One Piece: Jungle Juice

Chapter 4: Research Boons

1st POV

*Five Years Later*

I spent seventeen years on this island, toiling away and researching the books' contents, trying to repair them and understand their hidden secrets. To understand the recipe this book had given me and to get everything just right.

More so after the...failure, I think I burnt a part of the forest trying to kill the beast that was born due to my own carelessness. I made sure to give it a proper grave, which was a small way of me trying to atone for the form I forced upon them. Although I was lucky in killing, I could tell that if left to roam it would be a true monster but I would never know, not until I get the recipe right.

The book detailed the specific point in which the Jungle Juice would be fully completed, it would be a weird mixture of neon green and a tiny bit of yellow. I was close to getting it as each new one brought me closer and closer to the final product, with the book revealing where I went wrong and what kind of modifications were needed.

I did try to be exact when mixing the ingredients but sometimes a mistake or two will be made during the creation process.

I could feel it though, today was going to be different and my five years of effort would not go to waste. I even had the perfect inset and test subject to test it all on, the insect was one known for its size and fighting capabilities, it was called...Sia, I believe by the locals, is an extremely large and ferocious fighting cricket. It would be interesting to see how it would affect the overall organism once Jungle Juice was applied.

As for the human subject, well it would be me, if it didn't work well the villagers would probably burn the books or something like that, not wanting another fool like me to repeat the process. If it did, I would have a tremendous gain in strength, especially if I applied the Sia's strength to human proportions.

It would also be interesting to see what would happen to my body afterward, would it replace my burnt skin with a bug carapace, or would it simply morph to match? How would my inner body change to adapt to the sudden introduction of this power, and even then?

How would it be different from a Devil Fruit?

Would it be similar to a Zoan type, or a paramecia in the fact it would give superhuman capabilities? Then what about Logia, how would it interact with those whose bodies turned into elements? So many interesting things to learn about, and so many opportunities for new discoveries.

While I was no longer worthy of being called a scholar, It seemed as though the spirit still left within me never waned. yet I couldn't be happy, not until I knew Nico Robin was safe and yet I lost all this time to try and find her, I didn't even know where to start looking.

Right now though I needed to test this newest sample first.

As my hand slowly hovered over the make-shift test tube I made with a bit of the Ancinet Insects essence hidden with the book, one of the last remaining bits of it. I dropped in the necessary amount and put it down awaiting the results to see if I had finally created Jungle Juice.

Minutes went by and the concoction slowly bubbled as it shifted colors, changing its overall composition rapidly. Eventually, it began to settle, changing to a neon green, the same color described in the book...hopefully anyway, and finally the small tints of yellow appeared, signaling that it was indeed the substance described in the book..again hopefully.

Once the substance was fully made, I went over to the cage Sia I had and brought it over to where I placed the Jungle Juice. The cage I had constructed to hold them was a small wooden box essentially with some leaves acting as the cover for it, with some small rope to tie it all together and make it as sturdy as possible.

Course I had to go through a couple of tries before getting it right, which was a pain to do as well and wasted valuable time. Making a small hole in the makeshift lid, I made sure to put some old black gloves on carefully grabbed the makeshift test tube, and slowly rotated it. Then as a single albeit large drop came out and entered the cage, I could hear the panic chittering of the Sia inside.

Eventually, the chittering stopped and a strange gas substance spilled but it acted oddly for gas. It seemed as though it was directly heading for my nose and as it entered my nostrils, I couldn't smell anything and no I don't mean that it was overpowering me, blocking all other scents.

It literally smelled like nothing as it fully entered my body beginning the process of changing me to an insect humanoid. While I felt nothing at first, I couldn't be sure that it would be a painless process as the book didn't go into much detail about what happened to a person during it and only into the aftermath, and the details about the common traits amongst the Insect humans.

So it was possible it would be an extremely painful transformation or it could be completely painless. Right now it would probably be a good idea to get all the rest I could before the transformation started, I needed all the strength I could muster and deal with the pain, if it hurt which odds were it would.

3rd POV

As Ash went to bed, covering himself up, the transformation would begin in earnest and begin with the transformation of his insides. Restructuring his organs and bones to fuse together with the DNA of the Sia insect. This would both be a long and painless process as the inside would be changed before moving on to the outside.

On the outside of his body, his burnt skin would shift and change as a carapace formed all over his skin, not leaving a bit of a human behind. His arms began to change and bulge a little alongside his legs, becoming pitch black while the rest of his body would almost resemble it. The lines formed on these bulges, dark orange lines as if it was trying to resemble the carapace of the Sia.

Then finally a mandible formed on Ashe's face, not replacing his mouth but rather adding to it.

Just like that, a process that Ash though would be painful was completed painlessly.
