Chapter 39: Chapter 41-42: The Backward Battle Axe and the Death Duo – Alex Mo Takes Over!
"Alex Mo dunked on Tim, and when he turned around, the Wake Forest big man responded with his best bank shot!"
"Hahaha, I just love watching young talents trade blows like this!"
"Whether Georgetown or Wake Forest wins, this semifinal matchup is destined to go down in NCAA history!"
Chicago, Soldier Field.
Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo shared a hearty laugh. As seasoned veterans, they were naturally delighted to witness a young inside player with immense potential showcase his skills on the biggest stage.
Of course, as Georgetown alumni, they had one hope:
Alex Mo must emerge as the ultimate victor in this epic battle!
"Hey, that No. 21 from Wake Forest has some real moves."
In the CCTV studio, veteran commentator Zhang Lili took note of Tim Duncan's performance: "It may look like luck to some, but I assure you, that shot off the glass was intentional."
"Exactly, Director Zhang," Sun Zhengping added, "From what we've seen so far, it seems like Alex Mo has finally met a worthy opponent!"
"Of course. At this stage of the NCAA Tournament, every team has elite talent. But trust me, Alex Mo has what it takes to overcome the challenge!"
With that, Zhang Lili provided an in-depth analysis of Duncan, emphasizing his strong fundamentals and ability to make clutch plays.
Meanwhile, the game intensified on the court.
Over six minutes into the first half, the game was neck-and-neck. Iverson, despite his aggressive drives, struggled with efficiency, missing several key shots. Fortunately, Alex Mo stepped up, grabbing offensive rebounds over Duncan and converting them into quick scores.
By this point, Mo had tallied 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks, looking well on his way to a monster performance.
Duncan, on the other hand, had recorded 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks, showing his signature consistency.
At the first official timeout, Georgetown led Wake Forest 22-18.
"Tim, don't let that guy get inside so easily!" Wake Forest coach Dave Odom barked.
"Force him to stay outside! When he's in the mid-range, don't give him an inch!"
Odom's plan was simple—keep Mo out of the paint. If they could trap him in the mid-range, Wake Forest had a chance to stifle Georgetown's offense.
"I got it, coach," Duncan replied, his calm demeanor unwavering.
But deep down, he knew this would be his toughest test yet.
Georgetown's next possession began with Iverson handing the ball to Mo at the free-throw line.
Wake Forest's defense locked in, shutting down passing lanes and forcing Mo into a one-on-one situation against Duncan.
"Wake Forest set a trap, tempting Mo to take Duncan head-on from mid-range!" Mourning analyzed from the commentary booth.
The Soldier Field crowd roared in anticipation.
Instead of passing or settling for a jump shot,Mo crossed the ball between his legs twice, then burst past Duncan with a quick change of direction.
"Boom!"
Mo powered into the paint, but Duncan recovered quickly, contesting the shot with his long arms.
Mutombo and Mourning fell silent.
Then, to everyone's astonishment, Mo leaned back in mid-air, extended his long arms, and threw down a reverse tomahawk slam!
"OH MY GOD!" Mourning exclaimed, jumping to his feet.
"Did he just pull off a reverse battle-axe dunk over Tim Duncan?!"
"Absolutely!" Mutombo shouted. "Alex Mo just threw it down right in Duncan's face!"
Wake Forest's bench fell into stunned silence. Duncan himself looked bewildered, as if he had just witnessed something otherworldly.
Even on the CCTV broadcast, Zhang Lili could hardly contain his excitement.
"Director Zhang, what do you think of this play?" Sun Zhengping asked.
"What do I think? Just praise him! Mo Ran—ah, I mean Alex Mo—has just put Wake Forest on notice!"
The game resumed, and Wake Forest tried to retaliate. Duncan received the ball in the low post, spinning away from Mo to score an easy two.
But Georgetown came right back.
Iverson orchestrated a pick-and-roll with Mo. As Duncan switched to contain AI, Mo rolled hard to the rim.
"Whoosh!"
Iverson lobbed the ball high, and Mo soared through the air, meeting the ball with both hands.
Wake Forest's Rusty LaRue made the mistake of jumping with Mo.
"BANG!"
A ferocious slam over LaRue brought the crowd to its feet.
"Death slam!" Mourning shouted. "That was a total annihilation!"
Mutombo added, "First, the death block, and now the death dunk. Alex Mo is on a rampage!"
LaRue lay sprawled on the court, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Who am I? Where am I? Why am I here?
Meanwhile, the fans in the stands erupted, chanting Alex Mo's name.
Wake Forest inbounded quickly, desperate to regain momentum. Duncan found LaRue streaking down the court for an easy layup.
But Mo wasn't done.
"Not today!"
Chasing down the fast break, Mo timed his jump perfectly and swatted the layup into the stands!
The Soldier Field erupted again.
"Another death block!" Mutombo exclaimed. "This is dominance at its finest!"
Wake Forest's hopes were fading fast.
Iverson pushed the ball up the floor, pointing to Mo.
Mo nodded.
"Here we go, AI-Mo pick-and-roll!" Mourning shouted.
Iverson drove hard, drawing in the defense before throwing the lob.
Mo took off from inside the free-throw line, caught the ball mid-air, and hammered it home with a two-handed slam.
As the first half ended, Georgetown led Wake Forest 46-34.
Mutombo summed it up best:
"Tonight, the Moai Group is open for business, and Wake Forest is paying the price!"
