Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Kakashi Always Randomly Throws Things into Kamui Space
Obito slowly pulled out the specially made kunai that Minato-sensei had prepared for him.
Actually, after completing the first two steps, he already felt that he was not far from mastering the Flying Thunder God Technique.
The final step of the Flying Thunder God was very similar to his Kamui—it was all about sensing space and moving to the corresponding location.
Moreover, the Flying Thunder God also required a physical mark as a bridge, while his Kamui even omitted that step.
Essentially, Kamui was superior to the Flying Thunder God, an even more advanced space-time ninjutsu. Even Minato-sensei had admitted this.
So, what seemed to Minato like the most difficult step was, in contrast, something Obito had already used countless times before. Naturally, it felt as simple as eating and drinking.
Obito even started to think—could he eliminate the need for a Flying Thunder God seal altogether and just teleport out of thin air like Kamui?
However, this was not something easy to achieve. Both the Second Hokage and Minato-sensei were geniuses, yet neither managed to accomplish it.
If he wanted to continue developing this, he might need the help of Kamui. So, should he capture a White Zetsu soon and exchange it with Orochimaru?
Only by transplanting Hashirama's cells and using his eyes without any side effects would many things become much easier…
While Obito was deep in thought, Minato couldn't help but laugh, "Obito, I originally thought that even if you could learn the Flying Thunder God, it would take several years. I didn't expect your talent to be even more terrifying than I imagined."
"The step I thought was the hardest, you actually crossed it in an instant. Mastering the Flying Thunder God at nine years old—this is something even the Second Hokage would find unbelievable."
"Next, we just need to apply it in actual combat. I will give you specialized training until you are proficient. But that's for later."
"Team Seven, gather!", Minato called out loudly.
Nearby, Kakashi and Rin, who had been training, came over.
Rin asked with concern, "Minato-sensei, how is the training going with Obito? Is there a problem with the third stage?"
Kakashi also showed a curious expression. He knew firsthand how difficult it was to learn the Flying Thunder God. Even he couldn't master it, so he wondered how far Obito had gotten.
Minato smiled bitterly, "Maybe, probably, perhaps Obito has already completely learned the Flying Thunder God."
""What?"" Rin and Kakashi stared at each other in disbelief.
"He already… learned it?", Kakashi felt like he was in a dream. Everything seemed so unreal.
Seeing their reactions, Minato could only laugh, "Rin, Kakashi, I also didn't believe it at first. I thought I was dreaming, but it's the truth. I was just as shocked as you."
"But… since Obito has already mastered the Flying Thunder God, it's time for us to move forward."
"Move forward?", Rin and Kakashi were momentarily stunned before realizing what he meant.
Even Rin's breathing quickened, "Minato-sensei, are you saying… we can take on more advanced missions?"
Lately, they had been doing the most basic, low-level missions, which was getting a bit boring. Both Rin and Kakashi wanted to improve.
Minato nodded, "That's right. We've completed enough D-rank missions to qualify for an upgrade. I will report to the Hokage, and starting tomorrow, our mission rank will be raised."
"Is that so?", Kakashi perked up a bit. He could finally return to the mission level he was used to.
"Alright then, Obito, Rin, Kakashi—today, take a break. Adjust your mindset. Many C-rank missions require us to leave the village, sometimes for ten days or even half a month at a time. Be sure to prepare accordingly," Minato gave them a serious reminder.
The group nodded, and Minato then disappeared with the Body Flicker Technique.
As soon as he left, Rin and Kakashi both looked at Obito.
Obito was confused, "Why… are you both staring at me like that?"
Rin asked, "Obito, you traveled around the ninja world for over ten years, right? You should have a lot of experience with this kind of thing."
Thinking about his past life, Obito smiled bitterly, "In my past life, I was focused on executing the Eye of the Moon Plan. Most of the time, I slept in hidden caves without even a bed—I'd just collapse and sleep."
"I do have experience with roughing it in the wild, but… I don't think that suits our team, does it?"
Rin's gaze dimmed slightly, "So you lived like that for so long… Obito, that must have been hard. You can't live like that in this life. At least bring a bed into your Kamui space—it's so safe there, and you wouldn't have to worry about wild animals dragging you away in your sleep."
Obito chuckled, then gave Kakashi a strange look, "You'll have to ask Kakashi about that. He used to randomly throw things into my Kamui space—severed limbs, bombs, kunai… I'd be scared of sleeping in there and suddenly getting blown up."
Rin giggled. Since Obito had explained the abilities of double Kamui, she understood that Kakashi's Kamui was mainly for transferring objects.
Obito pondered for a moment, "But Rin's idea is good. If I could transplant Hashirama's cells and use Kamui without side effects, the Kamui space could indeed become a secret base for us. It would be excellent for both survival and logistics."
"For now, we should just use sealing scrolls to carry extra food and tents. That will make our travels more comfortable. I'm actually starting to admire Yamato's abilities. That 'Three-Room-One-Hall' jutsu is really useful."
Kakashi looked exasperated, "Obito, do you know how expensive sealing scrolls are? Especially large-capacity ones? Using them for daily necessities is a bit excessive, isn't it?"
Obito thought of Fugaku's face and smirked, "Don't worry. I can get my hands on some sealing scrolls easily. So from now on, Rin will prepare medical supplies, I'll handle the sealing scrolls, and Kakashi—you'll be in charge of food. To be honest, I really want to eat your grilled fish again."
Rin smiled, "No problem. I'll make sure to have plenty of healing medicine and soldier pills ready."
Kakashi, feeling helpless, said, "We're leaving the village to do missions, not to go on a vacation. Some dry rations will be enough."
Obito immediately objected, "No way. If we can eat well, why settle for less? I don't mind roughing it, but I won't let Rin suffer."
Rin looked at Obito with a soft smile, her cheeks turning pink. At the very least, with her around, Obito could learn to enjoy life.
Kakashi, realizing he couldn't argue with Obito, sighed, "Fine… A few fish, huh? I'll cook them. But just fish isn't enough for all of us, including Minato-sensei. We'll need proper bento meals too—I can't make those."
Obito suddenly looked down, his expression dimming.
Rin, noticing right away, asked gently, "Obito, what's wrong? Did you remember something unpleasant again?"
Obito forced a smile, "Minato-sensei will prepare the bento. In my past life, every time we went out, we'd always have delicious bento meals."
Rin's eyes lit up. She had always loved good food. She could make bentos herself, but she was now curious—what kind of bentos did Minato-sensei make?
But then, she hesitated, "Wait… Was the bento made by Sensei… or by Sensei's wife?"
Obito didn't say anything. He just lowered his head, remaining silent.
The atmosphere suddenly became heavy.
Kakashi stepped forward and patted Obito's shoulder, "So this time, Obito… you better not do anything inhuman again. Otherwise, forget about Sensei's wife—Rin and I wouldn't forgive you either."
