Chapter 129: 129. Hostage Once Again
"Oh look, isn't this Senju Tobirama? How have you become so pathetic after all these years?"
Uchiha Gin raised an eyebrow and greeted the late arrival with no politeness, saying,
"How's your bowl-headed brother doing?"
"Who are you?"
Drawn by the aura of Uchiha Hikari, Tobirama glanced at the unfamiliar man speaking to him and suddenly remembered.
His gaze lingered on the man's peculiar curly hair, and a long-forgotten memory resurfaced.
This irritating curly-haired man—wasn't he the Uchiha his father killed with one punch?
"Impossible! How could you have survived my father's full-force punch?"
Seeing Uchiha Gin alive again, Tobirama's first thought was that he was caught in a genjutsu. He tried to dispel it with his chakra, but to no avail, causing him to frown.
"You little white-haired brat, could you stop wishing for my death?"
Uchiha Gin protested, annoyed that Tobirama thought he should be dead.
"Hmph! You barely managed to survive, but you shouldn't show your face in front of me."
Now certain that Uchiha Gin had somehow survived, Tobirama crossed his arms and gazed arrogantly at the people present, his attitude making everyone's fists itch.
"Ah! I can't stand it! Gin, can I punch this arrogant jerk?"
Uchiha Hikari couldn't help but speak, annoyed by Tobirama's words.
The white-haired man was just too irritating.
"Uh, I'd like to as well."
Uchiha Gin quietly added his agreement.
While the two Uchiha maintained their calm, Uzumaki Mito, who was caught in the middle, was growing anxious.
Tobirama had brought over a hundred Senju elites with him, a force capable of wiping out a mid-sized clan. How could the two Uchihas remain so composed?
"It's my fault that Gin-san is in this situation. If I hadn't recklessly met with him, they wouldn't have been exposed."
A look of resolve flashed in Mito's eyes as she grabbed Gin's still-extended hand and placed it on her neck, pressing herself into his chest.
Tears quickly welled up in her eyes, and she cried out in a trembling voice,
"Tobirama, help me!"
Then, turning her head and burying her face in Gin's chest, she whispered so only the two of them could hear,
"Quick, hold me hostage. Don't let the Senju catch you!"
???
Gin and Hikari were both dumbfounded.
Especially Gin, who felt a sense of déjà vu from the scene. Wasn't this the part where he was supposed to pull out a kunai, grin maliciously, and laugh "Kekekeke" like a proper villain?
"Damn Uchiha!"
Tobirama, realizing he was too late, assumed Mito had already been taken hostage.
Frustrated and hesitant to act recklessly, he could only glare.
"You really didn't have to."
Gin said helplessly to Mito, who was still clinging to him. Little did she know, she was saving Tobirama's life by doing this.
"I'm sorry, Gin-san. It was my fault the Senju came. I didn't know you were helping the remnants of the Hagoromo clan escape."
Pressing closer to Gin's chest and breathing in his strong scent, Mito swallowed nervously, her voice full of guilt.
"I thought you returned to Uzushiogakure? What are you doing here?"
Understanding her explanation, Gin remained puzzled. Wasn't she supposed to be spending time with Hashirama to build their relationship? Why was she here?
"Hmph! My father wants me to marry into the Senju clan—to marry that Senju Hashirama."
Recalling her father's plan, Mito pouted angrily and subtly pinched the soft flesh of Gin's waist as she asked with a strange tone,
"Do you think I should marry him?"
"Of course not! No woman should be forced into marriage."
Gin answered righteously, his expression stern.
"That's exactly what I think, Gin-san."
Hearing Gin's words, Mito's mood brightened. Finally, someone who understood her, and it made her heart feel warm.
"So I want to earn enough merit to become the next leader of the Uzumaki clan. That way, I can do what I want."
Clenching her fist, Mito whispered her ambitions to the man holding her.
Uh... that's quite bold, but I like it.
"Hey! Stop getting so close!" x2
Two voices echoed in unison, though the speakers were different, their message was the same.
Uchiha Hikari: ???
Senju Tobirama: ???
At some point, Kinkaku and Ginkaku had snuck onto the battlefield and now stood behind Gin.
"Mr. Gin! Is that Senju Tobirama over there?"
Kinkaku, the elder brother, glared with intense hatred at the distinctively white-haired Tobirama, asking through gritted teeth.
Ginkaku stood beside him, equally cold as he eyed Tobirama, clearly wanting to tear him apart.
"Yes, he's the one who led the attack on the Hagoromo clan and drove them to the brink of extinction."
Gin added fuel to the fire with a smirk, though his words were true. Tobirama had led the charge on the Hagoromo clan's territory and hunted them down.
"Do you want revenge?"
Gin's devilish whisper was filled with temptation.
"Grr..."
Kinkaku clenched his fists, his aura rising. It seemed he was about to explode. But just when Gin thought Kinkaku would charge at Tobirama, the man relaxed his fists, letting his bloodied fingers drip onto the ground.
"We're no match for him right now."
In the past, Kinkaku would have charged in without a second thought. But after losing a sparring match yesterday and hearing Gin's advice along the way, Kinkaku had started to think more clearly.
Without fully mastering his clan's sacred weapons, he knew he couldn't defeat Tobirama, who was several years older and more experienced. Charging in recklessly would only get him and his brother killed, leaving their clan's revenge incomplete.
"Need some help? I charge a bit, but—"
Gin sighed inwardly, feeling both amusement and sympathy. This cursed war had even made a musclehead like Kinkaku start thinking.
"Thank you, Mr. Gin, but you've already helped us a lot. If possible, we want to take revenge ourselves."
Kinkaku's expression firmed as he raised his head. The usually brash man now showed a rare moment of earnestness.
"Well then~"
Gin nodded, silently acknowledging their resolve.
Although their time together had been short, Gin had sensed that Kinkaku and Ginkaku weren't bad kids. After all, anyone who hated Tobirama couldn't be all bad.
Not that it had anything to do with the fact that they'd kill Tobirama in the future, of course.
Surveying the battlefield, Gin's mind quickly devised a plan.
"Hey, white-haired guy!"
Gin suddenly called out.
"Huh? Me?"
Tobirama, who had been deep in thought, was confused.
"Who else? You're the only one with white hair here."
"I prefer to call it luxuriously silver-gray!"
Tobirama retorted, fuming.
"Let's talk."
Gin extended a proposal.
"No way! I have nothing to discuss with the evil Uchiha."
Tobirama spat on the ground, refusing the offer.
"Kekeke, you wouldn't want anything to happen to your future sister-in-law, would you?"
Gin smirked, slipping into his classic villain role.
"Tch! You wicked Uchiha, speak your terms!"
Tobirama gritted his teeth and agreed to listen.
"See? Cooperation isn't so hard."
Gin chuckled. This white-haired brat reminded him of a certain cousin—always stubborn but secretly cooperative.
"I'm only here because of a mission. Let's make a deal. You let the women and children of the Hagoromo clan go, and I'll release your future sister-in-law. How about it? Ah!"
Gin laid out his terms, but just as he said "future sister-in-law," Mito pinched his waist again, making him yelp in pain.
"No way! The Hagoromo clan must be wiped out entirely from the Land of Fire!"
For Tobirama, the family of his father's killers could not be spared. His vengeful nature left no room for mercy.
"Oh come on~ They're practically down to nothing already. Can't you give them a break?"
Gin's eyes sparkled as a faint smile played on his lips.
"Not even a dog leaves here alive!"
Tobirama remained adamant—total destruction of the Hagoromo clan was the only option.
"How about this—this kid here is the future leader of the Hagoromo clan. He can decide their fate."
Gin nudged his head toward Kinkaku, unceremoniously throwing him into the negotiation.
"What do you mean?"
Tobirama hadn't expected such an important figure to be present, and he wasn't sure what game Gin was playing.
"I'll act as a middleman. Kinkaku, can you promise the Hagoromo clan will withdraw from the Land of Fire forever, never to return?"
Uchiha Gin revealed his true intentions and asked Kinkaku in a loud voice:
"Huh?"
Kinkaku was puzzled by the question. Hadn't they already decided to leave the Land of Fire and go to the Land of Lightning?
But when he saw Uchiha Gin wink at him secretly, even he, as dense as he was, understood what Gin was implying. He immediately straightened his face, raised a hand as if swearing an oath, and said loudly:
"I, Kinkaku, swear by the name of the Sage of Six Paths that the Hagoromo Clan will withdraw from the Land of Fire and never return. Should we break this vow, the Hagoromo Clan will be cursed by our ancestors, forever trapped in the depths of the underworld without the chance for reincarnation."
As expected from the son of the clan leader—he spoke with authority and precision.
"Well? Are you satisfied now?"
After listening to Kinkaku's solemn oath, Uchiha Gin turned to the silent Tobirama Senju and asked.
Tobirama found himself conflicted. He never imagined that the Hagoromo Clan, who had lived in the Land of Fire for over a thousand years, would choose to leave, catching him off guard.
After much thought, the young Tobirama finally made up his mind. He raised his head, his scrutinizing gaze sweeping over Kinkaku and Ginkaku before landing on Uchiha Gin, who was speaking so confidently.
"I can let the Hagoromo Clan go, but I still don't trust you Uchihas."
Tsk, how deep is your hate towards Uchiha?
