Chapter 2391: City Filled with Greed I

"If you guys want to escape, I can just teleport us out of this place easily." Adrian stated as it seems that the danger level escalated too quickly.

"No, if we die then the least, we could do is verify the existence of the Primordial Beast of Greed. We came here for that and leaving without affirming it would be a disservice to my great acting skills." Peridot replied as a somewhat lighthearted joke, but she cannot hide that she is a bit afraid.

"We just need to stay alert always. We can drop the act if we are cornered as we can just act like we just transformed into the nobles you are impersonating." Adrian added.

"Guys, the air is tense outside." Kabrakan reported as he could feel that the air outside of the carriage became colder and heavier.

"Is there anything else that you have noticed?" Adrian asked but he also noticed it too late.

"The street is quiet." Kabrakan added.

"The life forces I detect are not as many compared to when we entered the city." Adrian reported and the things that they have feared came true.

The area they were in is suddenly enveloped in a burst of light as lines of magical symbols activated. A formation that shifted all of the living beings inside of it has been activated. The formation that activated did not harm civilians but sent Immortals that have at least a 100 Year Energy Level cultivation into account.

Aside from the cultivators, the carriage that they were in is transported as well. The guards that the Murim Alliance sent to secretly protect them suddenly surrounded the carriage. The guards of the Murim Alliance announced that they have been sent inside of a terrifyingly large formation. They told Levin Cloud and Peridot that they will protect them while the leader of the guards finds a way to dismantle the formation.

"We have been trapped inside a formation again?! Did you detect it like before?" Levin Cloud asked Adrian directly via speech as the absurdity of it happening again made him forget to use the group chat.

"No. I did not detect it activating at all. It seems that the one that created the formation is a master compared to the one we defeated earlier." Adrian replied.

Just as they were chatting, a powerful blast of energy suddenly fell on the carriage. Kabrakan immediately jumped towards the roof of the carriage and blocked the incoming attack. The heaviness of the attack made Kabrakan unable to steady his footing as a roof of a carriage is not something that can be a good foothold.

The carriage could not withstand the weight of Kabrakan and the attack which inevitably destroyed it. The carriage exploded into pieces, but Kabrakan managed to protect Levin Cloud and Peridot from the attack. The attacks did not stop there as talismans suddenly materialized on top of them and fired off elemental blasts of varying power and intensity.

Kabrakan slammed his shields to the ground and an earth barrier protected all of them from the attacks. The guards that surrounded them were shocked that a powerful defensive cultivator was in their midst as the attacks that were aimed at them were difficult to even detect. The guards could barely react as the sudden elemental bursts were spontaneous that only someone at the level of their guard leaders could react against them.

"Where is the attacker?" Kabrakan stated as he could not detect the one that fired off the attack.

Kabrakan wanted to use his Elemental Counter skill earlier to send the attack back to the owner, but he needed visual confirmation first. He cannot redirect an attack that he did not see who the source is from. Adrian extended all of his senses, but it was incredibly odd because he cannot detect the one that attacked them.

"Can you teleport us out of here?" Peridot asked Adrian.

"I could but that would need me in absolute concentration for at least twenty minutes. The one that did this formation is also skilled in messing with the spatial energy in this place. It seems that they might have tapped into a ley line in order to create such a large formation." Adrian replied which shocked the guards as the dog they were pampering could suddenly speak.

"Hand over the unbound teleportation scroll and we shall escort you out." A leader from a group of Immortals stated as they came to their location.

It was not just them but there were other Immortals that came to their location as well. All of the Immortals wanted to get the unbound teleportation scroll from them. If they do give it then they will be assured when it comes to safety and Adrian could detect that the strength of the Immortals was at least the Nascent Soul stage. They were strong but they were also influenced by the being that might have trapped them inside of this huge formation that replicated the entire city of Kunlun.

"They are all being affected by a malicious energy. An energy that I am very familiar with because I devoured something like it. We need to redirect their malicious energy and intentions to our advantage." Adrian stated as he looked at Peridot.

"The one that will enable us to escape from this formation will have the unbound teleportation scroll. Do we have a deal?" Peridot announced and all the Immortals that heard it had this glint in their eyes that the scroll will be theirs.

"Does Lady Firefeather dare to vow that to the heavens?" One of the Immortals asked.

"I vow to the heavens that I will give the treasure that you all seek to the one that gets me and my companions out of here." Peridot declared without any problems.

Adrian did not really care much about the Unbound Teleportation Scroll as he could just make one again. The process might be tedious, and elders do stop him from giving such prized items, but they needed to use this leverage. If they did not promise such a thing then the greed of all the Immortals that were caught up in the formation with them might lead to infighting.

"Nice job." Adrian praised Peridot for getting the thoughts that he wanted to convey.

"Lady Firefeather has spoken. She will gift the item to whoever finds a way out of this formation." The Immortal that asked the question announced.

If there is one thing that Immortals like is that they should always stick to their word. The fact that Peridot even vowed to the heavens basically guarantees that the winner will be given the reward. If she did not give the reward, then she will suffer the punishment of the heavens. Since Peridot is a Ryujin, the punishment will be harsher if she does not keep her word.

The greed that was directed at them that was ready to destroy them is now directed to a way of getting out of this situation. The Immortals might be people that have endured lots of battles, but they also need wit and intelligence to become powerful cultivators. They decided that finding a way out would be the most beneficial way of getting the scroll instead of stealing it by force.

If the Immortals steal the scroll by force from Adrian's group, then they would still need to deal with Kabrakan. Also, even if they get the scroll, the number of Immortals around is not something that just one group can handle. The start of a bloodbath would occur should they pursued their greed and attempted to steal the scroll.

"It seems that the plan to insight them with greed has failed." The Grand Formation Master Keisei stated.

"That small dog! He can smell the greed of the people there! He has attained a part of me!" The Primordial Beast of Greed stated as he can feel every living being inside of the formation and he narrowed down a specific energy from Adrian.

The Primordial Beast of Greed felt the small spark that he would have overlook if not for the fact that the dog was able to speak. The Primordial Beast of Greed did not know the origins of the dog though, but he also wanted to attain it. Beasts that could talk can attain the power of a divine beast after all and a beast that has the same attribute as it seemed interesting.

"The Murim Alliance Leader has already started to destroy the barrier." The Grand Formation Master Keisei stated.

"He cannot destroy that with his strength when I am using the power of greed as a source for your barrier. The best that he could do is scratch such a thing. Even if he does break it, the scroll will become mine as I have already sent him to kill everyone inside of it. Not only will the scroll be mine, but also the bodies of powerful Immortals that can be refurbished to do my bidding." The Primordial Beast of Greed stated with a sinister smile as his eyes glowed yellow.
