Chapter 618: No Future (Two in One)!!!!!
"Roar!"
Imu let out a crazed roar, her voice echoing through the air as her body rapidly expanded. Her once delicate features twisted into a demonic visage, as if she had emerged straight from the depths of hell.
Her clothes disintegrated, replaced by scales that covered her skin. Her previously beautiful face warped grotesquely, and from her back, twelve fleshly wings erupted, breaking through her skin.
Six of the wings transformed into bat-like appendages, while the other six sprouted feathers, like liquid spikes piercing through her flesh to cover the wings.
But Imu was clearly in trouble. Her face kept contorting, as if multiple wills were fighting to control her body, corrupting her mind.
"You worthless scum! I am the true ruler of the world! You will all bow to me!"
When Nicolas arrived, he found Imu howling uncontrollably, her fists pounding the ground wildly. As her wings flapped, the Red Line around them shattered.
Nicolas' earlier attacks had driven her into a corner, wounding both her body and soul. Now, overwhelmed by the chaos within, she seemed lost.
"You're truly insane. Sure, forcing the devil fruit's source into your body might give you immense power, but do you really think you can suppress all the beings fighting for control? You're digging your own grave. Let's see how this plays out," Nicolas said coldly, watching Imu.
"Die!" Imu roared at the sight of Nicolas, charging at him with everything she had.
Her body swelled a hundredfold, and her right hand glowed brightly, forming a massive hammer of energy that shot into the sky, radiating blinding light.
Boom!
She swung the energy hammer down violently, aiming to crush Nicolas.
Boom!
But Nicolas had anticipated her attack. The moment she moved, he raised his long blade, blocking the hammer.
The clash was so fierce that the ground beneath them cracked and split, enormous fissures rapidly spreading along the cliffs of the abyss.
The sheer force of the impact shook the Red Line, and the combatants at Mary Geoise struggled to keep their balance, staring in shock at the abyss where Nicolas and Imu had vanished. The fight between them defied comprehension.
If the skyward collision had been awe-inspiring, then the ground shaking beneath their feet—like a massive earthquake—made the combatants realize the true terror of the battle.
Blood spurted from Nicolas' mouth as he was flung back, crashing through countless rocks before halting mid-air.
"What a terrifying creature. Even while her consciousness is divided, she's this strong," Nicolas muttered as he looked at the fractured Red Line.
Just then, Imu burst from the cliffside of the Red Line, her wings stirring a storm as she flew toward the ocean.
"Roar!"
Her body emitted a savage roar as she attacked Nicolas again.
Bang!
The two clashed once more, with Nicolas staggering back, barely blocking her assault.
Imu's eyes were completely blood-red, her sole focus on killing Nicolas.
She blamed him for her current state.
Yet, killing Nicolas—an awakened Logia-type user—was no easy feat. Unless all the lightning in the world was erased, Nicolas couldn't be killed.
Both of them were consumed by madness, driven by a thirst for each other's death. Their battle in the sky intensified, far surpassing their earlier skirmish.
Slash!
Nicolas swung his blade, cleaving Imu in half—a fatal wound for most.
But Imu, roaring in fury, lashed out with a claw from her split body, tearing Nicolas into several pieces.
"Die!"
With lightning surging around him, Nicolas' fragmented body reassembled, and he charged at Imu once more.
At the same time, Imu, who had been split in two, healed instantly.
Facing Nicolas, her wings—a mixture of angelic and demonic—beat rapidly, splitting the ocean apart. A rain of light and a foul, black wind erupted from her wings, expanding toward Nicolas.
Boom!
The clash between them shook the seas, their blows powerful enough to disturb even the depths of Fishman Island. Their strikes evaporated vast amounts of seawater.
As the battle raged on, the space behind Imu suddenly began to distort.
A strange ripple formed behind her, and the river of time trembled. A figure slowly emerged from the void.
Nicolas' expression shifted as he saw the figure—a person identical to Imu. This was unexpected.
Imu's contorted face mirrored Nicolas' shock. Only she understood what was happening—this was the ability she had wielded: to summon her past and future selves into the present.
Through sheer power, she would crush any opposition.
It was how she had defeated Joy Boy and his followers centuries ago.
But now, only her past self had appeared—her future self was missing.
This meant she might not have a future.
Since ancient times, the past is fixed, the present keeps moving, but the future is eternal.
If she had no future, she had nothing.
Even her chaotic mind shuddered at this terrifying thought.
As the past Imu neared, Nicolas knew this was bad. The Imu from eight centuries ago, fresh from defeating Joy Boy, was a formidable foe.
If the two Imus teamed up, it would be a two-on-one fight. No matter how confident Nicolas was, he didn't think he could survive against both.
His only chance was to finish off the present Imu quickly. Without her as an anchor, the past Imu couldn't remain in this timeline.
Determined, Nicolas' killing intent surged.
He could see the past Imu approaching, and he knew he couldn't let her fully enter the present.
Right now, the present Imu was disoriented, her will in chaos. She was a beast with immense power, but little control.
If he attacked her relentlessly, there was still a chance. But if he failed, once the past Imu arrived, Nicolas would face an unprecedented challenge.
But just as Nicolas prepared to strike, the situation changed.
Time, the most uncontrollable force, defied reason. The past Imu, who should have taken longer to appear, had already arrived at the anchor point.
Her foot stepped through the void.
Wearing a crown and adorned in a regal, floor-length gown, the past Imu radiated a suffocating aura of terror. As the newly crowned ruler of the world, her presence was overwhelming.
Though she hadn't fully emerged from the void, her dominance was already palpable. She locked eyes with Nicolas across the rift in space.
Their gazes met, and the air between them crackled with lightning.
Imu from the past stared at Nicolas, and after a brief moment, she laughed.
In her time, she had been unmatched, but she had never expected to meet someone this strong in the future.
"What an interesting person," she murmured.
But when her gaze shifted to the monstrous Imu, her smile vanished, replaced by a cold, bone-chilling expression.
Nicolas, sensing the immense pressure from the past Imu, became even more alert. The situation was deteriorating rapidly. It was clear that this past version of Imu was not an ally.
Worse, the contingency plans he had in place didn't seem to apply to this situation.
Those observing the battle, like Dragon and others, felt their hearts sink when they saw a second Imu. They knew things were about to take a grim turn.
Dragon glanced at Luffy, who was locked in combat with Garp. He realized that only Luffy might be able to intervene in a battle of this scale.
"Did you push me to this state?" the past Imu asked, her voice calm but laced with danger.
Nicolas didn't respond. The situation was clear—there was no need for words.
Today, he would have to fight to the death.
Seeing his silence, the past Imu didn't press further. Instead, she turned her gaze toward the Red Line in the distance. Her eyes seemed to pierce through space, landing on Pangaea Castle.
When she saw the destroyed castle and realized that her treasured giant straw hat was gone, her pupils widened in shock. Her body began to tremble.
"Was it you?"
Her emotionless voice reached Nicolas' ears, but he instinctively looked at the monstrous Imu. After all, it was her who had destroyed Pangaea Castle, not him.
Though Nicolas had sent her flying into the castle, he hadn't directly damaged it.
The past Imu fell into a brief silence, realizing that her future self had destroyed the straw hat she held so dear.
"How dare you!?"
With a shout, the past Imu's form flashed, appearing before the monstrous Imu. Her delicate, pale hand clenched into a fist, which she hurled toward the present Imu.
That punch, fueled by all her fury, carried the devastating power of her Haki—both Conqueror's and Armament Haki—colliding with overwhelming force toward the monstrous Imu.
"You, do you even know what you're doing!?"
Imu, who had almost fully transformed into a monster, shouted as she saw her past self suddenly attacking. She was genuinely panicking. The arrival of her past self without a future had already left her uneasy, and now, her past self had suddenly chosen to strike at her, throwing everything completely out of her control.
The most important part of her plan was that her past, future, and present selves would join forces, and together, they should have been able to easily deal with Nicholas.
But now, everything seemed to be heading down a path she couldn't even begin to comprehend.
This was unimaginable!
Boom!
The heavens roared, space shattered, and massive waves surged across the sea. A furious punch from the past Imu, filled with bitter hatred, had terrifying destructive power. Even Imu, whose strength had surged, was sent flying, tearing through the air with explosions of pressure.
Watching the monstrous Imu being knocked away, the past Imu retracted her fist and then coldly turned her gaze toward Nicholas.
"Don't get me wrong."
The past Imu spoke up.
"That thing chose to become what she is, which means she has already fallen. I'll take care of her, and I'll take care of you too."
Nicholas was momentarily stunned by the past Imu's words, then his face revealed a look of surprise.
He hadn't expected this kind of outcome.
The Imu from the past apparently had no intention of teaming up with the present Imu. In fact, because of Imu's actions, her past self had decided to kill her future counterpart.
However, from Nicholas's perspective, while the past Imu's claim that the present Imu had "fallen" might be a convenient excuse, it was not the main reason. The real reason likely had something to do with that enormous straw hat, which had now faded into nothingness.
After all, time might change a person, but their views on certain things could be vastly different at different points in their life.
Whatever the reason behind the past Imu's actions, Nicholas didn't care.
What mattered to him was that what had started as a one-on-two fight was now turning into a three-way battle.
And a chaotic brawl? That was something he could handle.
"Roar!"
With a roar, a terrifying energy wave surged from a distance, its target being both Nicholas and the past Imu. Clearly, the monstrous Imu had now classified both of them as enemies after her past self attacked.
Boom!
In the next moment, the terrifying energy rippled across the sea as the three beings, standing at the pinnacle of power, began their chaotic clash.
"Die! All of you, die! I am the true king of this world!"
"To think you're my future self—how pathetic! I'll send you on your way myself! And you too, of course!"
"Bold words! To think you can kill me! Neither of you is qualified!"
The three fought fiercely, sometimes teaming up to take down Nicholas, and at other times, joining forces with him to strike at each other.
