I felt like I was talking to an adult. The way she responded, her gaze, the lack of innocence in her eyes... I feel like everything she says is carefully thought out and calculated… All of this puzzles me."

None of them knew how to handle this situation. Kuzan, on the other hand, did not want to repeat the events that had transpired on Ohara with Nico Robin, the so-called "demon child." Come to think of it, it had already been twenty years since she became an enemy of the World Government.

"So the question is: what do we do with her?" asked the Fleet Admiral. "We can't just let that kid go free."

Sengoku: "She is far too dangerous. At this time, we don't know the origin of her powers or even how they work. All we know is that they're probably not related to Devil Fruits, Haki, or even the Six Powers.

Imagine if she fell into the wrong hands and they managed to learn from her abilities. That could be very dangerous for our troops.

So, we're going to continue questioning her before the meeting starts so we can figure out what to do with her."

Once the instructions were given, Aokiji saw his leader heading for the exit to enter the next room. He didn't need to be asked to follow.

POV Tanya Degurechaff

Tanya was getting impatient. She had been held captive in that chair for hours. The possibility of cutting the chain with her mage blade was becoming more and more tempting, despite the risks involved. But given the situation, it was still acceptable. She could rely on her training in first aid, learned during her second life, in case the wound bled too much.

By carefully shaping the blade, she could surely limit the injury. Before doing anything, Tanya listened carefully to make sure no one was approaching her position. She also looked toward the glass; the man who had been watching her earlier no longer seemed to be there.

She didn't want to resort to this, but she would probably end up in a cell for the rest of her life. In her previous life, attacking a military officer would result in life imprisonment or even a firing squad.

Tanya gritted her teeth, bracing herself for a stabbing pain in her sides, but was interrupted by the entrance of the two men she had seen earlier. They returned to their original positions.

"They're going to interrogate me again," Tanya sighed internally. "I'll offer them my services directly. If it can save me from prison, it's worth a try. I just have to wait for the right moment."

Sengoku: "Alright, girl, let's start again. We still have a few questions for you."

Tanya: "Alright, I'm listening."

Sengoku: "What are your powers? How do they work? How did you learn to master them?"

The little blonde had expected these questions, but not in such a direct manner. She didn't want to answer them. Keeping her powers secret gave her an advantage. Knowing an opponent's abilities allows for the preparation of countermeasures, and in a world where she had no allies, that was dangerous.

"If he's asking me so many questions about my abilities, that must mean I'm the only mage he knows in this world," Tanya concluded with a slight smirk.

"Look," Tanya began, "I don't know you, and for my safety, I won't reveal my abilities. I am fully aware that you consider me a threat. Otherwise, you wouldn't have taken me to your headquarters in chains for nearly a day.

Therefore, I propose a solution that could suit everyone: I would like to join the ranks of the Marines."

After a long sigh and a nod, as if convincing himself, Sengoku looked Tanya in the eyes and finally said, "Alright."

"YAAAAY, I did it! My elocution amazes me."

Sengoku: "However, your place in the Marines will be determined by your power, which will be evaluated in a combat test tonight before sunset. Be at the training grounds. Do not be late."

Tanya: "Yes, sir."
