Chapter 223: Chapter 223: Borsalino’s Deadly Intent
After returning to Marineford, Carl first went to report his mission to Kong. After all, the chaos he caused on Cake Island had already become the talk of the world.
Kong listened to the details of the events and nodded in satisfaction.
"Good work. No matter what Roger is planning, the Navy must not let him succeed!"
Carl smiled faintly, though he thought to himself: By now, Roger is likely on his way to Laugh Tale.
His eyes grew sharp as he contemplated.
"Roger, you better move fast. The head of the Pirate King... I'll claim it for myself!"
After reporting to Kong, Carl spent a few leisurely days in Marineford with Lucia and Ginny. One day, while sitting in his office, he picked up a Den Den Mushi and made a call.
The receiver answered almost immediately, and a sultry voice came through.
"Master, you finally remembered me. I thought you'd forgotten about me."
Carl chuckled.
"Stussy, how could I forget you? How's your work going in CP0?"
"With you supporting me, everything is going smoothly. I'm even up for a promotion soon~."
"Excellent. That speaks to your abilities. I have a major lead for you."
"Forget the promotion. I'd rather return to your side soon."
"Don't worry. That time will come. This lead should secure you multiple ranks in CP0. Report to your superiors that you've uncovered evidence suggesting that Ohara scholars, including Nico Olvia, are studying forbidden history."
There was a brief pause on the other end before Stussy spoke softly.
"My master, this is an incredible lead. Do you have any proof?"
"No proof is necessary. Just report it. Leave the rest to them."
"Understood, Master. I'll handle it. And thank you. Next time we meet, I'll make sure to serve you well~."
"I look forward to it."
A kissing sound came from the Den Den Mushi before Carl hung up, leaning back in his chair with a satisfied smirk.
The next day, the World Government issued an urgent directive. This time, there wasn't even a formal notice—one of the Five Elders called Kong directly, ordering him to capture Nico Olvia and her fellow scholars immediately. If they resisted, they were to be executed on the spot.
The charges? "Intent to destroy the world."
Kong didn't fully understand how a group of scholars could possess such power, but the unprecedented seriousness of the Five Elders left no room for doubt. He quickly deployed a fleet to hunt them down.
With the Navy's vast resources, finding a single ship on the seas wasn't a difficult task. However, it was Ginny who pinpointed Olvia's exact location. Her innate talent for communication signals was unmatched, a skill she had already demonstrated during the events at the Valley of Gods.
Within a day, Nico Olvia and 33 scholars were captured. The ones who apprehended them? Borsalino and Kuma.
The two had been idly traveling together when they happened upon the scholars' ship. Using Kuma's Paw-Paw Fruit ability, they reached the location in an instant, needing no fleet support.
When captured, Olvia and her group didn't resist, as if they had already accepted their fate. It was likely because Olvia recognized her captors—Kuma and the unmistakable Borsalino.
As they were being restrained, Olvia suddenly asked Borsalino,
"Where's the Black Dragon? Is he coming for me too?"
Borsalino paused in surprise, his Den Den Mushi halfway to his lips. Frowning, he asked,
"You know Carl?"
Olvia nodded lightly.
"We've met."
Her confirmation deepened Borsalino's frown. He stepped away, leaving Kuma to guard the prisoners, and used a secondary Den Den Mushi to contact Carl.
The moment Carl answered, Borsalino's voice was sharp.
"Carl, that woman, Nico Olvia, is in my custody."
Carl blinked, momentarily taken aback, before chuckling.
"Congratulations, Borsalino. That's a significant accomplishment!"
But Borsalino's tone remained unusually serious.
"Carl, did you have dealings with her? Tell me the truth."
Carl hesitated briefly before answering honestly,
"We've had contact, but—"
"Good! That's all I needed to know."
Borsalino's voice carried unmistakable killing intent. Carl was stunned and quickly pressed,
"Wait! What do you mean by that?"
"I'm executing them immediately," Borsalino declared firmly.
"Wait, what? Did they resist?"
"No. They've been compliant the entire time."
Carl's mind raced. The usually laid-back Borsalino now sounded more like Akainu. He exclaimed,
"Then why kill them? Bringing them in alive is a bigger merit!"
Borsalino paused, then spoke gravely.
"Carl, you don't understand. Anyone tied to Olvia will be implicated. Even as an Admiral, you could be dragged into this mess. Don't worry—only Kuma and I know. Leave it to me."
"Stop! Don't act rashly!"
