Chapter 3: Chapter 3: A Song of Bonds and Memories - I
[Note: "From here I will call Ashen as Ash as per the now name in this world"]
System inner voice ["speaking"]
Ash inner speech "speaking"
System Awakening: Understanding the Rules of the New World:
The morning sun filtered through the open window as Ash woke up, stretching and rubbing his eyes. He lay there for a moment, feeling the warmth of the early light on his face. The events of the previous day swirled in his mind, but as always, there was a constant companion—Celeste. ["Good morning, Ash."] Celeste's voice, soft and gentle, filled his mind, bringing a sense of familiarity and comfort. ["Did you sleep well?"]
Ash let out a small sigh, letting the weight of the morning sink in. "Morning, Celeste. Yeah, I'm fine. Just... trying to figure everything out."
["I understand. It can be overwhelming at first. Would you like a brief reminder of the system features?"]
Ash nodded to himself, even though he knew Celeste couldn't see him. "Yeah, I could use some help with that. Especially about that relationship meter you mentioned. How does that work?"
["The relationship meter tracks your interactions with others and helps determine how close you are to them."] Celeste's tone was clear, as if she were explaining it for the hundredth time. ["Every time you form a connection or bond with someone, the meter increases. Different relationships will unlock new abilities or quests based on your closeness with them."]
"So, it's like a friendship or trust gauge?" Ash asked, his curiosity piqued.
["Exactly."] Celeste confirmed. ["The meter has different levels for males and females, so the dynamic of your relationships will vary depending on the individual."]
Ash's thoughts turned to Uta. He had a feeling that this relationship would be especially important. "And what about those coins you mentioned? How do I get them, and what can I use them for?"
["You can earn coins by completing quests, sub-quests, hidden quests, converting baileys and achievements."] Celeste explained. ["These coins can be used in the store to purchase various items, equipment, or training opportunities."]
Ash felt the weight of the word "training" in his mind. He hadn't forgotten about the skills he needed to learn to survive in this world. "Training, huh? And what about lottery tickets?"
["Also Ash, the exchange rate between Baileys and System Coins is straightforward,"] Celeste explained. ["For every 1,000 Baileys you acquire, you'll gain 1 System Coin (1000:1)."]
["The lottery is a feature that allows you to unlock random abilities, weapons, or items."] Celeste continued, almost as though she had been anticipating the question. ["Free tickets will become available to you during certain events like your birthday or achievements or quests, and you can use them to win special rewards."]
"Got it," Ash said, absorbing the information. "So, free tickets are like bonuses. What about special gifts? You said I'd get something on my birthday?"
["Yes."] Celeste's voice softened slightly. ["On your birthday, you will receive a gift pack that may include items, coins, exp or boosts. This can also affect your relationships depending on what's in the gift."]
Ash smiled at the thought. "That's pretty cool."
["It will be."] Celeste's tone seemed to brighten. ["Now, remember, the relationship meter is important to progressing your journey. Building bonds with people like Shanks, Uta, and the crew will unlock new quests and abilities."]
Ash paused, thinking about what Celeste had said. "Yeah, I'm already starting to connect with them. Uta, especially. Thanks for the info, Celeste. I'll keep working on that. Let's see where this adventure takes me."
["You're welcome, Ash."] Celeste's voice held a warm, encouraging tone. ["Every step you take will lead to new opportunities. Just stay true to yourself."]
With that, Ash got out of bed and started to prepare for the day, ready to take the next step in his journey.
Interactions with Uta and the Crew:
The next week aboard Shanks' ship was a whirlwind of training, bonding, and trying to fit in. Ash had been focused on the quest to befriend Shanks and his crew, and so far, his interactions with them had been warm and welcoming. However, there was still the underlying sense that Ash was an outsider—he wasn't part of this world, and they hadn't even met Luffy yet, so his future was still uncertain.
Time Skip: One Week Later-
In the course of the week, Ash had made significant progress with his skills. He spent most of his time training and learning the fundamentals—Beckman and Yasopp had shown him some basic shooting techniques & tactics, and Lucky Roo had offered tips on hand-to-hand combat. The crew was generous with their time, teaching Ash everything they could, making him feel more integrated into the ship's routine.
Flashback:
The sun was high, casting a warm glow over the deck of the ship as the crew gathered together after a long day of sailing. Ash had been thinking a lot about his training, and the more he practiced, the more determined he became. He had to keep learning, especially if he wanted to survive in this world. But as much as he enjoyed learning from the crew, there was one thing missing.
That was when Ash, filled with a burst of childish energy, raised his hand like he was in class. "Hey, Shanks!" he called out, jumping up and down with excitement. "Teach me how to be a great swordsman! I want to be like you!"
The crew paused, then burst into laughter. Even Shanks himself let out a chuckle, shaking his head.
"You? A swordsman?" Yasopp laughed, ruffling Ash's hair. "You're still just a kid!"
"Yeah, you've barely got the strength to swing a stick!" Lucky Roo added, winking at him.
Beckman leaned back against the ship's mast, a smirk on his face. "Swordsman, huh? You sure you can handle that, kid? You'd be better off learning how to stay out of trouble first."
Ash puffed out his chest, ignoring their teasing. "I can totally do it! I'm not scared of a sword. I can be tough too, you know!"
Uta, who had been sitting off to the side, overheard the conversation and walked over, crossing her arms. "He's serious about it, huh?" she said with a soft chuckle. "He's got guts, I'll give him that."
Shanks, still grinning at Ash's determination, finally gave a hearty laugh. "Alright, alright, kid. I see you've got your heart set on this. But before you start swinging swords around, you've got to learn some basics."
Ash's face lit up. "So you'll teach me?"
"Not yet," Shanks said, tapping Ash on the shoulder. "You've got to learn from my crew first. They know a lot more about surviving out here than you do. Then, if you're still standing, I'll teach you swordsmanship."
Ash's excitement faltered a bit. "But I want to learn from you!"
Shanks grinned widely, "Patience, kid. You've got to walk before you can run." He looked over to his crew. "Alright, everyone, let's teach this kid how to survive out here."
Back to Present:
Ash smiled at the memory. Despite his playful and childish persistence, he understood that Shanks had a point. He needed to be trained in the basics first before jumping to something as difficult as swordsmanship. With the crew's help, Ash had started to learn the fundamentals of survival on the sea, everything from using a gun to self-defense and simple navigation. Every day, he was growing stronger, and every day, he was one step closer to proving that he could earn Shanks' trust.
Ash stood quietly by the edge of the ship, the wind playing with his hair as his mind drifted back to his journey so far. He had learned so much in the past week, but there was still a lot to do. His thoughts returned to the quest log.
Ash took a deep breath and reached out to Celeste mentally, seeking guidance about his current quests.
"Celeste, show me the quest progress. Where do I stand with Shanks and Uta?" he asked, a mix of curiosity and impatience in his tone.
Celeste's familiar, warm voice responded with a tinge of encouragement. ["Of course, Ash. Displaying active quests now."]
The translucent interface shimmered before him, listing:
Befriend Shanks and his Crew (Incomplete)
Reward: Skill Unlock - "Basic Swordsmanship"
Gain Uta's Trust (Incomplete)
Reward: Special Ability - "Voice Resonance"
["You're making excellent progress, Ash, especially with Shanks' crew. A little more bonding, and you'll complete that quest. Uta's trust, however, requires a deeper connection—something beyond casual camaraderie."]
Ash sighed, feeling the weight of the tasks. "What else can I do? I've been training, helping out, and spending time with them. What's missing?"
Celeste's voice softened, carrying a reassuring tone. ["Patience is key. Relationships are built over time, through shared experiences and understanding. Keep being genuine, and trust will follow. Besides, you've been gaining other advantages along the way."]
That piqued his interest. "What do you mean by 'other advantages'?"
["Your abilities are growing, Ash. Look at your stats. You've leveled up significantly, and the miscellaneous skills you've acquired from Shanks' crew are giving you a foundation for survival in this world. Would you like me to display them?"]
"Yeah, let's see them."
With a subtle shimmer, the interface updated, showcasing his current abilities and stats:

Ash raised an eyebrow, impressed by his steady progress. "That's... better than I expected. Looks like all those training sessions paid off."
Celeste's tone turned playful yet encouraging. ["Of course they did! You've been working hard, and I've been keeping track of every moment. You're not just growing in strength but also building relationships that will shape your journey."]
Her words brought a smile to his face. He felt more at ease knowing he wasn't alone in this endeavor. "Thanks, Celeste. You really know how to make a guy feel better."
["That's what I'm here for. Now, don't get complacent. Keep pushing forward, and remember—the rewards aren't just for the quests; they're for the connections you make along the way."]
Ash's curiosity grew as he scanned his stats and abilities again. He had made significant progress in a short amount of time, but there were still some questions lingering in his mind.
"Hey, Celeste", Ash began, his voice light, though he was clearly thinking hard. "I've noticed that my luck stat hasn't been increasing much, and I can't allocate points into it like my other stats. Why is that?"
Celeste's voice sounded a little teasing, but there was understanding behind her words. ["Ah, you've noticed that, have you? Well, luck doesn't work quite like the others. You can't directly increase it by using your points, but it will increase over time, often through events, rewards, and some hidden quests. Think of it as the result of the choices you make and the opportunities you encounter."]
Ash nodded thoughtfully. It made sense in a way. There were always certain things in life that couldn't be directly controlled but could still change with time and circumstances. He wondered if it would be linked to more important moments down the line, things that would impact his future journey.
"I see... So I just need to wait for those moments?"
["Exactly. And there's another thing you might not know,"] Celeste continued with a hint of excitement in her voice. ["Luck can also influence the chances you get for special rewards. Hidden items, rare abilities, even encounters with powerful individuals—luck plays a part in how often and how well those things happen."]
Ash's expression softened. "I guess it's kind of like waiting for the right moment, huh? I'll just have to trust the process."
["That's the spirit."] Celeste's words were filled with pride. ["Now, there was something else you were curious about, right?"]
Ash remembered what he wanted to ask next. His eyes wandered to his title, something that had piqued his interest from the moment he first saw it.
"Yeah, about my title. I've got 'Reincarnator'... What exactly does that do? I mean, does it have any real effect, or is it just something to make me feel special?"
Celeste chuckled softly, her voice laced with a sense of mystery. ["Ah, titles... They're not just for show. In fact, 'Reincarnator' is actually quite powerful, though its true impact will be more noticeable in the future. It gives you a unique advantage: a deeper understanding of the world, allowing you to adapt faster and learn more efficiently. You'll be able to see through situations with a clearer perspective, and certain characters may even be more inclined to trust you because of it."]
Ash was taken aback by this revelation. It was more than just a title—it was a key to understanding and connecting with others, something that would be invaluable in a world like this.
"That's... actually kind of amazing. So, it's like a hidden buff or something?"
["Exactly."] Celeste replied with a hint of affection in her tone. ["It's just one of the many benefits that come with being who you are, Ash."]
Ash opened his system interface once again, his fingers lingering over the various options. His curiosity had grown since discovering the items available in the store, and now that he had 500 system coins, he was eager to see what kind of useful things might be available.
"Alright, Celeste, let's see what's in the store today," he said, the thought forming clearly in his mind.
In a flash, the store's list appeared, offering various items for purchase. His eyes scanned the options:

Ash bought two items: Boxing Fundamentals and the Cooking Guide. Both seemed perfect for his current goals to improve survival and combat skills.
"Alright, Celeste, I'm buying these two," Ash said, tapping decisively. The store's coins counter ticked down from 500 to 50.
Celeste's voice chimed in, warm and encouraging. ["Excellent choices, Ash! These will certainly boost your hand-to-hand combat and make you a reliable cook aboard the ship. Let's handle the integration for Boxing Fundamentals first."]
The familiar buzz returned as Ash's mind tingled, and a notification appeared:
Hand-to-Hand Combat (Updated)
Novice Level: Integrated Boxing Fundamentals. Enhanced punching techniques, improved combat reflexes, and better stance control.
Ash clenched his fists, feeling a significant difference. He threw a light jab, testing his form. "Whoa, my punches feel sharper, faster."
Celeste's laughter was soft but delighted. ["Glad you noticed! Boxing improves both your offense and defense, and as part of Hand-to-Hand Combat, it's a natural fit."]
Another notification popped up as the Cooking Guide activated.
Cooking (Novice Level):
Benefits: Can prepare meals with better taste and nutritional value. Provides minor energy and morale boosts for the crew.
Celeste continued. ["Cooking's not just about food—it's about keeping everyone healthy and happy. Your meals will now provide a small boost to the crew's energy, so use it well. And don't forget: experimenting with ingredients might unlock unique effects!"]
Ash chuckled. "Guess I'll need to test it out next time we catch something edible."
Celeste's voice carried an affectionate tone. ["You're not just learning, Ash. You're growing into someone dependable in every aspect of life. Oh, by the way, I've updated your stats to reflect the gains from integrating these skills. Take a look."]
Updated Stats:-
Strength: 15 → 16 (+1 from Boxing)
Agility: 16 → 17 (+1 from Boxing)
Endurance: 13 → 14 (+1 from Boxing)
Intelligence: 14
Charisma: 16
Luck: 8
Unallocated Points: 5
Ash whistled. "Wow, integrating skills actually boosts stats? That's going to make training even more worthwhile."
Celeste's teasing voice returned. ["Only for the right skills. Some abilities directly influence your stats, while others grant unique advantages. That's why smart choices matter. Keep pushing forward, Ash. The best is yet to come."]
Ash closed the system with a grin, his motivation renewed. Boxing would enhance his combat training, and cooking? That was going to earn him serious points with the crew. Every day aboard Shanks' ship was shaping him into someone ready for whatever challenges the Grand Line might throw his way in the future.
He let out a long breath, his gaze fixed on the horizon painted in amber hues by the setting sun. The gentle sway of the ship and the distant calls of the crew created a serene backdrop, but his thoughts were elsewhere. Tonight, he has to fulfill promise he made to Uta that he couldn't break.
The idea of singing in front of the crew had his heart racing, not from fear but from the anticipation of baring a piece of himself. It wasn't just a song; it was a thread connecting him to memories and emotions he couldn't fully explain. With a soft sigh, he leaned against the railing, steeling himself for the night ahead.
