"It seems like using Kakuzu to eliminate me was their plan," Uchiha Fugaku thought mockingly.
Kakuzu knowing Fugaku's whereabouts was no coincidence—someone had tipped him off. The person behind this plot must have leaked Fugaku's location to the black market, leading Kakuzu to try and assassinate him. Whether the mastermind was the Third Hokage or Danzo Shimura didn't matter. Both had contributed to the suppression of the Uchiha clan, making them enemies in Fugaku's eyes.
Yamanaka Fū, severely injured from the backlash of his failed technique, said nothing and desperately tried to escape. He knew that if he were captured by Fugaku, he would surely die.
"Still trying to run?" Fugaku remarked coldly.
With swift movement, Fugaku appeared next to Fū and slashed at him with a kunai. Fū, already weakened, couldn't dodge, and the blade cut deep into his throat. Blood gushed from the wound, and Fū collapsed, his eyes filled with regret.
Avoiding the blood, Fugaku calmly cleaned his kunai and put it away. He then crouched down to remove Fū's mask and was surprised to recognize the face.
"Ah, it's you," Fugaku noted. Fū had been one of Danzo's bodyguards during the Five Kage Summit, indicating his strength as an elite jonin. But that strength was meaningless against Fugaku's overwhelming power.
"Time to test out this corpse-melting technique," Fugaku murmured.
Activating his Mangekyō Sharingan, a swirling black vortex appeared in front of him. He threw Fū's body into it, and the corpse was transported to a small, dark space filled with a strange black liquid. As Fū's body dissolved in the liquid, a cellular-like tissue entered Fugaku's brain, triggering a transformation. His head felt like it was on fire, and sweat poured from his body.
After a while, Fū's body was completely dissolved, leaving no trace. Fugaku, now calm, noticed that his perception had become significantly sharper. His ability to sense chakra was now on par with that of the Yamanaka clan's sensory ninjas.
"So, this is the effect of corpse-melting," Fugaku mused. He could now sense chakra fluctuations and murderous intent much more keenly. If he obtained the Yamanaka clan's secret techniques, he could likely use them as if he were one of their own.
With a small smirk, he said to himself, "If I get the chance, I'll acquire their secret techniques."
Normally, acquiring the secret techniques of another clan was nearly impossible without their unique physical traits. But with his Mangekyō Sharingan, Fugaku could copy jutsu just by observing them.
Using a fire jutsu, he incinerated Fū's belongings, ensuring there would be no trace left behind. Next, he turned to Kakuzu's remains. Knowing that Orochimaru and Kabuto could use corpses to perform the Edo Tensei technique, Fugaku made sure there was no body left to be revived. Using a powerful fire jutsu, he burned Kakuzu's remains to ash.
"That takes care of that," Fugaku said, satisfied.
With his new perception abilities, Fugaku looked toward the distant Land of Rain, his next destination. He donned a straw raincoat from his sealing scroll and prepared to move forward. His ultimate goal wasn't the perception abilities of the Yamanaka clan—those were merely a bonus. What he truly sought was White Zetsu, whose body was fused with Hashirama's cells.
Obtaining those cells would give him the power he desired.
