One Piece: Heaven-Defying Talent

Chapter 183: Chapter 184: Birdcage

A thick, white pillar of silk shot into the sky, towering above Dressrosa. From its peak, countless branches of thread extended outward, forming a dome-like structure that resembled an umbrella's frame. The dense, white threads cascaded downward like the branches of a weeping willow, spreading in all directions.

In mere moments, the entire island was encased in this intricate lattice of threads, creating a deadly "Birdcage." The threads were close-knit and unbreakable, entrapping Dressrosa within a prison of silk—even Rebecca was ensnared.

Outside the Birdcage, Doflamingo laughed with dark satisfaction.

"Let's see how you escape this time, you pesky girl!" he sneered, glancing at Rebecca with twisted glee.

Doflamingo had channeled the full strength of his String-String Fruit into this construct, infusing it with Armament Haki and even Conqueror's Haki. He was confident that no flame, no matter how intense, could burn through his Birdcage.

Across Dressrosa, residents and fighters alike were becoming aware of the trap closing in around them. Pirates hoping to flee the island swung their swords at the Birdcage, only to discover the threads were as hard as steel, resisting even the sharpest blades. Slowly, the Birdcage began to contract, slicing through the land with ruthless precision.

On the island's edge, Jozu carried Lao G over his shoulder, planning to bring him back as a trophy to exchange for one of Chiba's high-quality weapons. Despite not being a swordsman, Jozu knew the value of Chiba's goods. But as he approached the shore, he noticed that the entire perimeter was blocked by the unyielding silk threads, spaced just ten centimeters apart.

Jozu set Lao G down and attempted to force the threads apart with his bare hands, but they wouldn't budge. Frustrated, he charged at the threads with full force, only to find them completely unyielding. Scratching his head, Jozu muttered, "This Doflamingo…he's really something if even I can't break these threads."

Nearby, Cavendish arrived with his own spoils, hoping to exchange them for a prized weapon at Chiba's shop, perhaps a new, finely crafted sword. But, like Jozu, he found himself thwarted by the Birdcage. Unfazed, he drew his western sword and swung it against the threads.

Ding! The blade bounced off with a metallic clang, as if he'd struck steel.

"What are these threads?" Cavendish muttered in astonishment. Even his sword, which had cut through so many foes, could not penetrate the Birdcage. Watching as the structure continued to contract, he began to feel uneasy. If the Birdcage kept closing, everyone on the island would be crushed.

Looking toward the center of Dressrosa, he saw the towering white pillar from which all the threads originated. But even from a distance, he could tell that breaking it would be impossible.

Elsewhere, in a hidden part of Dressrosa, Monet the Snow Maiden was swiftly guiding a young girl through the streets. The girl was Sugar, a vital member of Doflamingo's crew. Though defenseless in combat, her Devil Fruit ability was the backbone of Doflamingo's control over Dressrosa, as it allowed her to transform people into obedient toys. Politicians, Marines, pirates, and even nobles who dared to defy Doflamingo had been reduced to toys by Sugar's power.

Knowing Sugar's value, Doflamingo had entrusted her safety to his most loyal followers. But with the island in turmoil, Monet took on the responsibility of protecting her and ensuring her escape.

As they made their way to the port, a small group of Tontatta dwarves crossed their path, only to be quickly shooed away by the imposing Monet. They pressed onward, reaching a pirate ship.

"Set sail and get us out of here," Monet commanded urgently.

But as they prepared to board, a familiar voice stopped her in her tracks. "And where do you think you're going?"

Monet turned, eyes widening. Standing before her was Chiba, the rumored genius who could create anything. Smiling calmly, he stood alongside several Tontatta dwarves who, familiar with the island's hidden routes, had led him straight to Sugar's escape point.

Seeing Chiba, Monet's expression darkened with fear. She knew that fighting him was futile. Still, she activated her Devil Fruit power, summoning a chill around herself—not as an attack, but as a small, protective reflex.

Chiba regarded her with a gentle smile. "Monet, it's been a while. Doflamingo's reign is over—why stay loyal to a sinking ship?"

He turned his gaze to Sugar. "You know, I could use someone with your skills. How about you join me, Monet? I'm in need of a secretary, and I think you'd be perfect for the role."

Monet glanced at Sugar, whispering urgently, "When I give the signal, use your powers and run."

Sugar looked up at Chiba, wide-eyed with curiosity. "Are you the Chiba who can create anything?"

Chiba chuckled, nodding. "And you must be Sugar, the one who can turn people into toys."

Sugar's eyes widened in surprise as she nodded cautiously.

Chiba's smile broadened. "How about it, Sugar? If you come with me, I can make all sorts of interesting things for you."
