Chapter 20: chapter 20:Meeting of sorcerers

In a lavishly decorated office, five teenagers stood erect, listening to the speech of the man standing on the other side.

"You have to make us proud and defeat those sorceresses whatever it takes do you understand?"

"Yes Chancellor!"

All five boys responded in unison.

The chancellor swept his gaze across the five, resting his gaze on Sorel before focusing on Viltz and saying with an encouraging smile.

"Vilgefortz, Sorel, you are the most outstanding students of this batch and i hope you will be able to showcase all of your talents in this competition."

Viltz and Sorel nodded and left the chancellor's office along with the others.

Arriving in the garden, they were met by Vice Chancellor Mardin and Professor Artorius, who opened a portal through which they all entered together.

When they reached the other side of the portal, they found themselves standing in the middle of a large hall where 6 young women were standing, headed by a woman who appeared to be about 30 years old.

The Vice Chancellor and Professor Artorius approached the woman and greeted her with friendly smiles.

"Good morning Tissaia, you look as lovely as ever."

The vice rector grabbed Tissaia's hand and gave her a light kiss.

Viltz turned his attention to the woman, she had dark hair, softly combed, bright eyes and thin lips, on her shoulders rested a camaca cape adorned with dormouse fur that complemented her blue dress.

"So this is Tissaia, the rector of Aretuza, and the girl behind her must be Yennefer of Vengerberg, she seems to have already cured her deformities with magic."

Yennefer had locks of curly black hair that fell in a cascade of curls over her shapely shoulders.

Her face was very pale, triangular in shape with a slightly sunken chin.

She wore a heady perfume of lilacs and currants that could reach Viltz's nostrils even though he was more than five meters away.

His purple eyes were cold and sparkling with a remarkably violent and piercing gaze, in a rage that burned with a livid fire.

Those same eyes also concealed wisdom and imperiousness.

Yennefer's nose was a bit long, her mouth was pale with thin, slightly crooked lips.

From her long, slender neck hung a black marigold with an obsidian star glittering with a multitude of tiny diamonds embedded in it.

She had pronounced cheekbones, slightly uneven natural eyebrows trimmed by hand and enhanced with charcoal, long eyelashes and small hands. Even in high heels she was not tall, she was beautiful but menacing, she had an incredibly slender and slender waist and legs.

As beautiful as she appeared to be, if one looked closely one could notice that her shoulders were slightly crooked, a remnant of her previous hunchback.

As Viltz watched her, she watched him as well.

The two looked at each other with confident smiles as sparks seemed to fly from their eyes and clash in the air, both knew the other was number one in their respective academics and neither was willing to lose in this competition.

Artaud nudged Viltz and whispered in his ear: "Hey Vilgefortz, we all noticed that that sorceress is quite beautiful but don't you think you should calm down that intense look of yours a bit? The rector of Aretuza is looking at you as if she wants to skin you.

"Eh?", Viltz, surprised, shifted his gaze to Tissaia and found her looking at him as if he was a piece of dead meat.

Smiling awkwardly, Viltz looked away.

"Haa, women, i didn't even do anything wrong and you're already looking at me with daggers."

"Looks like everyone is excited for today's event." Tissaia commented as she swept her gaze over the male students.

"I just hope this year you guys don't totally lose face like in previous years."

Mardin beat his chest and spoke proudly.

"This year my students will crush your little female students, i have been preparing them for years, besides if any of them dare not give their all there will be hell waiting for them when we return."

Mardin swept his cold gaze over the group, making them shudder at the thought of the Vice Chancellor's punishments.

The boys could only nod stiffly at his words, determined in their minds to do their best so that this devil would have no excuse to punish them.

"Well, we'd better get started." Tissaia started walking to the other side of the great hall and up the stairs, followed by Mardin and Artorius, leaving the group of students on the floor below.

The three of them made their way up to the second floor, where there was a large open terrace that looked directly into the great hall.

The three sorcerers sat down in a seat each, leaving a group of seats empty.

"They're still not coming?" Artorius asked.

"They'il be here in a moment." Tissaia replied.

A few seconds later, several portals began to open one by one, through which luxuriously dressed men and women began to emerge.

Each of the people that came out of the portals sat down in their respective seats while they greeted the rest.

Viltz looked up and looked at the group of sorcerers and sorceresses seated in the various seats divided into large and small seats.

In the center sat the Chancellor of his academy, Gerhart of Alle, and flanking him were Artorius and Mardin along with Tissaia, followed by two sorcerers that Viltz knew very well, the first was Stregobor and the one sitting next to him was the man responsible for bringing him to this academy, the sorcerer Zavist.

Viltz did not recognize any of the five sorcerers sitting in the smaller seats.

"It seems that this event is quite important to the sorcerer's brotherhood, both chapter members and council members have come, even Chancellor Gerhart came to witness the event."

The sorcerers' brotherhood was the pas powerful magical organization in the northern kingdoms and was in charge of setting the various regulations on anything involving magic, and institutions such as Aretuza, Ban Ard or Rissberg were directly controlled by it.

The brotherhood was divided into two groups of 5 wizards: the Chapter of Gift and Art and the Council of Wizards.

The Chapter had the highest hierarchy and the Council the lowest, but the latter still exercised significant authority in the Brotherhood. The Chapter focused more on helping the Brotherhood administer and regulate magical practitioners while the Council focused on magical experiments, research, and expanding magical knowledge.

"Well, we can begin."

The chancellor clapped his hands and the lights in the hall focused in one place, forming a circle of light in the center the hall.

One of the girls from Aretuza's group was the first to stand inside the circle of light.

The young woman walked with a natural grace, her green eyes were bright and her short black hair gave her a unique charm.

The young woman gave a small bow and introduced herself:" I am Frigilla Vigo and my presentation will be about illusion magic and its various applications."

Tissaia handed a document to each of the wizards seated upstairs, who opened it and began to review each of the pages.

Artorius smiled as he reviewed the document and great pride could be seen in his eyes as he looked at the young woman who was none other than his own niece.

Five minutes later, Tissaia stood up and spoke to the young woman.

"Go ahead Frigilla, you may begin to explain in detail your research."

Fringilla bowed and began to talk about her research while conjuring up different illusions that marveled one's eyesight.

After fifteen uninterrupted minutes, Fringilla finally finished explaining.

Giving an elegant bow to the senior wizards, she withdrew from the circle of light.

Everyone applauded Fringilla, causing a big smile to form on her mouth.

"Wonderful, your understandings of illusion magic are truly impressive and your talent with it can match that of your uncle Artorius, it seems your family is naturally gifted when it comes to illusions."

Chancellor Gerhart clapped his hands and sincerely praised the young woman beneath him.

"You flatter us sir."

Artorius said in a humble tone but the smile on his face betrayed his satisfaction.

The chancellor clapped his hands and shouted, "Next!"

Next to pass was Artaud, whose presentation was about possible applications for dimeritium ore, although it was somewhat interesting, as it was only theories and as Artaud's work paled in comparison to Fringilla's, in the end the enthusiasm of the senior wizards died down a bit.

After Artaud it was the turn of the other youngsters until only Yennefer and another beautiful young blonde on Aretuza's side and Viltz and Sorel on Ban Ard's side remained.
