Chapter 27: Chakra attributes
Chapter 27 Chakra Attributes.
In the next month, Kiba incorporated ninjutsu training into his independent practice. However, he typically conducted this training deep within the dense forest, away from the eyes of even Hirohiko and Yukina.
During this period, Kiba confirmed his chakra attributes: earth and water. Unfortunately, he found himself unable to use wind, lightning, and fire techniques. This revelation left Kiba a bit downcast as he realized that iconic jutsu like Chidori and Rasengan were beyond his reach.
Despite this setback, Kiba remained undeterred. He knew that with diligent practice, he could cultivate the nature change of his chakra and potentially learn wind and lightning attributes in the future. Additionally, both earth and water attributes had their merits. The Second Hokage specialized in water techniques, and the Third Hokage mastered earth techniques. The practicality of earth ninjutsu was notably evident during the Fourth Great Ninja War.
Kiba's days were filled with relentless training. Every morning, Uzumaki Kushina pushed them through grueling exercises that would challenge even the most seasoned ninja. Despite the intensity, Kiba could feel himself growing stronger. His chakra control improved, and he was getting better at harnessing the full potential of his earth and water techniques.
Throughout the month, Kiba's combat skills improved significantly through daily sparring with Kushina. He no longer found himself constantly overpowered by her and could now endure a full two-hour sparring session. His proficiency in taijutsu and ninjutsu had increased, and his chakra reserves had grown, even without relying on the Life Gate mode. His developing super strength added a significant edge to his capabilities.
Kiba grew confident in his ability to handle elite Chunin-level opponents. However, he noticed that his current super strength was still immature. It required time to gather chakra, which could be a critical disadvantage in actual combat. Kiba aimed to refine his ability to unleash his super strength instantaneously, similar to Tsunade. The key to this was increasing his chakra reserves.
One day, after completing 500 punches against a tree, Kiba left an inconspicuous fist mark and thought, I really want to open the fourth gate soon!
Kiba felt that his physical fitness was nearing the threshold for opening the fourth gate. Kushina's intense training regimen had proven highly effective, accelerating his progress far beyond his initial expectations. However, the anticipation of this milestone had lingered for the past two weeks without any breakthrough, causing some anxiety.
The discovery of his chakra attributes provided Kiba with a new goal for his ninjutsu journey. He frequented the Konoha Library, diligently studying, and his anxiety began to fade.
During his visits to the library, Kiba learned that most ninjutsu ranked B-level and below were common techniques available to anyone in the village willing to teach them. Despite his incredible talent for learning ninjutsu, Kiba had only mastered three in the past month: two earth techniques and one water technique.
Kiba realized that his talent lay in remembering and learning jutsu sequences after seeing them once. However, reading about them in scrolls required dedicated practice to achieve mastery. He had memorized over ten ninjutsu but had only managed to learn three so far.
This shift in focus from opening the fourth gate to mastering ninjutsu helped Kiba avoid excessive obsession and potential mistakes. The Eight Gates were a dangerous forbidden technique, and forcing them open could have dire consequences.
Just as Kiba finished his 500 punches and was about to begin his side kicks, Uzumaki Kushina's voice rang out, "Everyone stop, gather!"
Kiba was okay but turned around in confusion. However, Hirohiko nearly injured himself with a misaligned shuriken rebound that grazed his cheek. The shuriken flew dangerously close to Yukina, who was practicing her Gentle Fist technique. Fortunately, her Byakugan allowed her to dodge it just in time.
"Sensei Kushina, that was scary! It could've been fatal!" Kiba exclaimed, breaking into a cold sweat.
Uzumaki Kushina noticed the situation and hurriedly apologized, "Sorry, I have something to inform you!"
Her face lit up with excitement as she continued, "In ten days, the Chunin Exams will be held!"
Chunin Exams?
Kiba was taken aback, and so were Uchiha Hirohiko and Hyuga Yukina.
"I've signed you all up today!" Kushina announced, her enthusiasm unwavering.
"Hey—the Chunin Exams..." Kiba mumbled, lacking interest. His focus had been solely on training, and the thought of the exams hadn't crossed his mind. He didn't see any special benefits in becoming a Chunin.
"Boom!"
Before Kiba could finish speaking, Kushina punched him on the top of his head, leaving a prominent bump.
"Be serious!" Uzumaki Kushina demanded, her red hair slightly raised.
Immediately, Uchiha Hirohiko and Hyuga Yukina nodded fervently, their expressions showing their determination.
"But we've only been Genin for a short time, and if we sign up for the Chunin Exams, the Third Hokage might not agree..." Kiba began.
"It's already done, and I have confidence in you," Uzumaki Kushina said, her eyes shining with pride.
She was incredibly proud of her students. With their current strength, they could endure two-hour sparring sessions. The Chunin Exams should be a breeze for them. They were the best disciples she had ever seen!
Seeing Uzumaki Kushina's confidence, Kiba touched his nose and decided not to argue.
Well, we've completed no missions since becoming Genin. It's surprising the Third Hokage allowed us to take the Chunin Exams. A ninja's worth is measured not just by strength but also by mission performance!
However, Kiba kept these thoughts to himself, not wanting to dampen Kushina's spirits.
"Cough! Then, Hirohiko and Yukina, we need to train even harder!" Kiba said, pretending to be enthusiastic.
Hirohiko and Yukina nodded repeatedly, matching his energy.
The three of them returned to their self-training, and Uzumaki Kushina watched them with a smile on her face.
Tomorrow, I'll train them even more strictly! she thought, feeling determined.
