Chapter 48: Chapter 48

Kizaru and Aokiji rushed to meet them. Akainu had just finished executing a deserter who attempted to escape and was now returning. The future hero of the fleet, Coby, this time accompanied by Hellomepo, wanted to leave the battlefield and flee, but he was frightened by the ruthless way Akainu punished deserters and returned.

Sal and two others immediately clashed with the two admirals, which allowed Marco and Diamond Joz to free up their efforts and lead the pirates in an attack on the defensive line of the naval port.

Aokiji was the first to attack Rayleigh with an ice spear, but, encountering the impenetrable defense of his sword, he immediately created a massive ice bird to defeat his opponent.

"Wherever the Bird flies, everything turns to ice." Rayleigh, facing the attack, looked at his opponent with a serious expression. There was nowhere to retreat.

The long sword in Rayleigh's hand turned red and lunged at Aokiji. The fact that the Flying Bird tried to stand in the way was not a hindrance—it was cut in half, and Rayleigh's sword already reached Aokiji.

Aokiji's pupils slightly contracted, his palm released an icy stream, and he transitioned into his elemental state in advance to withstand his opponent's strike.

— Bang...

Rayleigh's skilled swordsmanship pushed the power of the Sword of the Admiral to its limit. The ice barrier shattered like a broken toy, and the strongest blow smashed Aokiji into pieces of ice, scattering them around the area.

When Aokiji emerged from his elemental state, his clothing was just slightly creased.

Rayleigh frowned even more, studying his opponent carefully, trying to find a weakness.

An attack unleashed with full force proved ineffective. The opponent, using Observation Haki, foresaw the future and transitioned into elemental form in advance. The damage inflicted by Rayleigh was minimized.

When Aokiji, together with Garp, hunted them, he gave this talented young man the highest praise. Now, twenty-two years later, upon meeting him, he didn't know where to begin.

— Garp's student... Has he really become this strong?

— Indeed. Dark king Rayleigh—he's already 76, yet remains incredibly powerful. My generation can only blush in comparison.

Rayleigh sighed inwardly, and his sword ceased glowing red, returning to black. Against the new generation of admirals, he lacked the strength for a swift victory. He had to rely on his vast experience and search for vulnerabilities in a prolonged battle. He was too old to use Armament Haki to bind his opponent.

The clash continued. Ice and sword strikes prevented anyone from getting close. It was even more terrifying than the confrontation between Diamond Jozu and Aokiji.

At the same time, Kizrau was struggling in the battle with Sal. While he could use the abilities of the "Glow Fruit" to seize the initiative, the light beam was easily circumvented, and the powerful "Yasakani no Magatama" attack was reflected back by Armament Haki. It was almost as if his own "Glow Fruit" struck him.

Kizrau had no choice but to engage in close combat, but Sal wouldn't give him a chance. He used Armament Haki, akin to that of Ace, to powerfully bind Kizrau, and the terrifying leak of Haki affected several unfortunate ones nearby. Then Sal rushed again towards the execution site, seemingly determined to save Ace at all costs.

Kizrau was not a powerhouse. Against the formidable Will, he could only temporarily dodge blows and defend himself to avoid injury. The fight was challenging for him.

Sal swiftly crossed the tower and broke into the inner harbor. Kizrau realized that this couldn't go on—his enemy was getting closer to the execution site.

— I'm putting him under too much pressure. Could you spare me a little bit of your attention?

First, Kizrau used several laser beams to influence Sal's movement and then instantly transported himself to the enemy, using "Yasakani no Magatama," and attacked with a lightning-fast kick.

Sal abruptly turned, looking at Kizrau. The smile in his eyes resembled a victorious gesture, instantly giving Kizrau a bad feeling.

The subsequent events confirmed his suspicions. A chain appeared out of nowhere, tightly enveloping Kizrau and began to constrict, wrapping around his entire body. Even his ability to transition into an elemental state was at risk.

Kizrau struggled desperately in confusion. The Heavenly Chain tightened, emitting a thunderous metallic clamor, and eventually snapped. The whole operation took less than 0.3 seconds, but it was enough time for the enemy to deliver a fatal blow. Sal's Armament Haki flared, his pupils turned red, and with one hand, he grabbed Ace and prepared to strike, a red-black lightning sparking in his blade.

— Ha-ha, goodbye, Kizrau.

— "Divine Evasion."

Sengoku, who had been closely observing the battle, instantly realized something was amiss, but it was too late to warn.

In Kizrau's eyes, Ace's pupils expanded. The seemingly simple strike delivered by Sal appeared extremely dangerous to him. The black-red lightning threw Kizrau back hundreds of meters, destroying several buildings and embedding him into the thick wall of a tower.

When Kizrau reappeared before everyone, he looked extremely disheartened. Since the war, he had never been this beaten. A long sword wound adorned his chest, which was stopped with great difficulty, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

— I was careless. It turns out he had been waiting for the opportunity I presented to him all along.

Had he not tried to intercept him, even if he got caught in the chain trap again, he was confident he wouldn't have been injured this severely. Currently, they didn't greatly hinder his ability to fight, but they noticeably diminished his combat effectiveness.

Yes, he had sustained moderate injuries, neither severe nor minor. The pain made the wounds feel heavier.

— How could this happen?

— Admiral Kizrau was injured?

The marines buzzed around. The Marines, having lost their fighting spirit, retreated before Whitebeard's pirates.

The outcome of Sal and Kizrau's clash didn't fully satisfy the marines. In their minds, an Admiral, akin to Optimus Prime, had been heavily injured.

Of course, Kizrau's injuries weren't as serious as the Marines imagined, but his clothes were drenched in blood, and the persistent wounds made everyone fear the worst.

The sight of the injured Kizrau was broadcast live via Den Den Mushi, causing shock worldwide.

[Constitution: Peak (general) Blessing in process]

Leveling up makes the master's constitution equal to that of a true general. The last of the three attributes remaining is agility, which should also soon reach the level of a general. If all three attributes reach the level of a general, then solely from a physical standpoint, the master will be a strong general. The current three admirals are not universal generals. Based on observations of Kizrau, his constitution has not yet reached the level of a general.
