But in Haruto's eyes, Uchiha Ketasu was still locked in confrontation with Uchiha Fugaku, creating a tense standoff.

Sensing Haruto's confusion, Uchiha Retsu explained:

"For an Uchiha, the most important means of fighting are fire-style jutsu and the Sharingan. Generally, battles between Uchiha are determined by these two factors. In terms of Sharingan, both sides possess three-tomoe Sharingan, so there is no qualitative difference between them. As for fire-style techniques, while Uchiha Ketasu has experience on his side, Fugaku has already mastered both the nature and form transformations of fire-style jutsu. This alone makes him an elite among jonin. His actual strength is a level above Uchiha Ketasu's. Moreover, Ketasu is aging, and his chakra reserves and quality are no longer at their peak. As long as Fugaku sticks to the basics, he will undoubtedly win this fight. The current intensity of the battle is just Ketasu fighting desperately, knowing he is cornered and facing certain death."

Haruto nodded, trying to grasp the explanation.

His intuition told him that Fugaku's plan to use Uchiha Ketasu as a way to establish his authority might work in theory, but its effectiveness was uncertain.

Although Fugaku was strong among the jonin and his youth could bring a degree of stability to the clan, there was a larger challenge...

He aspired to lead the Uchiha clan—the foremost powerful family in the ninja world, known for its strength—and to take charge of a clan that the upper echelons of Konoha sought to control and suppress. Without possessing the Mangekyō Sharingan or strength comparable to the Five Kage, he would find it impossible to unite the clan's strength. After all, the Uchiha only respected true power.

They sought undeniable strength—strength that could utterly crush opponents.

Otherwise, even if he defeated Ketasu, the proud and unyielding Uchiha would never fully accept him.

Uchiha Ketasu eventually lost the battle, but his final counterattack inflicted some damage on Fugaku, which significantly diminished the intended effect of Fugaku's display of power.

In the end, Fugaku publicly reclaimed Ketasu's pair of three-tomoe Sharingan.

The conflict seemed to have concluded.

However, the aftermath of the incident was far from over.

Next came the matter of dividing the power and responsibilities that originally belonged to Uchiha Ketasu between Uchiha Fugaku and Uchiha Setsuna.

When Haruto returned home after helping with chores at Uchiha Retsu's house, he found the old servant who had been with Fugaku waiting outside his door.

"Excuse me..."

"Haruto, this is the pension from the village, amounting to 500,000 ryo, along with an additional subsidy of 300,000 ryo from the clan. Additionally, there is a personal gift of 100,000 ryo from the clan leader."

The old servant handed over three bulging envelopes to Haruto.

"The clan leader was busy, so he sent me in his stead and also wanted me to convey that he hopes you will develop your talents quickly and serve the clan."

"Haruto will never forget the kindness of the clan leader."

Haruto respectfully saw the old man out.

"Tsk, Uchiha Fugaku is really willing to spend generously to win me over."

Haruto muttered to himself as he counted the banknotes in his hand.

He understood that Fugaku's attention to him was due to his potential. Fugaku likely intended to use Haruto as an example to promote the image of a caring clan leader who supports the younger generation.

For now, the Uchiha clan remained strong, and with external threats to Konoha, the village enjoyed a degree of stability. While some villagers disliked the police force's strict methods, the Uchiha were not yet openly resented, and their position remained secure.

The primary internal conflict within the Uchiha clan was between the older clan elders who refused to relinquish their power and the newly appointed clan leader, Uchiha Fugaku.

If Fugaku wanted to truly become a powerful clan leader, he would need a core group of loyal followers to support him.

It had been many years since the last Uchiha awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan. Fugaku himself wouldn't awaken his until the Third Shinobi War, and even then, he kept it hidden until his death. The next Uchiha to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan would be Uchiha Shisui, who was born just last month.

During this time, Haruto, who had awakened his Sharingan at only ten years old, was seen as particularly promising. Given his youth and potential, Uchiha Fugaku undoubtedly hoped to cultivate him into a loyal supporter.

However, Haruto believed that if Fugaku truly wanted to become the kind of clan leader he envisioned, it would be a challenging path.

It wasn't just that Fugaku's strength fell short of previous clan leaders; his indecisive nature made him ill-suited for leadership.

He was skilled in planning but struggled to make bold decisions when it mattered most. People like him often appeared capable to outsiders and managed everyday matters well, but when faced with significant challenges, they lacked the resolve to act decisively, allowing situations to worsen over time.

Moreover, Konoha's upper echelons wouldn't allow anyone to consolidate the power of the Uchiha to the point of threatening their authority.

That said, Uchiha Fugaku had been kind to Haruto.

If he had the ability in the future, he resolved to find a way to repay that kindness.

Two days passed quickly.

For Haruto, those two days were filled with more training and familiarizing himself with the ninjutsu he had already mastered. When he had free time, he visited Uchiha Retsu, who always had valuable guidance to offer.

On the third day—three days after the graduation exams—the time had come for the new Genin to be assigned to their teams.

Because both the fourth and fifth grades graduated simultaneously, team assignments were conducted for all of them at once.

This meant that graduates from both the fourth and fifth grades could end up in the same team.

If Haruto's earlier guess was correct, the purpose of this arrangement was to group students based on their previous performance evaluations.

Those with potential and strong family backgrounds, whether they graduated from the fourth or fifth grade, would be placed under the guidance of a jonin and groomed as future jonin candidates.

For example, in the original Naruto class, according to Kakashi, there were only 27 graduates, but Konoha, as the military core of the Land of Fire, surely produced more than 20 Genin annually.

The reality was likely that these 27 individuals were selected for special training under the guidance of jonin because they showed greater promise.

Students who were considered slightly less promising would likely be mentored by special jonin, preparing them to become the future backbone of Konoha Village.
