Chapter 31: Chapter 31 Massacre
When Kai spoke earlier, his voice carried an icy indifference, a tone that could push people away from him as if from miles away. His once warm demeanor was gone, replaced by a cold, detached aura. His appearance had transformed drastically as well: his hair now blood-red, his pupils the same unsettling color, while his clothes had turned into flowing black garments, surrounded by ominous black flames.
Nami recounted Kai's new appearance to the crew, describing the shocking transformation she had just witnessed.
Zoro, hearing her description, felt his suspicions deepen. Something was definitely wrong with Kai.
Without hesitation, Zoro said, "We need to go check on him. Let's hurry!"
"Right!" the crew agreed, and they rushed toward Arlong Park.
As Kai neared Arlong Park, the murderous intent in his eyes grew more intense. Despite the massacre of countless sea beasts in the ocean that had slightly diminished his bloodlust and momentarily cleared his mind, it wasn't enough. He craved more violence, more death. Otherwise, he wasn't sure if he could control the monstrous urge within him.
And on this island, the best targets were the Fish-Men led by Arlong. So, with a twisted sense of justification, Kai knew he would continue his killing spree.
To him, none of these Fish-Men were innocent. Even Hatchan, who would later form a bond with Rayleigh, wasn't part of his consideration. Kai had already declared to Mihawk that he was a free pirate, beholden to no one. He followed his own path, no matter the consequences.
Kai soon arrived at the gates of Arlong Park. There, he noticed the villagers of Cocoyasi Village gathered. Without hesitation, he knocked them all unconscious with a burst of Conqueror's Haki, ensuring they wouldn't get caught up in the coming bloodbath. He feared that if they remained, he might lose control and harm them.
Kai landed inside Arlong Park, where the Fish-Men eyed him curiously. One of Arlong's subordinates stepped forward, unimpressed.
"Hey, human, what do you want here?"
Kai didn't respond, nor did he acknowledge the Fish-Man's presence. Feeling insulted, the Fish-Man raised his hand to strike.
"Didn't you hear me, human—"
Splurt!
Before he could finish his sentence, Kai's hand pierced through his body, the sound of tearing flesh echoing through the park. The Fish-Man dropped to the ground, lifeless.
The other Fish-Men stared, stunned by the sudden brutality. Arlong's eyes flared with rage as he bellowed, "You bastard! What have you done to my crew?! Tear him apart and feed him to the sea monsters!"
The Fish-Men charged at Kai, but he only smiled wickedly. He moved swiftly, weaving through the crowd like a phantom, cutting them down one by one. Each Fish-Man he passed fell lifeless, as if the Shinigami himself had claimed their souls.
Arlong, consumed by fury, charged directly at Kai. "I'll rip you apart, human!"
Before Arlong could land his attack, Kai's arm shot out like a viper, seizing him by the throat. Despite Arlong's massive frame, Kai effortlessly lifted him off the ground as if he weighed nothing.
Arlong struggled, beating on Kai's arm, but his efforts were in vain. Kai's grip was like iron, unyielding. With a cold, detached look, Kai tightened his grip, crushing Arlong's windpipe.
Arlong's body went limp, and Kai tossed him aside like discarded trash.
"Brother Arlong!" The remaining Fish-Men screamed in anguish. Driven by rage, they launched a desperate attack on Kai, but he greeted them with the same fate. With each passing second, more Fish-Men met their end at Kai's hands.
Arlong Park became a slaughterhouse, blood flowing like rivers. The once-proud home of the Fish-Men was now a scene of carnage and despair.
...
By the time Luffy and the others arrived at Arlong Park, they were met with a disturbing sight. Dozens of villagers lay on the ground, unmoving. Nami's heart skipped a beat, and she rushed over, fearing the worst. Tears streamed from her eyes.
"Everyone…"
But something was off. Nami bent down to check one of the villagers and found no injuries. In fact, they weren't dead at all. They were... asleep?
She checked again to be sure. Yes, they were all asleep. Relief washed over her, and she exhaled deeply.
Thank goodness they were okay. But why were they all asleep here together? There was only one person capable of this, she thought.
Nami turned her gaze toward Arlong Park and ran toward the gates, her heart pounding in her chest.
When she burst through the gates, her eyes widened in shock. She froze, her pupils constricting.
"Nami, what's going on?" Luffy asked as he approached from behind. But when he saw the scene inside Arlong Park, he too was stunned, his voice trembling.
"Kai... Kai ?"
Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp arrived shortly after, and their expressions mirrored Luffy's. It wasn't just the sheer destruction that left them speechless; it was the horrifying scene before them.
The park had turned into a bloody nightmare. The bodies of Fish-Men littered the ground, the water in the pool dyed red with their blood. In the center of it all stood Kai , wreathed in black flames, his hair and eyes glowing a terrifying crimson. He looked like a demon king standing in the midst of hell.
Kai had killed every Fish-Man in sight, and though his bloodlust had subsided somewhat, the black flames around him flickered chaotically, barely contained.
"Kai!" Nami began to run toward him, but Zoro grabbed her arm, his expression serious. "Don't."
Nami looked at him in confusion.
Zoro stared at Kai with a grave look. "Kai's not in his right mind right now. He's dangerous. We can't just rush in like this."
Zoro knew Kai well, perhaps even better than Luffy. Kai was never one to kill without reason. This massacre was out of character for him. Something was very, very wrong.
Zoro thought back to how Kai had clutched his head in pain earlier. This wasn't the same person they knew. Something had changed inside him, something they didn't understand.
But for now, they could do nothing. They could only watch and wait, hoping Kai would regain control on his own. If they were stronger, maybe they could knock some sense into him, but after witnessing Kai's fight with Mihawk, Zoro knew better.
Rushing in now would only get them killed.
