One Piece: Starting in God Valley as a Slave

Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Robin’s Tragic Life

Robin's stomach let out a loud growl as she read, prompting her to quickly clutch it in embarrassment. Her small face turned visibly red as she glanced around.

The better her uncle's family ate, the less food Robin had. Today, she had only managed a bowl of thin porridge in the morning.

Her stomach growled again, louder this time. Robin hurriedly put the book back on the bookshelf and, after saying a quick word to Clover, ran outside in a panic.

She eventually reached a small forest, stopping under a large tree. The tree bore small, peach-like pink fruits. However, the larger ones had already been picked.

Robin, being too short to reach the fruits, looked up at them longingly. Crossing her arms over her chest, she closed her eyes. Suddenly, pink petals began to float around her.

In a soft voice, she murmured,

"Dos Fleur: Grab."

Two slender arms sprouted from the tree's branch, plucking two fruits and tossing them down to her.

The fruits landed near Robin's feet. Her face was pale, and she stumbled slightly as she bent to pick them up. Using her powers was still a strain for her malnourished body. After all, she was just a five-year-old girl.

(Because of Spandam's particular interest, Olvia had been exposed earlier than in the original timeline, leading the Ohara Incident to occur three years ahead of schedule.)

Robin bit into one of the fruits, barely larger than her small fist. Its taste was sour and unpleasant, but she continued eating, finishing both fruits quickly, leaving only the pits.

Compared to this, she had eaten far worse before. The first time she came to this forest looking for food, she found a strange, flower-shaped fruit on the ground. Starving and desperate, she ate it without hesitation. The taste had been so vile that the memory of it still made her want to retch.

From that moment on, Robin was labeled a "monster" by outsiders. Her already difficult life became even harder.

Thinking about her experiences over the past two years, Robin pouted and leaned against the tree, hugging her knees. She whispered softly,

"Mom... when will you come back to see me?"

Robin's memories of her mother, Nico Olvia, were vague. Olvia had left to sail the seas when Robin was just two years old. But even so, whenever Robin felt sad or wronged, she always thought of her mother.

Unbeknownst to Robin, Olvia was nearby, watching her from behind a cluster of trees.

Tears streamed down Olvia's face as she silently gazed at her daughter. Her mouth was covered by a strange, writhing black cloth, preventing her from speaking.

Beneath Olvia's feet, a dark mass rooted her to the spot. She turned her head toward Carl, her captor, eyes full of silent pleading.

Carl, however, only smiled and said,

"See? This is the life your daughter leads now. Think carefully about what your actions have achieved."

Olvia trembled and shut her eyes tightly as tears flowed down her cheeks.

Carl was unmoved. He glanced at Robin, who had risen and was heading out of the forest. He then murmured,

"Alright, it's time for you to see the next scene."

With that, Carl placed a hand on Olvia's shoulder. In an instant, the two vanished.

Robin returned to her uncle's house and paused at the door. The large yellow dog tied outside ignored her, entirely focused on the chicken leg in its bowl.

She smiled wryly before stepping inside.

Her uncle lounged at the table, picking his teeth with a toothpick. Her cousin had likely gone out to play, and her aunt was cleaning the table while complaining loudly.

"Honestly! I have to clean up after everyone else eats! Where did Robin run off to now?"

Her uncle spat out a bit of food and replied casually,

"Where else? Probably off reading under that old tree again. Just like her deadbeat parents, always with her nose in a book."

"Hmph!" her aunt snorted. "I hear her mom's not long for this world. Did you know? She's been declared wanted by the World Government!"

"What?!" Her uncle flinched, the toothpick jabbing into his gum and drawing blood. Cursing under his breath, he added nervously,

"When did this happen? Damn it, will this drag us into trouble?"

"I wouldn't be surprised! That's why I've been saying we should kick her out sooner rather than later. She's nothing but a freeloader!"

"Hey, now, she's still my niece..." her uncle muttered awkwardly.

His wife glared at him with disdain.

"Oh, please! The only reason you kept her around is because her mom left you that big wad of cash when she left. Are you hoping for another payout when she comes back?"

Caught off guard, her uncle gave an awkward laugh.

"Well, you do know me best, dear!"

Before they could continue, Robin appeared in the doorway. Her aunt started at the sight of her, then snapped,

"Back already? Can't you at least say something instead of lurking there like a ghost?"

Usually, Robin would lower her head and apologize. This time, she didn't. She stared at her aunt and asked,

"What did you say? My mom... she's been declared wanted?"

Her aunt, irritated by Robin's lack of submission, raised her voice.

"So what if she has? How dare you eavesdrop on adults?! No dinner for you tonight!"

Robin ignored her, standing still for a moment before suddenly running outside.

She didn't get far before her aunt dragged her back into the house and threw her onto the floor.

"You're not going anywhere until you clean up that mess!"

Robin, sitting on the ground, bit her lip hard, tears streaming down her face. Her aunt, unbothered, raised a hand to slap her.

At that moment, black tendrils surged into the room, enveloping the entire house, furniture, and all.

In the next second, everything—house, furniture, and people—vanished without a trace.
