One Piece: My code name is Green Bull

Chapter 81: A Foreboding Feeling

"Finally, we're out of that wretched place!"

Gaji sprawled out on the deck without a care, loudly complaining.

Spending over ten days in Rhodes Kingdom had frustrated not only Jon but also everyone else.

Not only did they have to pay for their own expenses, but they had to sleep on the warship every night—who could tolerate that?

To make things worse, Rhodes Kingdom's desserts were absolutely exquisite. Many of them had become addicted, spending a fortune just to buy more.

Gaji, being the biggest eater, had spent the most money—which explained his current frustration.

"Jon, are we heading straight back to G-1, or do we have another mission?"

Hearing Gaji's question, Jon replied:

"Vice Admiral Tsuru didn't give us any new orders, nor did she set a strict return deadline. Why? Do you have something in mind?"

Gaji grinned.

"I spent most of my savings these past few days—I need to make that money back. Let's go hunt some pirates!"

"Hunting pirates? I'm in!"

Nion immediately perked up.

During the battle at Rhodes Kingdom, he hadn't had enough of a fight and still had pent-up frustration.

So when Gaji suggested hunting pirates, he enthusiastically agreed.

However, not everyone was on board.

As expected, the cautious and pragmatic Pemberton was the first to object.

"I don't think that's a good idea. This is the New World, not the first half of the Grand Line. The pirates here are on a completely different level. Many of them are absolute monsters. We don't have the strength to be taking such risks."

"Pemberton, can you stop being such a coward?"

Gaji snapped, clearly annoyed.

"We're Marines! Our job is to take down pirates! What, are we supposed to sit around at base all day?"

Pemberton coldly retorted,

"There's a difference between fighting pirates and charging in blindly. If you act without intelligence and strategy, you're just being reckless."

"Who says I wouldn't use strategy? Sure, the New World is full of monsters, but there are plenty of weaker pirate crews too. We can just avoid the strong ones and take down the weaker ones."

"And you think pirates are just standing around waiting for you to pick and choose? If it were that easy, Fleet Admiral Sengoku and the others would have wiped out piracy a long time ago!"

"You just love arguing with me, don't you?"

"I'm just stopping you from getting yourself killed."

The argument escalated quickly.

At first, Gaji was lying on the deck, but now he had jumped to his feet, standing face-to-face with Pemberton, both glaring at each other.

Even though Gaji was the deputy commander of this mission, Pemberton was personally brought along by Jon and held an equal rank.

Neither was willing to back down.

Jon sighed in exasperation.

He was the commanding officer, but these two were already at each other's throats before he had even said a word.

Just as he was about to intervene, they both turned to him at the same time.

"Jon, you decide!"

"Uh…"

Now that both sides had cornered him, Jon had no choice but to come up with a compromise.

"How about this? We take a different route back to G-1.

If we run into pirates along the way, we'll engage them.

If we don't, we just return to base. How's that?"

"Hmm…"

Gaji and Pemberton both frowned at first, but soon nodded in agreement.

"Alright, that works."

Gaji figured that the journey was long enough that they were bound to encounter pirates.

Pemberton, on the other hand, believed that the ocean was vast and the chances of repeatedly encountering pirates were low.

Each thought they were getting what they wanted.

Jon sighed in relief.

Being a leader wasn't easy.

If he had been a dictator, things would be simple.

But since he wasn't, he had to consider everyone's opinions, which was far more challenging.

"Jon, are you sure it's okay to change course like this?"

Gion voiced her concerns.

"Even with a Log Pose, we might end up taking a much longer route."

Jon shrugged.

"So what? We're not in a rush, and G-1 isn't desperate for us to return right away."

To him, taking a detour wasn't a big deal.

With a Log Pose, they could always find their way back.

At worst, it would just take more time, which he didn't mind.

Since Jon had made his decision, the others had no objections.

The warship altered its course and set sail in a new direction.

Two Days Later…

Despite their detour, things had been unexpectedly quiet—not a single pirate encounter.

"Did all the pirates in the New World drop dead or something? Why haven't we run into a single one?"

Gaji grumbled in frustration.

He had been eager to capture pirates and earn some rewards, but so far, nothing.

His disappointment was obvious.

Meanwhile, Pemberton was secretly relieved.

Unlike Gaji, he valued safety over profit.

No pirate encounters meant less risk, which suited him just fine.

"Jon, what's wrong?"

Gion suddenly noticed that Jon, who was standing at the bow of the ship, looked unsettled.

She walked over and asked, puzzled.

"Huff…"

Jon exhaled deeply, his expression strange.

"I don't know why… but I suddenly have this uneasy feeling, like something bad is about to happen."

"Something bad?"

Gion was even more confused.

She glanced around the ship.

The sea was calm.

The sky was clear.

There were no enemy ships, no bad weather—nothing out of the ordinary.

"Are you just tired?"

Jon's face remained serious.

If he were in a normal world, he might have ignored it.

But in the One Piece world, sudden feelings like this could mean something significant.

"Gion, tell everyone to stay alert. Better safe than sorry."

Even though she wasn't convinced, Gion nodded.

"Alright, I'll warn the crew to stay on guard."

She left to spread the word.

As Jon watched her leave, he muttered to himself:

"I wonder if this is just a gut feeling… or if it falls under Observation Haki's abilities."

Observation Haki could predict the future.

But what he was feeling…

He wasn't sure if it qualified as that.

Ever since childhood, Jon had awakened Observation Haki naturally.

However, a few years ago, he discovered that his version of it had a unique ability.

This was the same ability he had used against Katakuri.

Unlike normal Observation Haki, Jon could speak directly into an opponent's ears—as if whispering inside their mind.

It was an ability that no one else could hear, making it impossible to ignore.

This was what had thrown Katakuri off balance, ultimately leading to his defeat.

Compared to seeing the future or hearing all things, Jon wasn't sure if his ability was better or worse.

But he knew that if he developed it properly, it would become incredibly powerful.

It was like telepathy—perfect for covert communication and battlefield tactics.

Since Observation Haki had so many variations, Jon still wasn't sure about its full scope.

But one thing was clear—

This sudden feeling of unease wasn't something he could ignore.
