Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Madara's Coffin Can't Stay Shut
Despite being merely a puppet, Deva Path Pain's chest was now bleeding profusely, a steady stream trickling down.
"Drip, drip, drip..."
Deva Path opened his mouth as though wanting to speak, but his destroyed body could only emit a hoarse rasp.
When Tobirama pulled his blade-like hand out of Deva Path's chest, the latter swayed, unsteady on his feet, before collapsing to the ground with a resounding thud. The chakra rods embedded in his body scattered across the ground with a metallic clatter.
"You... how did you... get here?"
The strange mutter, whether from Nagato or Pain, reached Tobirama's ears.
A moment later, Deva Path lay lifeless, silent forevermore. The wailing chakra dragon in the air dissolved into mist, vanishing under the torrent of Tobirama's water dragon technique. Even the Gedo Statue let out a final unwilling roar before disappearing into a plume of smoke.
Realizing something, Tobirama quickly grabbed a broken black rod from the ground and pressed it into his palm to sense the chakra's source. As expected, the rod—normally a conduit between Nagato and Pain—was completely inert. Tobirama couldn't sense even a trace of chakra.
"This... doesn't add up," Tobirama muttered, his brow furrowed.
Nagato was dead.
Even if he'd overexerted his life force using Shinra Tensei and Chibaku Tensei in quick succession, this outcome shouldn't have been possible. In the original timeline, Nagato still had enough strength to revive an entire village. Yet now, he was dead without a sound.
Earlier, while returning to Konoha with Hashirama, Tobirama had learned that Obito had attacked the village, preventing him from arriving here in time.
If anyone was behind this, it could only be Black Zetsu.
A myriad of thoughts raced through Tobirama's mind. Silently, he stowed away Yahiko's corpse and sped toward Orochimaru's location.
On a towering statue, Orochimaru kicked a stone off the edge in frustration.
"Damn it! This Hashirama is leagues above the version I resurrected before!"
In the distance, his last pawn, the Second Tsuchikage, Mū, let out a final defiant roar before being sealed away by Hashirama's Mokuton techniques.
At that moment, Orochimaru sensed approaching footsteps behind him.
"Orochimaru, your pawns are all gone. Surrender," Uchiha Itachi said, his Mangekyō Sharingan spinning as he advanced.
"Itachi-kun, don't be so hasty. The game isn't over yet," Orochimaru replied, turning slowly with his eyes shut. A sly grin crept across his face as he licked his lips.
Seeing Orochimaru's confidence, Itachi's heart sank. Without hesitation, he formed hand seals.
"Fire Style: Phoenix Sage Fire!"
Flames burst forth from Itachi's mouth as he simultaneously threw shuriken. The projectiles, coated in scorching flames, scattered like a blooming phoenix flower, heading straight for Orochimaru, who stood at the cliff's edge.
Orochimaru cracked open one eye for a brief moment, a trail of blood seeping from the corner.
"Crystal Release: Jade Amaterasu!"
A sharp whistling sound tore through the air as crystalline blades cloaked in black flames shot out, colliding with the incoming fire and shuriken. The unrelenting Amaterasu consumed everything it touched, while the remaining blades hurtled toward Itachi.
Itachi activated his Susanoo in an instant, the skeletal frame enveloping him. With a wave of its massive claw, the blades were caught and flung aside. The lingering Amaterasu flames fizzled out after losing their target.
"Your Amaterasu is quite handy, Itachi-kun," Orochimaru sneered, licking his lips once more.
Itachi glared, his disdain palpable. Orochimaru, however, still kept his eyes tightly shut.
But his smug expression quickly disappeared when two familiar voices echoed from behind Itachi.
"Hahaha! Tobirama, looks like I finished first!"
Hashirama, half his body already blackened from battle, laughed boisterously as he appeared beside Itachi.
"Yes, yes, brother, you're still the best," Tobirama replied dryly, rolling his eyes.
Satisfied, Hashirama turned his attention to Orochimaru, whose confidence now seemed to waver. Despite keeping his eyes shut, Orochimaru felt an icy chill run down his spine, as though a predator had locked onto him.
Before anyone could react, Tobirama struck. With a swift water blade, he decapitated Orochimaru. Blood sprayed into the air, but not a single drop landed on Tobirama.
"Hokage-sama!" Itachi exclaimed, rushing forward.
"This reckless youth was always quick to escape," Hashirama commented with a light chuckle, stepping closer.
"Indeed. He reacted swiftly," Tobirama said, holding Orochimaru's severed head.
From the head's tightly shut eyes emerged countless small white snakes, slithering away. However, a pulse of Tobirama's chakra obliterated them into a bloody mist.
In the forest, Orochimaru fled desperately, his lower body now serpentine.
"How absurd! He's faster than Minato Namikaze!" Orochimaru cursed under his breath.
Just moments ago, he had narrowly escaped death. If not for his heavily modified body, he wouldn't have survived Tobirama's strike.
Though he still had experimental subjects bearing his cursed seals scattered across the ninja world, losing his current vessel—complete with Mangekyō Sharingan—was unacceptable.
His massive tail slithered along the forest floor, leaving a deep trail. As he glanced skyward, Orochimaru's expression froze.
Tobirama was flying.
"By the Sage of Six Paths! Tobirama... you've grown wings?! That's... ridiculously cool!"
"Does this mean the Senju clan are actually hidden yokai? Is our true form revealed after reaching a certain level of mastery? Sorry, Madara, it seems I'm not human after all..."
Hashirama's peculiar train of thought echoed in Tobirama's ears, causing his face to darken.
"Stop spouting nonsense, brother. This is just a technique I learned. Now, see that snake below? Jump down and punch him."
Their banter carried down to Orochimaru, who momentarily faltered.
Without hesitation, Hashirama leaped from the sky, his fist descending like a meteor. The sheer force emanating from it made Orochimaru's scalp tingle.
Abandoning all thoughts of escape, Orochimaru quickly formed the fastest seals of his life.
"Impure World Reincarnation!"
A coffin erupted from the ground, blocking Hashirama's strike.
Boom!
Before the coffin lid could open, it shattered under Hashirama's punch.
