naruto:Reborn as Iruka

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Echoes of Reincarnation

The sun had yet to rise, but a pale lavender glow had begun to bleed across the edges of the sky. The world was still. Still aching. Still quiet.

Iruka stepped out of the washroom, drying his face with a towel, shirt discarded on the back of a chair, his muscles tight from hours of combat and tension. The cuts on his arms were healing, the chakra burns fading. But inside, his thoughts churned like a storm.

He walked softly into the main room.

Naruto was gone.

The blanket on the couch was folded. A note sat on the kitchen counter, scrawled in crooked kanji:

"Sensei! Nee-chan said you were just cleaning up. You were taking time, so I am going home to freshen up too! I didn't want to be the stinky one at breakfast. Don't start without me!! - Naruto"

Iruka smiled faintly.

"Kurenai…" he murmured, looking toward the now-empty seat she'd occupied the night before. She must've slipped out while he was in the bath. Her quiet was a kindness he didn't deserve, but deeply appreciated.

He sat down on the windowsill, staring out at the horizon. His reflection in the glass was tired, older somehow.

"…System," he said aloud, eyes narrowing.

A faint golden glow flickered in his vision, the ethereal interface of the strange companion bound to his soul answering with mechanical calm.

[System Online. Good morning, Host.]

Iruka didn't waste time. "You said you had access to this world's knowledge. Beyond mine. Beyond what I know."

[Affirmative. The system draws from native world data, both historical and metaphysical. Ask.]

Iruka leaned back against the wall, gaze distant.

He turned, gazing at the faint light bleeding through the paper screen window. "Tell me about the reincarnation of Indra and Ashura."

[Very well. What do you wish to know first?]

Iruka folded his arms, voice low. "Wasn't Indra the prodigy? The one who created ninjutsu itself? Genius beyond comparison. If that's the case… then why wasn't Sasuke like him at first?"

[Another keen observation, Host.]

The system pulsed warmly, as if nodding.

[That is because Sasuke was not the reincarnation of Indra at first.]

Iruka's breath caught. "Not… at first?"

[Correct.][Before the Uchiha massacre, Indra's soul resided in someone else—an Uchiha with great potential, though their name has been lost to time. Sasuke, while gifted, was not the pinnacle of his generation. He showed promise, yes, but compared to his older brother Itachi—and others within the clan—he was unremarkable in the context of Indra's soul.]

Iruka's brow furrowed. "So then… how did the change happen?"

[On the night of the Uchiha massacre, the vessel of Indra died. His soul, untethered, sought a new anchor. The closest suitable match in age to Naruto—and one capable of holding Indra's Yin-heavy essence—was Sasuke.]

"Because he had just lost everything."

[Precisely. Hatred, grief, and solitude became the gateway. His soul cracked, and the remnant will of Indra seeped in—slowly at first. It built over time. In his grief, Sasuke became more than himself. He became a vessel.]

Iruka sat slowly, letting it sink in.

"Then this wasn't just fate. It was trauma. The loss broke him enough to let something ancient take root."

[Indra's will thrives on loss, anger, and pride. And Sasuke, though kind as a child, was reshaped by tragedy into the perfect vessel.]

"And Naruto? Was he always Ashura's reincarnation?"

[Yes. Born with powerful life-force, a stubborn will, and an instinct to protect. From the start, he was chosen. But unlike previous incarnations, he housed a variable—Kurama. The Nine-Tails' influence disrupted his early development, making chakra control difficult. But it also tempered his will, making it stronger in the long run.]

Iruka stood slowly, pacing. "So that's why Naruto's chakra was always wild. It wasn't just because he was untalented—it was a clash between divine energy and raw hatred inside him."

[Correct. Despite that, he became Ashura's most compatible vessel in centuries. And now… your actions, Host, have strengthened that bond.]

He blinked. "What do you mean?"

The system was silent for a beat. Then:

[The chakra pill you gave Naruto—it carries your signature. Your haki. Your intent. That alone is a tether. It feeds Ashura's reincarnation not just strength—but stability. The bond is now stronger than any before.]

Iruka's hand hovered at his hip.

"So… the balance has shifted?"

[Yes. In the original flow of history, Sasuke's bond with Indra was tighter. He was more in sync with his will than Naruto was with Ashura's. But now? The opposite is true. Naruto's spirit is overflowing with Ashura's conviction. Sasuke's bond will grow—but never to the same level.]

A pause.

[Future generations of Uchiha will inherit Indra's blood through Sasuke's genes. And they will be powerful. But Naruto's legacy will eclipse even that.]

Iruka turned sharply. "And what of the Hyuga?"

A flicker.

[Ah… the silent bloodline. One long restrained.]

"Also doesn't Hinata and Hinabi had a pure Byakugan."

[Yes. So do Neji. Their blood runs untainted—untouched by dilution. Neji, in particular, was a genius born into chains. The rotation technique he used against Kidomaru—the so-called 'Resolving Heaven'—was his own creation, derived from stolen glimpses of main-branch training. What you saw… was not just a defense.]

"What was it, then?"

[The beginning. A nascent form. The embryo of something far greater—a chakra dome, formed with such speed and rotation that it mimicked a barrier. In shape, in power, it resembles the Susano'o.]

Iruka stiffened. "Are you telling me Neji was on the path to creating something akin to Uchiha abilities?"

[In concept, yes. His chakra control was extraordinary—almost divine. Had his growth not been suppressed by the seal, and his training not limited, his evolution could have redefined the Hyuga style.]

"And Hinata?"

[Stronger still.]

"What?"

[Her timidity restrained her, but in terms of chakra control, she was second to none. Even Tsunade, the greatest medical-nin of her time, would have paled in comparison had Hinata received the proper training and confidence. Her latent strength is immense. Emotional suppression—and lack of proper mentorship—kept it buried.]

Iruka exhaled slowly. "So all this time… our most powerful were buried under social walls."

[Correct. Neji, shackled by a cursed seal. Hinata, restrained by expectations. Even Hinabi, though young, holds immense potential. The Hyuga's true inheritance lies not in their traditions—but in the purity of their eyes and the will to break free.]

Iruka thought of Naruto and spoke, his voice low but resolute:

"Ashura… may your will burn brighter than ever before."

[And so it does.]

A gentle pulse of warmth spread through the room.

[With this, Ashura's reincarnation has anchored more deeply. The bond is unbreakable now.]

"And Sasuke?"

[He, too, will grow. But the world itself won't let him die. His sync with Indra is set. Any variable—any shift—will protect him. Fate has decided they both must live.]

Iruka stood tall.

"Then it's not about choosing sides. It's about making sure both paths lead to something better."

The system hummed.

[Wise, Host. Perhaps wiser than even the Sage of Six Paths.]
