Chapter 7: Shallow Island!
Chapter 7: Shallow Island!
The crew was planning on raiding an island that was called the Shallow Island.
The reason behind this name was obviously due to the structure of the island, but aside from that, the island was known for a fog that consumes it all year round and only clears up for a limited duration every year.
However, the crew has come across some very guarded news that the island holds some remains of an ancient, advanced civilization and that it only appears when the fog is cleared up.
Thus, they're here to camp for a few days in wait for the fog to clear up, but the crew wasn't the type to babysit its members.
This made it so all crew members could choose to team up or solo their way to the middle of the island, and once the fog consumes the island once again, they are to come back all at once; otherwise, after a few days, the ship will leave them behind.
For others, this caused slight inconveniences, but for Ken, it was exactly what he needed.
With this, he won't be worried about the crew anymore. Having the chance to explore an island with treasures and even be set free after was something he didn't think would come so fast.
And that is how our young man got off the ship solo and then started his journey in hope of finding treasures that could get him off the island.
The journey to the center of the island wasn't long as it was a short distance and barely a few hours of walking; thus, Ken used this time to check other parts of the island.
He was just curious about the structure of islands and didn't have a particular reason as to why he would do what he was doing, but seeing the peaceful scenery of this island gave his troubled soul a rest he didn't know he needed.
Time passed, and 2 days passed very quickly, making our young man decide to finally walk towards the center.
Once there, he found the rest of the crew who were dispatched here alongside some of the high-ranking members of the ship trying to curry favour with their captain by bringing some treasures and keeping the other bastards in check.
Giving the crew members the freedom to get whatever they find means that they obviously will be there to get the better items before them; such a thing as absolute freedom was utter bullshit, and Ken was the first to guess that.
The crew members, however, were already used to this and were just sitting around, chatting.
The fog had yet to clear up, and Ken wasn't planning on holding a conversation with anyone else; thus, he sat and started cleaning his only weapon, the mace.
He had initially thought that the two days he had spent outside wouldn't be as safe as they were, but it turns out there were no monsters on this island.
Being a shallow island with barely a few trees meant that living beings couldn't exist here; of course, there were other reasons, but this was what Ken thought.
So, this meant that the time from now to the clearing of the fog was silent and idle.
It was worth noting that the crew was using some kind of treasure to clear the fog of a relatively smaller area, and it only worked in places where the fog wasn't so concentrated.
This was there to make the crew members know where the main force was stationed if they were to come here, stop any attacks from an outside force that may or may not be here, and overall to have a clear view of the surroundings.
It was always good to be prepared.
Turns out, the fog wasn't willing to clear up fast enough, making the crew have to wait an extra 3 days, but in the end...
"It's clearing up!" One of the high-ranking members of the crew shouted to inform the others.
The attention of everyone went to look around, especially at the very center of the island where the fog was most concentrated.
Just the area where they were had such strong fog that one couldn't see their hands if they raised it, not to mention the inside.
It was rumored to have some illusion effects, and no one who has entered the center with the fog still up has ever left.
It was that dangerous, and the crew had no plans of risking their lives; thus, they waited patiently and were planning on leaving the second the fog showed signs of returning.
"Don't rush; it will take a few hours at least before it fully clears up; right now it's still dangerous." One of the high-ranking men said.
And the army heard his words returning back to their places and continuing to do what they were doing.
1 hour, two hours, three hours, time passed and by the time, the fifth hour passed the island had no sign of a fog all around.
"Aye lads, time to get going." Seeing that the time was ripe, the high ranking men shouted before they all disappeared deeper into the island.
They didn't know if the island truly had treasures nor if it was hiding the remains of an ancient civilization, they were mearly here to confirm it and if it turned out to be true they would be the first to benefit.
One after the other the crew members disappeared into the sea of trees that was hidden by the fog.
Then, once the young man was all alone, sitting with eyes that seemed to pierce through the future, he rose up, ready to do all he could to get out of here with the most benefits.
