One Piece: My code name is Green Bull

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: South Blue Sea, Jon

Jon sat on a rock near the rear of the base, gazing at the distant ocean, lost in thought.

"Seventeen years."

He sighed quietly. It had been seventeen years since he came to this world. Although he'd adapted, whenever he had a quiet moment, he still thought back to his old world.

"Of all the places, why did I end up in the One Piece world? And without a system or any cheat skills. Luckily, I was born into a decent family; if I'd been a commoner, I might not have survived until now."

Crossing over wasn't something Jon feared; after all, in his original world, stories about reincarnation and transmigration had become commonplace. The fact that he himself had transmigrated wasn't too hard to accept.

What frustrated him, though, was that others who transmigrated usually had systems or special cheats. Yet here he was, seventeen years in, without a system or a wise mentor.

If there was anything unique about him, it was that he'd awakened Haki from a young age.

Observation Haki.

Perhaps it was because he retained memories from his previous life, which made his mental strength unusually high. From a young age, his hearing was sharper than normal, and he had an exceptional sense of awareness and sensitivity.

When he realized he was in the One Piece world, Jon understood that this ability was the Observation Haki, one of the three main Haki types in the One Piece universe.

However, unlike those who developed Observation Haki through training, Jon's ability was innate.

This was his one consolation. He didn't have a system, but at least he had a bit of an edge.

In this life, Jon had been lucky enough to be born in the South Blue. His father was a colonel in the South Blue's Navy branch and the commander of this base—a prestigious background for this region.

Lyons Jon—this was his name in this life.

Born into a Navy family, Jon received an excellent education from a young age. Combined with the mentality of an adult, he trained even harder, becoming far stronger than others his age.

At the very least, in the 47th Branch, he had no peers among his age group. His strength was outstanding even among the branch's Navy soldiers.

However, knowing how dangerous the One Piece world could be, he rarely left the base, preferring to bide his time until he felt strong enough to face the world beyond.

Though he didn't leave the base much, having a father who was the branch commander meant he still learned a lot about the outside world. Based on the events of recent years, Jon gradually figured out the timeline he was in.

A few years ago, Jon had learned from his father, Walston, that the fearsome Rocks Pirates, who had once ruled the Grand Line, had been defeated by the Navy and the Roger Pirates. The Rocks Pirates were now history.

From this, Jon deduced the general era he was in. The Fleet Admiral was Kong, and the Admirals were Sengoku and Zephyr. There were still decades before Luffy's journey would begin.

The timeline depressed Jon because he knew so little about the events in One Piece before the main story.

If he were in the timeline after the main plot began, he could at least leverage his knowledge of the story. But being thirty years away from Luffy's departure meant that most of the storyline was practically useless to him now, except for knowing a few future legendary figures.

"Well, at least the South Blue is one of the four seas; it's not as chaotic as the Grand Line."

As one of the four seas, the South Blue was still firmly under the World Government and Navy's control. There were pirates, but the Navy maintained relative order, and it was nowhere near the mayhem of the future Great Pirate Era.

Jon's focus sharpened. He could sense someone approaching. With more than ten years of training, his Observation Haki had become quite refined, allowing him to sense nearly half the island when he was calm.

"Jon."

A middle-aged man, clad in the Navy's signature justice cloak, approached briskly.

Jon stood up and called out, "Dad."

The man was his father in this life, Lyons Walston. In his forties, sporting a full beard and standing over two meters tall, he was imposing. Jon, at nearly six feet, looked relatively thin beside him.

"Jon, I have great news for you."

Walston's face was filled with excitement, clearly thrilled by whatever he'd heard.

Jon asked, "Dad, what's the good news?"

Jon held great respect for his father, who had served in the South Blue's Navy branch for over twenty years.

Though his father's talent wasn't exceptional, he had worked his way up through sheer hard work to become the 47th Branch's base commander. In the South Blue, he was a renowned colonel, with hundreds of pirate captures and kills to his name.

"The main base just sent an important notice. Admiral Zephyr is transitioning to become an instructor at the Navy Academy. The base is calling for each branch to send its most talented soldiers to HQ."

At this point, Walston looked elated. "If the talents are extraordinary, they might even have the chance to become Zephyr's first students. Even if they don't get picked by Admiral Zephyr, they could stay at the headquarters' military academy. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

For most Navy soldiers stationed in branch bases, the main headquarters was a revered place and their ultimate dream. Serving at HQ offered far more opportunities than working in a branch.

The branch bases in the four seas were leagues apart from those along the Grand Line and the headquarters. Generally speaking, a soldier in a branch base was about three ranks lower than one of the same level at HQ.

For example, Jon's father, Walston, was a branch base commander and colonel, but in HQ, he would be the equivalent of a lieutenant.

In his youth, Walston had longed to join HQ but was limited by his talent. After he married and had children, he set his dream aside. But as his son Jon grew, he noticed Jon's talent far exceeded his own. Walston's goal became grooming Jon for success.

He had initially planned to pull a few strings to get Jon into HQ or, at the very least, to the Grand Line, where prospects were better than in the South Blue.

He hadn't even begun to act when HQ sent this message.

An active admiral becoming an instructor was unprecedented, and HQ was calling for exceptional soldiers from all branches.

Walston saw this as a golden opportunity and wanted to secure it for his son.

Though Walston had immense confidence in Jon, he wasn't sure Jon would stand out enough to become Zephyr's student. But to him, it would be enough if Jon could just stay in HQ's Navy academy.

"Admiral Zephyr is becoming an instructor?"

Jon's face changed slightly as he heard the news.

He knew a bit about Zephyr, remembering that he'd once considered leaving after his family was killed by pirates. Kong had convinced him to stay, and Zephyr, still holding faith in the Navy, retained his admiral rank while becoming an instructor.

Despite the tragic end in the manga, Zephyr was undeniably a formidable figure.

His strength was unquestionable; not only did he serve as an admiral, but the students he taught were legends.

The talented ones went on to become admirals or admiral candidates. Many HQ vice-admirals were also his students, and countless other officers had learned under him.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Zephyr was the greatest instructor in the One Piece world, with a shockingly high success rate among his students.

Jon recalled that two of the future three admirals, Akainu and Kizaru, were Zephyr's first students. With Zephyr now taking up the teaching role, it was likely that Akainu and Kizaru would join the Navy this year.
