Chapter 6: Shurikenjutsu
The next few days were uneventful. At the academy, he felt like he was wasting his time as there really wasn't much he could do. At home, he practised hand to hand combat along with the clone technique and substitution technique. He also didn't skimp out on practising shurikenjutsu. (concealed hand blade techniques)
Days quickly passed and one week before the test, Benji announced the test's date while encouraging the kids to practice well.
Kira didn't sit still and continued to practice at home, while he slacked off at school. If Benji was teaching something that he didn't know, he would pay attention, but if he wasn't, Kira's thoughts wandered to making fighting plans for Kakashi.
'A little bit more and I'll have enough proficiency to use the two techniques during fights. It won't be extremely efficient, but it should be enough to get first place in the test.'
Three days later, in the Aburame clan's training area.
Kira stood face to face with his clone and with a simple hand sign, swapped places with it. Another hand sign later, he switched places again.
"It's not as great as Shisui's body flicker, but it'll do for now. I'll need better dynamic vision and it looks like I'll also have to increase my genjutsu talent to pull off Shisui's body flicker, so it'll have to wait." he muttered as he began doing squats.
Regular clones were intangible. Nothing could effect them physically and they could also not effect anything when considering the purely physical standpoint.
The clones couldn't see, smell, touch, hear or taste anything. This went both ways, as people couldn't hear, smell, touch or taste the clones, but they could "see" them. In other words, the regular clone technique was a genjutsu albeit a beginner one at that.
To create multiple clones, one would need to understand how the jutsu worked and properly control the clones so they could assist them in fights. If not, the clones would just copy the same exact actions as the user.
If Kira simply wanted his clones to copy his movements, he could just create 2 clones and be done with it. But if he wanted to control the clones, he needed better dynamic vision and chakra control. There were too many factors at play.
To make more than two clones, he'd need better genjutsu prowess and of course, chakra capacity, but that wasn't an issue for him.
The sun slowly went down and three more days quickly passed.
The next day, Benji gave them all a question paper and asked them to take the written exam.
Kira wrote diligently for a few minutes before glancing at his surrounding classmates, most of whom had troubled expressions on their faces.
'Only Kakashi is writing without an expression on his face. Genius indeed.' he thought as he went back to his paper.
He perfectly answered all the questions before submitting his paper and a few minutes later, Benji took everyone's answer sheets before heading out to grade them.
The class bustled with everyone talking about their answers, trying to figure out if their answers were right or wrong.
"Hey Kira, how did you write?" Asuma asked as he walked towards him with Kurenai in tow.
Kira gave them a satisfactory smile, "Pretty good!"
Kira happily looked at the two of them with his own thoughts in his mind while the two of them talked about the exam papers.
'Finally after a month, their chemistry is going well and it looks like Kurenai's romantic interest in me has gone down significantly.' he thought as he nodded to himself, but an hour later, Benji walked back to the classroom.
"Back to your seats, everyone. I didn't expect such bad results from you guys, this is just unacceptable. Getting above 90 is impressive, but getting single digit results are even more impressive." he said. His words said one thing, but his face was contorted from frustration.
He glared at Guy and then looked at Obito, "Guy and Obito Uchiha, 4 and 5 marks respectively. You two deserve to become the Hokage in the future. Very impressive grades, you two."
Then, he moved on to the other kids. Four students who got less than 40 marks, while most of the students hovered around the 60 to 85 marks range.
"Finally, the kids who did well. Kurenai Yuhi, eighty six. Everyone, a round of applause for her."
The kids dejectedly clapped for her and next, it was Asuma who got a whopping 90 marks. Next was Ren, who got a respectful 94 and then, it was Kira himself, with 100 marks.
"And lastly, Kakashi Hatake. Full Marks, keep it up."
Once the applause died down, he gave a worried glance to Guy and Obito before shaking his head slightly, "Line up and move out to the training field."
The next test was based on shurikenjutsu, the art of using throwing weapons.
Kira waited for his turn as his thoughts wandered once again.
'First exam was a draw but it doesn't matter. It's the last exam that matters for me as winning in the combat test is the only way to obtain an extra character point.'
As he was thinking about the near future, he saw Kakashi walk towards Benji and grab a few shuriken.
Unlike others, who took a good amount of time and threw the shuriken one by one, Kakashi method was just crazy. Crazy, but effective.
Six shuriken flew towards the different targets and all of them hit the bullseye, making the nearby girls squeal in excitement. Kakashi, ignoring all of them, grabbed three more shuriken with one hand and an extra one with his other hand.
Two more throws and the four shuriken also accurately hit the bullseye.
"Damn, he's good." Kira said with a wry smile on his face.
Asuma and Kurenai nodded in response, but their expressions were neutral. After all, even they managed to hit 10 bullseyes, but just not as flashily as Kakashi.
A minute later, it was Kira's turn and without any surprise, he got a full score. His technique was similar to kakashi's as he tossed out three shuriken with each hand, but the trajectory was very different.
While Kakashi's shuriken flew straight to the targets, Kira's curved in the air but still hit the mark accurately.
"Very good." Benji said, clearly impressed with his shurikenjutsu skills.
