Chapter 8: 8- To The West Blue
Relaxing on the merchant ship heading towards the upside down mountain, I was thinking about my future plans. Since I needed to keep my devil fruit power hidden, I mainly intended to rely on my physical strength and sword to fight. Yes, it did greatly weaken my strength, but I was just an ordinary guard on a merchant ship in the four seas—my strength was more than enough for this.
Well, my plans were quite simple to be honest. By 1499, I wanted to be in east blue. For now, that was the only goal. As for improving my swordsmanship, reaching the level of swordsman required one to comprehend the breath of all things and be able to unleash flying slashes. Breath of all things might be somewhat related to observation haki, so I planned to look into that and try to understand it on my own.
For me, swordsmanship wasn't meant to be something fancy. It was better to be like Roger—just swing a sword and add haki and stuff. I would also add conceptual powers like time, space and reality in it, so I didn't need to learn any particular type of swordsmanship.
My requirements were simply: more strength and more speed. Even strength could be ignored—only the speed of flying slash did truly matter, since the addition of concepts would more than make up for the strength. So just swinging the sword continuously after learning flying slashes should do the trick.
"There are pirates!!!! Pirates are coming!!!"
The lookout started shouting frantically, warning everyone. As a guard, this was my cue to get ready. I took my sword, the very same one which had accompanied me from the start of my life in this world. I went to the deck of the ship and soon saw the pirates—they were rapidly approaching us.
"It's the Bloody Demon Pirates!! Their captain, Bloody Sword Marco, has a bounty of 20 million… We're doomed! They are known for their cruelty—they'll kill us all, they never leave any survivors!" someone on the deck was shouting.
Well, at least he said all the common information. I guess in the world of One Piece, there always exists a guy who is there just to announce the name. Now, I just have to wait till they are close, and then engage. I could kill them with ease with my devil fruit without even moving an inch, but then I would have to dispose of all the merchants too, just to make sure that news of my abilities doesn't get leaked.
So I waited while cannons flared from both sides, but like all times, the aiming was shit. I don't know how they do it, but the cannon shot almost never hits, and even when they do, it is just some small damage. I guess you need to be called God Usopp to sink ships with cannonballs. But well, after some time the pirates started to jump onto the ship through ropes. Guess it's my time to take action.
I ran towards the pirates and with a single swing of my sword, cut down two minions with ease. Around 10 grunts noticed this and charged at me. Well, as you might have expected, I toyed with them, killing with ease. Yes, I now saw killing people little different from animals. I didn't mind it much—maybe it was just this world growing its customs on me.
Seeing Alexander's strong display, one of the cadres of the Bloody Demon Pirates, Bloody Fist Derek, ran towards him with his fists clenched. He wore spiked knuckles and was famous for leaving his fists blood-red every time he went to a battle. Alexander, noticing him, swung his sword at him, which Derek dodged with ease. This was one of Alexander's current flaws—he was really at a basic level with his sword.
"You don't think killing a few grunts makes you strong, right? I am going to blast that pretty face of yours with my fists! My fists haven't gotten red yet—I will use your blood to soak them red this time!" Derek shouted like a madman.
Alexander's requirements were just to hide his devil fruit powers and not anything else, and he was already pissed with Derek's shout. So with a smirk on his face, a glint appeared in his eyes. Derek swung his fist with a shout and all his might, but relying on his observation haki, he evaded it with ease. With another swing, Derek was split into two.
The scene shocked the pirates. Derek had a bounty of 10 million and was among the strongest in the crew. Seeing him die so fast scared all the pirates. Even Marco, the captain, was alert, but he knew that if anyone had a chance of victory, it was him—no one else in the crew stood a chance against Alexander.
Marco took his sword in one hand and a heavy metal shield in the other hand. "You're strong. You killed Derek. If you want to live, join my crew, or I will shred you into pieces myself!" Bloody Sword Marco threatened, compelling Alexander to think whether he was retarded. Without much nonsense, Alexander simply punched Marco. Due to his fast speed, Marco could only put up his shield to defend against it.
"BOOM!!" With a loud bang, Marco was shot back to the pirate ship, leaving a big crater. His life and death unknown, the other pirates were scared out of their minds seeing this scene and ran back to their ship in fear. They sailed away in a frenzy, fearing that Alexander might rush up and hack them into pieces.
The guards and the merchants on the ship were shocked at the scene. They had almost started to give up any hope of survival when I beat the pirates away. Their shock was understandable. "Mr. Alexander, thank you for saving us all. We thought that we would surely die today. Please accept this as a gift from me." The head merchant, Grandell, thanked me and offered me a box which contained 10 million berries… Well, at least he was sincere.
The rest of the journey was mostly uneventful, and soon we reached the upside-down mountain. I stood up on the deck and saw the scene with shock—a scene which might make Newton rise from the grave just to complain about it. The upside-down river, which actually went up the mountain, was quite fascinating to see—this unique scene would have been otherwise impossible to see in my old world.
And as you may have expected, I wasn't the protagonist of the show. Therefore, we passed the mountain and reached west blue without any hindrance. Now was the time to go to Ohara from here, which… surprisingly was quite easy. Since I said to Grandell in a small talk that I was going to go to Ohara, he offered to take me there as gratitude.
And that, my friends, is how I hitchhiked a free ride to the land of wisdom of the world of pirates—the place where I would reside for the next few years to come, with many goals in mind. Now's study time.
