Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Rinnegan Obito
"Damn it, these monsters just keep coming!"
With a swift strike, A split a White Zetsu cleanly in two from head to toe. Yet, his expression grew darker by the moment.
From the ground, countless pale creatures continued to crawl out, their numbers seemingly endless—at least in the thousands.
The vitality of these White Zetsu clones was astonishing. Unless they were utterly destroyed, killing them was no easy task. To make matters worse, some emitted poisonous mists, causing significant casualties among the Kumogakure shinobi.
"Are these monsters also the work of Konoha? Of course! Who else but Tobirama Senju would dare to target us in Kumogakure? Damn it!"
As he slaughtered the creatures, A's mind raced.
But even as he contemplated, a White Zetsu crept up behind him. With an inhuman shriek, it lunged at the Raikage.
"Lightning Style: Thunder Ball!"
Without turning, A unleashed a surge of blue lightning, instantly obliterating the creature.
"Raikage-sama!"
A masked jonin, mid-jutsu, called out in a low voice.
"Tutai, you're just in time! Get in touch with Darui and have him bring reinforcements immediately!"
A's growl carried authority.
With the looming threat of war against Konoha, most of Kumogakure's forces had been recalled and organized into divisions. However, fearing Tobirama might infiltrate the village with Flying Thunder God like he had done with Iwagakure, A had dispersed the shinobi into four squads, each stationed at one corner of the village.
What A hadn't anticipated was such a massive enemy force appearing in the very center of Kumogakure, unnoticed.
His decision to divide the forces had left them woefully undermanned at the village's heart.
"Yes, sir!"
Tutai, flanked by a few shinobi, carved a path through the White Zetsu and disappeared into the distance, launching signal flares as he went.
"The rest of you, hold them here with me! We can't let these monsters spread!"
A glanced at the growing swarm of White Zetsu and then at the elite defenders at his side.
This was the center of Kumogakure—it could not fall. If the monsters dispersed, the casualties would be catastrophic.
"Fight!"
As A prepared to lead the charge, an unexpected betrayal sent shockwaves through the battlefield.
"Sterei, you—!"
With a sickening squelch, a kunai plunged into a shinobi's chest. The attacker? His lifelong comrade.
The dying man stared in disbelief, his wide eyes silently questioning why his friend had turned on him during such a dire moment.
"What the hell are you doing?!"
A roared, his body crackling with lightning as he shot toward the traitor and crushed his head in one swift motion.
A Kumogakure shinobi turning on his own during a crisis? Unthinkable. Yet, there was no room for mercy.
"Raikage-sama, something's wrong with this shinobi!"
Mabui, his sharp-eyed secretary, pointed out an unsettling detail.
The body of the so-called "Sterei" looked identical to any other shinobi. But the neck wound didn't bleed. Instead, its cross-section was eerily similar to that of the White Zetsu. Even more chillingly, the body squirmed, refusing to die.
"These monsters can mimic others?!" A's eyes widened in horror.
The transformation was so flawless it had evaded even his discerning eyes.
"Everyone, stay alert!"
Before his warning fully left his lips, chaos erupted behind him.
"Brother, no!"
"Captain, what are you doing?!"
"Impossible!"
One by one, White Zetsu impostors revealed themselves within the ranks, turning on their allies.
As the defenders fell, their bodies were replaced by impostors, who then struck from within the Raikage's formation.
The real White Zetsu clones on the frontlines seized the opportunity to press their assault.
"Damn it!"
A roared, activating his Lightning Release Chakra Mode. Blue electricity enveloped his body as he charged headfirst into the overwhelming enemy force.
On a distant vantage point, Black Zetsu observed the chaos below, his expression unreadable beneath the spiked aloe-like growths framing his face.
"Obito, isn't it a waste to use these White Zetsu here?" he asked the man beside him.
Obito stood in silence, his new appearance striking. He had shed his previous attire for a deep blue robe, with a massive war fan strapped to his back. His white mask, etched with magatama, exuded an air of menace.
Through the mask's twin eyeholes, the glow of his left Rinnegan and right Sharingan shone—a mesmerizing blend of purple and red.
"They're just cannon fodder. As long as they can stall Kumogakure for a while, they've served their purpose."
Obito's voice was cold, his tone indifferent.
These White Zetsu clones were a far cry from the ten thousand enhanced versions used during the Fourth Shinobi War. Created using the chakra of the Five-Tails, their numbers were limited, and their power barely matched that of a chunin.
"So, the next target is the Eight-Tails and Two-Tails?"
Black Zetsu's voice carried a note of caution.
"They're both perfect jinchūriki, fully synchronized with their tailed beasts. They're no ordinary opponents."
"With the power of the Rinnegan, victory is inevitable."
Obito's confidence was absolute.
Though his face was hidden, Black Zetsu could sense the arrogance swelling in him since acquiring the Rinnegan.
Moments later, a spiraling black vortex engulfed them both, and the two disappeared without a trace.
