Nuclear Winter

Chapter 2: Ch2. The devil needs company too

"Um, Alex, my names Alex."

Alex looked at Boone standing before him, his first companion and his favorite.

"So Boone what brings you out this way?

Standing up off the dead body he was sitting on Alex wiped his vomit off his lip.

"Family matters" Boone seemed to shake as he said that, it took a second for Alex to realize why he was here overlooking cottonwood cove.

"Care to elaborate Boone?"

Narrowing his eyes at the former 1st recon sniper in a piss poor attempt to intimidate him, Alex watched the sniper slowly move around him to some rocks that over looked cottonwood cove.

Taking up his rifle and aiming at the large legion camp in the distance Boone sighed.

"There on the far left side of the camp across from the main building in a slave pen, blonde hair and blue eyes sitting in the corner."

Taking his rifle and aiming it he indeed saw a beautiful blonde girl in her early twenties that looked four-ish months pregnant.

"That's my wife, she was kidnapped from our home in Novac, I was hoping to intercept them before they got to cottonwood."

Pulling back the bolt on his rifle and chambering a round, Boone's shaking hand steadied as he took aim at the only person he's ever loved.

Just as he was about too pull the trigger, a hand shot out and jerked the rifles barrel upwards.

"The hell are you doing Alex!" Boone looked over at the man glaring at him.

"Could ask you the same fucking question Boone! Way too many legionnaires in that camp for you too take them on with that bolt action, which only means one thing and I hope I'm wrong in assuming it." Alex glared at Boone and this time his malice got through to Boone causing the man to flinch.

"I know but fuck! What can I do? I can't just waltz or sneak in that camp and get her out with that explosive collar on, and like you said I can't kill them all fast enough from here without them killing all the slaves or rushing me. I'm out of time and options and if she goes across that river then it's all over! The shit they'd make her do! She'd be sold as a bed slave with her beauty or given to a bunch of legionnaires as a plaything after my child's born, this way I can at least end her suffering before it begins."

Upon hearing that Alex had to fight the urge to sucker punch Boone in the jaw, only reason he succeeded is because he had a point, if Boone was alone like he originally was supposed to be that is.

"Let me properly introduce myself Boone, My name is Alexander Sinclair, former NCR veteran ranger, a specialist in infiltration, sabotage, extermination and bedazzling."

Smiling Alex lift his hand as blue particles suddenly revealed a stealth boy.

"When you hold your new born for the first time you better fucking name them after me for the bullfuckery I'm definitely going to go through for you in the next 15 hours."

Boones eyes widened in surprise as he looked at Alex and a thought flashed through his mind.

"Do you know the Reno Reaper?"

Alex clicked his tongue and looked away while he rolled his eyes at Boone.

"Seriously hate that damn code name, you preform one massacre and boom, your now death incarnate. You know before that they called me Sand Wraith, Blood Baron, the shape and Mr.Vault77, Always with the nicknames."

Looking back at Boone, Alex sighed, he knew getting in that camp would be relatively easy, but getting out would be difficult if he needed to bring the pregnant Carla, so he decided on a very bad idea.

"There's a mine field on the opposite side of the legions camp leading to an old camp ground, it's to keep the lakelurks away, I need to go and dig up a few for my plan to work."

Boone raised an eyebrow at Alex's remark about needing explosives. "Well no need for that I got you covered there." Suddenly taking off his backpack and opening it, revealing six five pound blocks of silly putty's more serious cousin, C4.

"What the fuck Boone…" Alex went wide eyed as he stared at the backpack of death.

"Yeah figured they would start chasing me after… well that they would chase me, so decided to leave a few surprises here and there to slow them down and hopefully send more then a few too hell."

Alex looked at Boone who had a self deprecating smile as he scratched the back of his neck.

"Well Boone, with these in hand you're wife will be free by dawn. Now all we need to do is wait for night fall and we're good. I'll take first watch, we'll rotate every hour, if they try to move the slaves before it gets dark…we'll go with your original plan."

~~9 hours later- 12am~~

Looking up at the night sky at the stars, Alex wondered what was the reason for him being sent to this world, or was there one? He wasn't miserable in his last world, wasn't happy either, but couldn't complain. So why him? It had been bothering him as he was left with his own thoughts for almost seven hours, turns out Boone was a horrible conversationalist.

I mean what kind of being could create an entire world/universe for a random if not above slightly average joe in human history, or was it just random luck? The more he thought about it the more frustrating it seemed till he gave up and excepted his new reality and summoned his Pipboy Evo screen to check the time.

Sitting up and looking over at Boone who was now using the Gobi mk2 for its night vision, Alex got up to his feet and dusted himself off.

"Alright Boone it's time, remember the plan? If shit hits the fan I'll try my best to get her out, but if not possible, brain us both."

As much as he hates it this wasn't a game anymore, he'd rather die then get captured, he's seen what happens when a soldier gets captured by an enemy with zero morals, he would appreciate the bullet to the head.

Looking down at the legion camp he could see about a dozen bonfires and the main building lit up. Patting Boone on the back he smiled, "treat my rifle like you would a small child, I'll be back in no time for her, she gets hungry and it's about time I let her feast."

Taking the backpack he opened it up before sticking his hand in and all the packs of C4 disappeared. "Don't think I'll get use too seeing that, mighty handy gadget though I must say." Boone kept staring at the backpack and Alex's hand.

"Yeah it made me popular on covert missions and during long range scouting, makes things disappear or lets me carry a ton of supplies, has its drawbacks though, not many but their there." Suddenly the stealth boy appeared in his hand, strapping it to his left arm he started the stealth boy up and felt like a wet towel was being dragged over him as he started to disappear.

"Hey Boone! Does this invisibility field make my ass look fat?" Boone tried to hold in his chuckle but simply couldn't, he appreciated Alex's humor, it livened up a bleak situation. "Would you hold it against me if I said it did?" Boone couldn't help but quip back at his new friend. Yes Boone considered Alex a friend, you don't have a choice but to consider a man a friend when he's about to do something extremely dangerous for you when he doesn't have too.

"Yes, I believe I would, so lie to me damn it!"

Alex chuckling left down the hill before Boone could hurt his feelings, he needed to get into the camp and set up his plan quickly.

15 minutes later Alex was on the outskirts of the legion camp, he got up and darted towards some of the tents in the distance after a small 5 man patrol passed by him. It only took a few seconds to make it to the large green military tents, they seemed to be a makeshift mess hall of sorts as he heard a few legionnaires laughing as they ate and joked around.

Sneaking around the tent Alex ignored the legionaries inside for now and continued through the camp towards the center, occasionally stopping and hiding in the shadows. Avoiding all light sources, Alex eventually made it to the last row of tents and could see the main building 30feet ahead.

A small patrol was passing and chatting causing Alex to eavesdrop on them.

"Tomorrow evening the forts sending 200 down to replace us on rotation and pulling all the new property we attained, can't wait to get back, maybe I'll see if I can have an hour with the pretty blonde we got yesterday." The tall legionary who spoke laughed as he finished his words, a lustful and disgusting look plastered on his face.

Alex fought the urge to simply toss some C4 at the bastards feet and send his asshole through his brain with the push of a button, in due time was the only comfort he could tell himself.

After the patrol of dead men walking wrapped around the building out of sight, Alex quickly darted up to the door, checking for locks or alarms and finding none, Alex scoffed at how arrogant the legion were when it came to security in their base. The fuckers were sure no one was brave enough to try and infiltrate them, they were oh so very wrong and it was gonna come to bite them in the ass.

Hearing a click as he opened the door handle, Alex slowly made his way into the lit room. It looked like an armory/communication hub for the camp. Dozens of different types of guns were leaned against one wall with dozens of crates of various goods. Ammo, MRE's, explosives, armor and many other bits and bobs could be seen. Much of it had been taken from sacked caravans or unfortunately captured civilians.

Sitting at a radio was a tall lean handsome man in scrap armor that looked like it was made from a dozen different armors, a centurion helmet was on the desk next to a map and stacks of papers, the man seemed busy as he scribbled something down on the map he was looking at.

Aurelius Phoenix.

Alex's eyes suddenly went dull as he stared at the tired looking man scribbling away at the map his attention was fully on.

A horrible memory played in his head as he slowly inched closer to the man while removing the tench knife from its boot sheath. Taking the knife and moving it an inch of the man's ear as the memory played back in full force.

"Hi my names Samantha, what's yours?" The voice of an angelic 15 year old girl played in his ears as he raised his right hand and pulled back as his left held the knife close to the unexpected centurions ear canal.

Her sobs and screams as she kicked the attempted rapist that was a decanus in his crotch causing him to curse at her and to drag her out where the bastard unaware of his impending doom sat scribbling away, was standing. The voice as the bastard ordered a hole dug and filled with razorwire, and for the young pleading girl to be tossed in.

Six hours of screaming for help, then painful moans followed by silence before the bastards filled the hole in front of the slaves, from that moment on no woman refused a legionaries advance and just laid there soulless as they were violated.

Alex however decided that he was going to kill them all.

EVERY. LAST. ONE.

Aurelius suddenly felt a chill down his spine and his heart nearly stopped as a hate filled voice cracking as it spoke resounded in his ears.

"HEr NaME Was SAMANTHA."

Suddenly swinging his right hand and striking the trench knife the seven inch blade went through the centurions ear and skull with a delightful crunch, the man jolted up and suddenly stumbled a few feet before collapsing, reaching up with failing strength to pull the knife out of the side of his head as he let our slurred groans and his eyes rolled back.

His body began to violently twitch as a pungent smell of shit and piss quickly spread out around him, losing control of his body's ability to control all his… faculties.

Alex simply watched the fucker twitch and jolt for two minutes as his mouth foamed and piss and blood spread out around the disgusting fuck as he died. After all signs of intelligence had faded a zip could be heard as a splashing sound followed by a loud sigh.

"Much better, been holding it in forever." Zipping up his fly after he relieved his bladder on a still warm pile of trash, Alex walked over and put his boot on the dead man's skull before reaching down and violently yanking out the trench knife.

Cleaning the knife he put it back in its boot sheath, before giving the dead body one last kick and spitting on it. Content with his action Alex began to calm down, when he finally returned to normal he looked around the room at all the loot laying around, a smile plastered on his face as he began to add it all into his inventory.

After taking anything of value not nailed down, a terminal on the far wall drew his attention.

Walking over Alex pulled out the keyboard and began to snoop on the device, a shit eating grin forming on his face as he found the thing he had come for.

Putting his hands near the terminals port a blue dull light began to overwrite the terminals authority to control various defenses in the camp, as well as the ability to control slave collars. The Pipboy Evo truly was a remarkable advance in technology that would have revolutionized the old world if it saw the mainstream market.

After transferring authority over to his Evo, Alex locked the terminal to stop anyone from setting off the collars when his plan truly began.

Looking around after he was done another blue light and six blocks of C4 appeared.

"The fireworks are gonna be beautiful."

Alex smiled as he mumbled before placing the boom putty.

//25 minutes later, snipers overlook//

Boone had been growing nervous as he watched the camp, his finger was itching as he saw the legionaries pass by the slave pens constantly mocking and leering at the women who wouldn't look up.

"Whatcha lookin at buddy."

Suddenly hearing a voice next to his ear Boone jolted and swung the rifle around, only to see the smiling face of Alex under the moon lit night.

"You crazy sneaking up on a man with a gun like that?! Could have shot you damn it!"

Alex simply cocked an eyebrow at Boones out burst, it was kinda funny seeing him lose that cool exterior of his.

Deciding to ignore it, Alex walked over to the overlook and brought out a medium sized cloth he had taken on his way back to the overlook, suddenly a green ammo box appeared and Alex dumped it out onto the cloth. 250 .308 rounds poured out onto the cloth.

Pulling out the spare mags for his rifle he placed them beside himself.

"You sure this will work?" Boone had a worried look on his face as he took another glance at the legion camp.

"As long as you keep my mags full it will, just like it worked in Reno."

Smiling and flicking the safety off Alex took aim at a legionary who was walking back from a latrine.

"Time for the devil to get some company."

*BANG*
