Chapter 9: Chapter :9
"Ugh..."
Uchiha Haruto was feeling troubled.
First, the pension that should have been his was mysteriously embezzled by someone. And now, based on Uchiha Fugaku's actions, it seemed like Fugaku was going to take advantage of the situation. Haruto feared that he would get tangled up in the politics between the clan leaders and the high-ranking officials of Konoha.
As a newly graduated Genin, the conflicts between the clan leaders and the intricate entanglements between the Uchiha and the Konoha leadership were too much for him to handle. He needed a powerful backer if he hoped to survive and thrive.
As he pondered this, Haruto noticed that his path was blocked by someone unfamiliar.
"Excuse me…?"
"The clan leader said that he had many things on his mind and accidentally gave you the wrong token. He wanted you to exchange it for this one," the man said, producing a new token of finer craftsmanship and handing it to Haruto.
"The clan leader also mentioned that, as the head of the Uchiha clan, he is committed to protecting every outstanding genius within the family."
The older Uchiha looked at Haruto with a meaningful expression.
As their eyes met, Haruto realized what was happening. Uchiha Fugaku was trying to recruit him.
This meant Haruto was about to become aligned with the clan leader's faction. As a Uchiha who had awakened his Sharingan at the age of ten, Haruto was more than qualified to be targeted for recruitment.
The timing couldn't have been more perfect. Just when he needed a powerful backer, here it was, falling into his lap.
The claim of giving the wrong token was just a cover. The real significance lay in this new token. By accepting it, Haruto would be acknowledging his alignment with the clan leader's faction.
Without hesitation, Haruto accepted the token with the three-tomoe Sharingan emblem and said, "I will remember the clan leader's kindness. As a member of the Uchiha clan, I pledge my support to the clan leader."
The elder Uchiha nodded with satisfaction at Haruto's words.
"With this token, you will be placed directly in the team under the police force's minister."
Then, the elder leaned in slightly, speaking in a low voice near Haruto's ear. "The elder who guards the clan treasury, Uchiha Retsu, is a loyal confidant of the former clan leader and a staunch supporter of the current leader. Show him this token, and he will assist you."
With that, he patted Haruto on the shoulder and walked away slowly.
"It seems that by taking this token, everyone will now see me as the clan leader's man," Haruto mused, studying the intricate design on the token in his hand.
"However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. From the current point of view, Uchiha Fugaku will hold his position as clan leader for the next twenty years or so. But… Fugaku, despite being the clan leader, is not exactly known for decisive leadership. Even when he eventually awakens the Mangekyō Sharingan, he won't dare to use it. His influence and strength are among the weaker of the Uchiha clan leaders. While he can serve as a backer now, in the future, I'll still need to rely on my own strength."
In the world of shinobi, everything boils down to strength.
Uchiha as a clan revered power above all else. If you reached the level of a Jonin, you commanded respect even from other Uchiha. But if you attained Kage-level strength, unless you were someone like Hatake Sakumo, who held unwavering loyalty to the village, you could gain authority anywhere. Even the Uchiha would revere someone at that level of strength.
Haruto understood Fugaku's motivations. Fugaku likely saw him as a promising young talent, someone who could become a Jonin under his command in a few years. However, if Haruto ever reached Kage-level strength, his status within the clan could equal, or even surpass, that of the clan leader. At that point, Haruto would be in a position to change the future of the Uchiha clan.
And if he could ever reach the power level of someone like Uchiha Madara, the clan leader's position, or even the Hokage's title, might not matter to him at all. With such strength, he could build his own influence and potentially unify the shinobi world.
But all of that was far off in the future. For now, Haruto was still just a Genin, and aligning with Uchiha Fugaku could offer him support and benefits. He would take full advantage of that for the time being.
"As long as Fugaku doesn't disappoint me, I'll keep my loyalty to him," Haruto thought to himself as he walked toward the Uchiha clan's treasury.
Before long, a large building came into view. Its simple structure was adorned with a massive Uchiha fan emblem. This was the Uchiha clan library, which housed not only a collection of the clan's ninjutsu but also rare treasures—chakra-infused metals, precious medicinal herbs, and valuable tools obtained through their alliance with the Ninja Cat Clan.
Such a crucial location was, of course, guarded by a Jonin-level elder.
Uchiha Retsu, the elder assigned to protect the treasury, reclined in a chair outside, seemingly resting. In reality, he was using his spiritual perception abilities to monitor any movement around the clan library, ensuring no intruders could enter unnoticed.
"Strange... Not much chakra, but impressive mental energy for someone so young," Retsu muttered as he opened his eyes and saw Haruto approaching.
"Elder Retsu, I am Uchiha Haruto, here under the clan leader's orders to receive a ninjutsu scroll," Haruto said, bowing slightly as he presented the token to the thin, elderly man.
Retsu took the token and inspected it closely, then looked Haruto up and down.
"Haruto? That name…"
Retsu quickly searched his memory.
The Uchiha clan numbered only a few hundred, and as an elder who was deeply invested in the affairs of the clan, Retsu prided himself on knowing the names and backgrounds of most clan members.
"I remember now. You're the son of Chiji. To have opened your Sharingan at such a young age, you must be even more talented than your father. I hope you live up to the Uchiha name and bring honor to the clan, as your father did."
Retsu patted Haruto on the shoulder.
"To die in battle is the final and greatest honor for an Uchiha."
He looked at Haruto with a solemn expression before continuing, "So, you've come to receive your reward for opening your eyes?"
Haruto nodded.
"How old are you?" Retsu asked.
Thinking this was just routine registration for receiving the ninjutsu, Haruto answered, "I'm ten years old."
"You awakened your Sharingan at the age of ten… It must have been due to your parents' deaths," Retsu murmured, casting a reflective gaze at the boy.
Opening the Sharingan at such a young age indicated a strong potential for further evolution. Retsu could also sense that Haruto's mental power was unusually strong—far stronger than what should be expected of someone his age, even for an Uchiha with the Sharingan. It was as if there were two souls in one body, fueling his mental energy.
