Night of the Apocalypse

Chapter 17 - Massacre

“Someone’s been killed!”

The two female staff members, splattered with brain matter and blood, were terrified to the extreme, their eyes almost popping out, trembling all over.

Most of the others also had their eyes wide open, their faces filled with shock and sheer terror. They were all in a daze, unsure of what to do.

Of course, their reaction was understandable; there were thousands of people present, all of whom had grown up in the territory of the Red Alliance.

Having lived in a peaceful environment, they had likely never even seen a chicken killed, let alone witnessed such a bloody scene. The most advanced weapons they had encountered were kitchen knives, and they had never seen a real gun before.

Boom!

Suddenly, a figure jumped down from the third floor of an abandoned steel building in front of them.

Shen Qiu and the others were startled and looked over.

The figure that had fallen was not a person at all. Instead, it was a two-meter-tall black steel robot, with a body made of metal. Its head was shaped like a camera, with an infrared calibrator embedded on top. Its right mechanical arm was equipped with a fully automatic 9mm caliber firearm, and its humanoid legs easily absorbed the impact of the jump, quickly stabilizing its body.

Upon closer inspection, one could see that the killing machine had the designation “SW-01 Type·Cleaner” marked on its chest. Of course, Shen Qiu couldn’t understand the symbols.

However, that didn’t stop Shen Qiu from jumping down from the trash can and taking off running.

In the distance, Tang Kexin immediately spotted Shen Qiu fleeing. She was just about to run in his direction.

But then, Cheng Ning, that second-generation rich kid, suddenly found his courage and pulled Tang Kexin in another direction to escape.

“Kexin, run!”

In an instant, everyone reacted under the shadow of death, scattering and fleeing like startled birds.

“Ah~ Run!”

“Help! Someone help me!”

“Don’t kill me!”

The next second, the Cleaner raised its guns and emitted a cold, mechanical voice!

“Intruders! Eliminate!”

“Intruders! Eliminate!”

Boom!

The dark gun muzzles erupted with flames, and a barrage of bullets swept through the area.

Click, click!

Immediately, the fleeing personnel were hit, and screams filled the air as blood and flesh flew everywhere.

And then, an even more despairing scene unfolded.

Swaying and swaying~

One by one, more Cleaners rushed in, crazily shooting at the scattered crowd while quickly pursuing them.

Ah~

The fleeing crowd fell like chives cut down by a scythe, collapsing in waves!

In just a few breaths, over a hundred people had already been shot down.

The pursuing Cleaners, as they passed by the fallen and not yet dead, coldly lifted their mechanical feet and stomped directly on their heads.

Shen Qiu didn’t look back; he unleashed a terrifying speed, surpassing those fleeing in the same direction.

There’s a saying: when danger strikes, you don’t have to run fast. But as long as you outpace others, you’re temporarily safe.

“Help me!”

A fashionably dressed girl, panic-stricken, instinctively reached out to grab Shen Qiu as he ran past her.

Unfortunately, Shen Qiu deftly sidestepped her grasp.

At this moment, Shen Qiu’s nerves were taut to the extreme. His eyes rapidly scanned all the buildings ahead, searching for the best escape route.

At the same time, he listened intently to the sounds of gunfire behind him, trying to gauge how long he had before he would be targeted.

However, the situation was even worse than he had estimated.

In just a few seconds, he heard the same girl who had reached out for him let out a terrified scream.

Just then, a horizontal alley appeared in front of him. Without a second thought, Shen Qiu turned right into the alley.

At that moment, whistling bullets suddenly struck, hitting the corner and sparking fiercely.

The cement debris kicked up by the bullets almost grazed Shen Qiu’s neck, leaving a faint trail of blood.

The impending death filled Shen Qiu with fear and unease, and his adrenaline surged.

He quickly made a decision and dashed toward a steel ruin of a building that was only a third intact, about sixty meters ahead.

At this time, the Cleaner behind him also quickly closed in, its camera-like head swiftly rotating to lock onto Shen Qiu.

Shen Qiu glanced back and saw the Cleaner chasing him, the distance between them less than fifty meters and rapidly shrinking.

Thump, thump!

Shen Qiu’s heart raced, his bodily functions activated, and his speed surged as he gradually increased the distance.

The Cleaner raised its gun, locking onto Shen Qiu from a distance.

Click, click!
A torrential rain of bullets poured out!

In an instant, Shen Qiu gritted his teeth and jumped, leaping through an opening in the damaged building.

As he landed, he clasped his hands around his head, curling up like a ball, rolling on the ground to absorb the impact of the jump.

The next second, the dense gunfire crackled as bullets struck the opening.

Having narrowly escaped, Shen Qiu immediately got up from the ground and bent over to run forward.

Although hiding in the building provided some cover, it also made him a target.

The first floor of this abandoned steel building was cluttered with toppled desks and dusty electronic equipment, as well as scattered documents and books on the floor.

Under normal circumstances, Shen Qiu would have been curious enough to crouch down and explore.

But now, he didn’t even take a glance. He utilized his parkour skills, nimbly leaping over one obstacle after another as he sprinted toward the back door as quickly as possible.

Just as the Cleaner chased in, Shen Qiu narrowly escaped from the abandoned building.

The moment he burst out, Shen Qiu glanced around and saw a dense area of steel buildings, with numerous narrow alleys between them, perfect for hiding.

Without any hesitation, Shen Qiu immediately took off his shoes and threw one of them forcefully ahead. Then he chose a narrow alley on the left and dashed toward it.

He was met with a row of five large metal trash cans, each about one and a half meters tall, which served as excellent cover.

Shen Qiu quickly ran to the side of the last trash can, crouched down, and suppressed his wild panting, keeping the noise to a minimum.

The intense flight from death filled Shen Qiu with heightened fear, and his adrenaline surged.

The corners of his mouth curled up, and Shen Qiu forcibly suppressed his increasingly excited nerves. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small vial, quickly twisting it open and pouring out two pills containing sedative ingredients, which he swallowed in one go.

After taking the medication, Shen Qiu took deep breaths to calm his racing heart.

Normally, when faced with the threat of death, people feel immense fear, and their adrenaline spikes, fueling a stronger will to escape.

However, Shen Qiu was different from ordinary people. Under the stimulation of death and fear, his brain would gradually become excited, reducing his fear until he ultimately felt utterly manic, fearing nothing at all.
