Chapter 35: Chapter 34: Clearer Differences
After flying into the combat zone, I saw the chaos spread out before me. All the pirates were gathered in the square, with a few already sprawled out on the ground.
The square was a battlefield. Partially destroyed buildings encircled the area, and debris littered the ground. The clash of blades and panicked screams echoed all around.
Luffy was in the middle of a fight with Baggy. The clown captain effortlessly dodged every stretchy punch, practically dancing around Luffy. His movements were precise and mocking, as if he was playing with him.
Baggy's pirates gathered around, laughing and jeering at Luffy with every failed attempt.
"Is that all you got, Straw Hat?!" one pirate sneered, laughing as Luffy missed another punch.
"Ooooh! Another swing and a miss!" another one mocked, clapping his hands in amusement.
Baggy cackled loudly, bursting with laughter as he dodged yet another Gum-Gum Pistol that missed him by miles.
"Seriously, Luffy! You call this a fight?!" Baggy taunted, moving in slow motion as he effortlessly sidestepped a flurry of stretched-out punches. "I've seen baby pirates fight better than you!"
Luffy grimaced, clenching his teeth.
"Shut up, clown! I'm gonna beat you and send you back to your circus!"
Baggy let out a roaring laugh, floating his head away from his body thanks to his Devil Fruit powers.
"Oooh, how adorable! But you're really out of your league, kid."
He lunged forward, slamming a kick into Luffy's stomach, sending him rolling across the ground.
I watched the scene closely, noting how Baggy dodged every attack with ease. His movements were far too precise to be purely based on skill.
Then, I noticed Nami. She was tied up alongside other women to a mast nearby. She clearly hadn't fought but was observing the situation carefully, her brows furrowed as if waiting for the right moment to act.
Koby arrived then, panting but determined. He jumped straight into the fray, taking on Baggy's lower-ranked pirates. He ducked under a clumsy swing and landed a clean punch to one pirate's jaw, knocking him out cold.
Seizing the opportunity, I landed silently, knocking out three pirates in one sweeping motion of my Keyblade.
Baggy immediately noticed me, halting his movements.
"Oh ho ho! And who do we have here? The big prize finally shows up!" he sneered, spreading his arms wide with a wicked grin.
I walked forward calmly, feeling Luffy's eyes widen as he noticed me.
"Baggy… looks like you're using Observation Haki, huh?" I declared loudly, my voice echoing through the square.
Baggy froze for a split second, his grin faltering before he burst into laughter.
"Ooooh, so you figured it out, huh? Guess I'm busted!" he cackled. "Not really fair for a rookie like Luffy, is it?"
Luffy, still catching his breath and clutching his bruised stomach, scowled.
"Haki? Is that why he dodges all my punches?!"
Baggy let out a high-pitched laugh, his red nose wobbling as he mocked him.
"Of course, Straw Hat! You might have some power, but you're still too green to fight someone like me!"
He floated his head above his body and pointed dramatically at Luffy.
"You're nothing but a circus act… and I am the REAL pirate here!"
Luffy, panting and brushing the dust off his clothes, growled.
"Grrr… you lame clown…" he muttered under his breath.
I took a few more steps forward, crossing my arms with a smug grin.
"I'm guessing you didn't tell the Marines about your Haki, huh, Baggy?" I mocked, my tone sharp. "Otherwise, your bounty would be way higher. But there's something I really don't get… You call yourself a 'real pirate,' yet here you are, stuck in East Blue. What's wrong, Baggy? Scared of the Grand Line?"
The jab landed perfectly.
Baggy's face twisted with rage, his grotesque smile vanishing in an instant. His eyes bulged, and the veins on his forehead throbbed as his face turned crimson.
"RIDICULOUS, YOU LITTLE ROOKIE!" he roared, spitting as he screamed. "You think you're tough with that measly 80 million bounty?! I AM BAGGY THE CLOWN, FUTURE KING OF THE PIRATES!"
I raised an eyebrow, suddenly dodging as I noticed Baggy's hand, holding daggers, swooping from behind, slicing through the spot where I had just been.
"Tch, little cheater…" I growled, landing on the ground and raising my Keyblade.
Without wasting a second, I summoned balls of fire around me and launched them in rapid bursts towards Baggy. The flames exploded around him, sending debris flying into the air. Before he could recover, I made icy stalactites rain down, crashing around him and forming a temporary frozen prison.
Baggy narrowly escaped, shattering his own body into pieces using his Devil Fruit powers. His arms and legs floated in the air, each dodging the incoming projectiles.
"Heh heh heh! Not bad, rookie, but you'll need more than that to beat me!" he sneered.
"Luffy! Handle the others!" I shouted, still bombarding Baggy with spells. "Koby! Free the hostages!"
"Got it!" Koby yelled as he leaped towards the prisoners. He slashed through the ropes with his cutlass, freeing Nami and the other captive women.
Nami gave Koby a nod of thanks. "Nice work, Koby. Now let's clear this place!"
Meanwhile, Luffy had thrown himself into the fight, landing powerful punches on Baggy's pirates.
"Gum-Gum Gatling!" he roared, his fists hammering into multiple enemies at once, sending pirates flying in every direction.
Baggy, growing more irritated with how things were turning out, reassembled himself, his floating body parts snapping back together. I noticed his limbs suddenly darkening, coated in a deep black hue—Armament Haki.
"Playtime's over," Baggy growled, his body pulsing with a dark, intense energy.
"Shit…" I muttered, narrowly dodging a blackened kick that sliced through the air like a bolt of lightning.
Baggy shattered his body again, sending his pieces flying in all directions. His arms and legs spiraled around me, trying to encircle me. It was like a macabre dance. His daggers, now reinforced with Haki, whistled through the air with lethal precision.
"Take this, rookie! Demon's Dance!" he shouted, his limbs spinning around me in a deadly ballet.
I fought my way through the flurry of projectiles, summoning a wall of ice to block frontal attacks while dodging the assaults from the sides. But Baggy was fast and relentless—his blades slicing dangerously close with every strike.
"Damn, this guy's tougher than I thought," I muttered, blocking an armed limb with my Keyblade.
Baggy cackled, his floating head suddenly appearing behind me.
"Is that all?! I thought you were worth your bounty!" he sneered, lunging his head forward to bite my shoulder.
I rolled away just in time, narrowly avoiding his snapping jaws.
Luffy, after knocking out one last pirate, glanced over at us. "Jordan! You holding up?!"
"Yeah! But you're gonna have to finish this fight!" I called back.
Luffy clenched his fists, determination burning in his eyes. "Count on me! I'm gonna send him flying!"
Baggy roared with laughter, his disjointed body still floating around me.
"Ha ha ha ha! We'll see who's flying first, Straw Hat!"
Luffy stepped toward Baggy with a big grin, pulling out his shield while starting to spin rapidly. "Gum-Gum Tornado!" he shouted, launching himself forward and creating a spiraling vortex of wind around him.
The powerful whirlwind pulled in several pieces of Baggy's body, forcing them to stick to the vortex. Baggy, completely caught off guard, lost focus, and his scattered body parts flew in all directions. His head, now defenseless, floated in the air with a panicked expression.
I took advantage of the opening, dashing toward his floating head and striking it with a powerful swing of my Keyblade. "You fly even better without a red balloon!" I quipped sarcastically. His head spiraled through the air before splashing into the sea.
"Aaahhh! Someone fish me out, you useless fools!" Baggy screamed as one of his crewmates frantically dived into the water to retrieve his floating head.
Luffy stopped spinning, panting. "Haha! He flew even farther than I expected!" he laughed.
I took a few steps back and looked at Luffy. "Luffy, cover me! I need to do something!" I shouted as I launched myself into the air.
"Yeah, go for it! I've got this!" he called back, still punching away at the remaining pirates.
I soared quickly through the sky, flying straight toward the small shop where Chouchou stood guard. As I ascended, I heard a powerful roar coming from Baggy's ship. I frowned. "Richie…" I muttered, recognizing the lion that accompanied Mohji.
I landed softly in front of the shop and summoned a Large Body from my shadow, emerging in a swirl of darkness. "Hold the dog off, but don't hurt him," I ordered. The Large Body immediately complied, positioning itself between Chouchou and me.
The dog lunged at the Heartless, barking and growling fiercely, his teeth bared. But the Large Body, massive and slow-moving, gently pushed him back without actually attacking, merely keeping him at bay.
I rushed into the shop, quickly climbing over the counter. Sliding a few floorboards aside, I uncovered a hidden keyhole buried under dust. "Finally…" I murmured before turning my Keyblade in the keyhole.
A dark light burst out, and Heartless began emerging from the shadows—Creeping Shadows, twitching Soldiers, and Flying Soldiers gliding through the air. They were weak Heartless, but in large enough numbers to cause chaos.
To my surprise, they vanished almost immediately, teleporting out of the shop. I smiled, realizing they were instinctively heading toward the battlefield.
I returned to the entrance and approached Chouchou. The Large Body stepped aside, disappearing into the darkness.
Chouchou was still growling softly, eyeing me warily. He lunged forward and bit into my sleeve, tugging hard. But when he noticed I wasn't resisting, he released his grip and looked up at me with curiosity.
"It's okay, Chouchou… I'm not your enemy. I understand what you're protecting," I said, kneeling in front of him. I gently extended my hand.
Chouchou sniffed my palm, then slowly licked my fingers. He let out a soft whimper before resting his head against my hand.
I stroked his smooth, white fur. "You're protecting this shop because it was important to your master, right?" I whispered. Chouchou wagged his tail in response, his eyes filled with both sadness and trust.
"Don't worry, I won't damage anything here. I promise." I stood up, giving Chouchou another pat on the head, earning a satisfied whimper.
Chouchou barked softly, as if thanking me, then returned to his spot in front of the shop, resuming his vigilant watch.
I stepped away slowly, pulling out Sora's necklace and fastening it around my neck. Instantly, my appearance shifted—my body now covered in the iconic dark attire, my eyes glowing with an icy light.
I summoned a large army of Shadows around me, the creatures crawling out from the ground, their bright blue eyes fixating on me.
"Forward," I ordered.
The Shadows vanished again, heading directly toward the battlefield.
I walked calmly toward the main square, my feet barely brushing the ground as the Heartless army emerged from the shadows behind me. The Shadows crept silently, their yellow eyes glowing in the darkness, while the Flying Soldiers hovered above the rooftops, ready to dive onto their targets. The air was thick with tension.
The scene ahead was pure chaos—a real battlefield.
Luffy was locked in an intense duel with Baggy, their blows echoing throughout the square. Baggy, surprisingly agile, deftly dodged Luffy's attacks, skillfully using his splitting powers. "Hahaha! Is that all you've got, Straw Hat? You fight like a toddler!" Baggy mocked as he floated, his torso separated from his legs.
"Grrr! Stop moving around so much!" Luffy growled, trying to land a punch, but his fists passed harmlessly through Baggy's scattered body parts.
Not far from them, Koby and Nami were fighting side by side against Mohji and his lion, Richie. Richie let out a fierce roar, sending shockwaves as his massive paws slammed into the ground.
"Koby, cover me!" Nami shouted, launching a burst of lightning at Richie. The giant lion leaped aside with surprising agility.
"He's faster than I thought!" Koby grunted, blocking a strike from Mohji with his scimitar. "What did you expect?! He's a giant lion!" he retorted, narrowly dodging Richie's sharp claws.
"We should've let Jordan handle this beast!" Nami huffed, rolling out of the way as Richie charged again.
Across the square, an even more unexpected battle was unfolding. Zoro—the man I didn't expect to find here so soon—was dueling Cabaji, Baggy's vice-captain. Cabaji, perched on his unicycle, shifted between rapid attacks and acrobatics, spinning and slashing with precision.
"Hey, swordsman!" sneered Cabaji, his flaming saber in one hand. "You're pretty good, but you're no match for my deadly tricks!"
Zoro deftly dodged an attack, his blades crossed. "A clown doing acrobatics… Seriously? You really think that's enough?" he retorted with a smirk before counterattacking with force.
That's when I made my entrance, my Heartless flooding the square with a sinister rumble.
The Shadows immediately lunged at the pirates, crawling along the ground and leaping onto them. Flying Soldiers dove from the air, creating total chaos.
A pirate screamed as he saw me. "I-it's him… Sora!" His voice trembled with fear.
I let a smile stretch across my face as my footsteps echoed through the now tense silence. "Looks like I've got quite the welcome party today. How touching." My icy voice sent shivers down several spines.
Baggy spun around, pale as he saw the horde of creatures following me. His face drained of all color. "W-what the hell are those things?!" he stammered.
I kept advancing, the tide of Heartless flooding ahead of me, ravaging everything in their path. "If you haven't heard about my masterpieces in Lamini or Goa, then you're even more pathetic than I thought, Baggy."
Panic erupted among the pirates as the Shadows swarmed them. "Fall back! Head for the ship!" Mohji yelled, trying to whip an approaching Shadow away.
Richie roared, but several Shadows climbed onto his back, forcing him to flee towards the port. Mohji followed, cursing loudly.
Zoro, who had just knocked Cabaji away with a powerful strike, watched the scene with an impassive look. "Hmph. These creatures are scarier than these clowns," he muttered, momentarily sheathing his blades as the pirates retreated, the Heartless ignoring him.
Baggy, seeing his men fleeing, screamed, "Damn it! Everyone, get to the ship! We're leaving!" He hastily gathered his scattered body parts, floating towards his ship.
But even as the pirates fled, the tide of Shadows continued to pursue them down to the docks. They struggled to fend off several Heartless while scrambling aboard the ship in a panic. Baggy grabbed a spyglass and looked at me from the deck. I met his gaze with a mocking grin.
"This isn't over, Sora! I'll be back!" he shouted before the ship began drifting away from the port.
I watched the ship disappear over the horizon, leaving behind a ruined square still filled with blue-eyed Heartless wandering peacefully, ignoring the civilians who were timidly starting to return.
Suddenly, a blade sliced through the air toward me. Instinctively, I raised my Keyblade, parrying the strike cleanly. The clash echoed across the empty square. In front of me, Zoro stood, his three swords at the ready, eyes filled with determination.
"Are you sure you want to fight me?" I asked calmly, locking eyes with him.
Zoro tightened his grip on his swords, but before he could answer, murmurs rose from the villagers who had ventured out from their hiding spots. Slowly, they approached the scene, watching the silent standoff.
An old man with a thick beard and a worn-out hat stepped forward timidly. It was the mayor of Orange Town. He stopped a few steps away and raised his hand.
"Zoro… is that your name?" he asked in a raspy voice. "Don't do this. This man… Sora, right? He just saved us."
Zoro cast a quick glance at the mayor, surprised. "He controls these things. These… creatures. Are you sure he's here to help?"
The mayor nodded, his eyes filled with gratitude. "I don't understand everything happening here. But those creatures with blue eyes… they didn't hurt us. And this man… he drove Baggy and his crew away, freed our captured women…" The mayor placed a trembling hand over his chest. "I'll never forget what you've done for us. Thank you, Sora."
A heavy silence settled over the square. Zoro studied the mayor, then looked back at me. Slowly, he sheathed his swords one by one.
"Hmph. I don't like this. But if these people trust you…" He turned away, crossing his arms. "I guess I don't need to slice you in two today."
I let out a small smile. "A wise decision."
While all eyes were on us, I noticed Luffy, Nami, and Koby quietly slipping away at the back of the square. Luffy was waving wildly at Koby, laughing silently, while Nami took advantage of the distraction to search through the rubble for treasure, as always.
I turned back to the mayor. "I'm not a hero… but I don't like pirates who destroy everything in their path."
The mayor nodded, his gratitude still shining in his eyes. "It doesn't matter who you really are. Today, you helped us. And that's all that matters."
I took a step back, letting my Heartless spread out across the island, their mission complete. "They'll take care of your island," I said.
Then, without another word, I sank into the ground, vanishing as the villagers began to busy themselves rebuilding—quickly joined by Heartless Soldiers who helped clear the rubble.
(Author's note: Yes, Baggy was pretty strong, but considering his past and the fact that he was part of a crew from the New World, it makes sense that he picked up a few tricks. And that wraps up this week's inspiration!)
