Chapter 12: Chapter:12

The atmosphere around the Kumo delegation's building was tense. Shisui Uchiha and Hatake Kakashi stood on opposite ends of the perimeter, their ANBU masks concealing their expressions. Hidden within the shadows, their respective teams kept a constant vigil. Despite their roles as peace messengers, the Kumo shinobi were jonin-level operatives, each trained to exploit the smallest opening.

Joining the surveillance effort were two critical assets: Hyuga Ryoma and his younger sister, prodigies of the Hyuga clan. Their Byakugan gave Konoha a distinct advantage in maintaining the upper hand. Even if the Kumo shinobi attempted to use advanced ninjutsu like the Clone Technique or Transformation Jutsu to disguise themselves as something as inconspicuous as a mosquito, the Byakugan could detect the faint chakra trail.

"Ryoma," Shisui said quietly, his tone sharp but calm, "anything unusual?"

Ryoma's pale eyes shifted slightly, scanning every corner of the building and its surroundings. His vision penetrated walls, catching faint chakra movements. "Nothing yet," he replied, his voice steady. "But they're cautious. Any attempt to leave undetected will not go unnoticed."

"Good," Kakashi added, his own Sharingan flickering under the mask. "Stay sharp. If they try anything, we act immediately."

Inside the building, Hiroshi and Kazuma sat opposite each other, their voices low but deliberate. The tension in their conversation matched the mood outside.

"This is a delicate situation," Hiroshi murmured. "The terms they're offering… will be mainly extortion."

Kazuma frowned, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the table. "I know Raikage-sama said go up to 1.5 Billion ryo and some other Resources.

Their words, though quiet, were carefully noted by Hyuga Ryoma and relayed through subtle hand signals to the ANBU captains. Root operatives, stationed nearby under Shimura Danzo's orders, also took note. Unlike the ANBU loyal to the Hokage, the Root operatives observed with an entirely different motive—one rooted in Danzo's vision of Konoha's dominance.

As night turned to dawn, the ANBU team switched shifts, making way for the next group of operatives. The Kumo shinobi, still confined to their quarters, showed no outward signs of resistance. By 10:00 a.m., the Kumo delegation was escorted to the designated meeting hall. Shisui and Kakashi led the way, their movements precise and methodical. The air was thick with anticipation, as both sides knew the stakes.

Inside the hall, Shikaku Nara sat beside Konoha's elders, Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane. The calm yet calculating Shikaku opened the talks with his usual strategic brilliance, but the demands presented to Kumo were steep: two billion ryo in reparations, a supply of chakra metal, and agricultural resources like rice and wheat.

Hiroshi's face remained impassive as the terms were laid out, but the tension in his jaw betrayed his thoughts. Kazuma, seated beside him, leaned forward slightly. "With all due respect, Hokage-sama, these demands are excessive. Peace should not come at the price of crippling one side completely."

Hiruzen, seated at the head of the table, replied with a measured tone. "Kumo's actions in the past have strained our relations. These terms are necessary to ensure that peace is not only achieved but maintained."

The negotiations continued for hours, with Shikaku leading the discussion for Konoha. His sharp mind picked apart Kumo's counterarguments, presenting Konoha's demands as non-negotiable. By the end of the day, the talks reached an impasse. The terms remained unchanged, and Kumo's delegation, unwilling to agree, left the hall with subdued expressions.

As the Kumo shinobi returned to their quarters, Hiroshi and Kazuma exchanged hushed words. "They're leaving us no choice," Hiroshi muttered. "These talks will fail unless we find leverage."

Kazuma nodded. "But what leverage do we have here, in their territory?"

Hiroshi's lips curled into a faint smirk. "We don't need to be here to gather information."

From within his sleeve, Hiroshi produced a small clone—a near-invisible replica of himself shrunken to the size of a mosquito. Performing the Transformation Jutsu, he altered its form to resemble the tiny insect, its chakra signature faint enough to evade most detection methods. As the clone flew from his hand, it slipped out of the room unnoticed and buzzed toward the hall where the negotiations had taken place.

Meanwhile, Hyuga Ryoma, stationed near the perimeter of the Kumo quarters, activated his Byakugan, scanning the area with meticulous care. "Shisui," he called softly, "I detected a faint chakra signature near the negotiation hall."

Shisui's Sharingan flared as he moved toward Ryoma. "What is it?"

"I can't say for sure," Ryoma replied. "It's incredibly faint, almost like an insect, but it has chakra. Likely a Transformation Jutsu."

Kakashi, now at their side, added, "If it's their doing, it's clever. But not clever enough."

The three moved swiftly toward the hall, their senses sharp. Unknown to Hiroshi, Konoha's vigilance would not allow even the smallest deception to go unnoticed.

Back at their quarters, Hiroshi and Kazuma waited, unaware of how closely they were being watched. The clone continued its work, silently observing the hall and relaying information back to its creator. The Kumo shinobi believed they had gained the upper hand, but in the shadows, Konoha's finest prepared to expose their ploy.

As the night deepened, the tension between the two villages grew heavier. The fragile thread of peace hung by a thread, and both sides knew that the slightest misstep could unravel everything.
