Author's Note:

Hello Guys! I had initially planned to release this chapter yesterday but ended up scrapping the entire thing because it didn't meet my standards. I decided to go in a new direction, and with only a day to work on it, this chapter turned out a bit shorter than usual but with lot of lore and back history. I'd love to know what you think of this new twist and how it compares! 😊

Last time on NTLHOS:

Hiruzen shifted in his seat, a deep weariness etched across his features. His voice held a grim, almost burdensome tone as he spoke. "Naruto's silence is unsettling, yes," he admitted, choosing his words carefully. "But there's a more immediate threat on our doorstep." He paused, letting the weight of his words sink in. "The Uchiha. They're moving again—more resolute than ever. Right now, they're actively planning a coup."

Silence fell heavy over the chamber, each elder feeling the gravity of Hiruzen's words. Danzo's fingers tapped a slow rhythm on the table, his eye glinting with unspoken schemes. Sukino leaned forward, her gaze alight with intrigue and malice. The collapse of the Uzumaki had been a victory, but if the Uchiha fell too… it would be a masterstroke, a consolidation of Konoha's power unlike anything they had ever achieved.

Now:

As Naruto emerged from the depths of the ancient forest, a sudden surge of chakra enveloped him. Before he could react, the world around him twisted and blurred. In an instant, the dense canopy gave way to open skies and the distant aroma of simmering broths. Blinking to clear his vision, he found himself standing at the edge of the Land of Noodles.

Memories flooded back—the last time he'd been here, a tense showdown with Ao that had nearly cost him everything. The familiar sights stirred something deep within him. Without wasting a moment, he secured a modest room at a secluded inn and penned a coded message to Kammado.

Six days passed in quiet anticipation. On the seventh day, amidst the bustling market filled with merchants and villagers, Naruto spotted a figure cloaked in emerald hues. It was Pakura, the mistress of explosions. Her eyes met his, a flicker of surprise turning into a warm smile.

"Naruto-Sama, it has been long" she greeted, bowing slightly.

He raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "'Sama'? It's been a while, Pakura, but not that long."

A soft blush crept up her cheeks. "Force of habit. Lord Kammado would have my head if he heard I disrespected the prince."

Naruto sighed a touch of exasperation in his tone.

She nodded, her gaze steady. "As you wish. So, what's our next move?"

"I'd prefer not to linger here and attract unnecessary attention. Let's head to the Wave Country. There are people I need to meet—Jinin and my spymaster."

Pakura's eyes flickered. "Understood. The Mist is no place for us right now."

They set off under the cloak of night, blending seamlessly into the night.

Upon reaching the shores of the Wave Country, Naruto was taken aback. The tales he'd read painted it as a thriving hub where ships from distant lands docked, and markets overflowed with exotic goods. Instead, he was met with desolation. The docks were eerily quiet, the ships reduced to skeletal remains, and the air thick with despair.

"This isn't right," he murmured, eyes scanning the dilapidated buildings and the hollow-eyed villagers.

Pakura's expression hardened. "Gato Shipping has taken over. They've strangled the life out of this place."

Naruto turned to her, a frown creasing his brow. "Gato Shipping?"

She nodded grimly. "Gato's business, backed by the Daimyo of the Land of Water and Lord Jeramy Aethil of the Fire Court. They've cut deals to exploit the Wave Country, and in return, the Fire Court turns a blind eye."

"So they've sold out an entire nation for profit."

They walked through the broken streets, witnessing firsthand the rampant poverty. Children with sunken eyes begged for scraps, while the elderly huddled together in makeshift shelters. Once Naruto would have looked at them with apathy, now he had compassion but it didn't show in his face. The once-paved roads were now little more than rubble, and the grand marketplaces were empty shells.

"This was once a great civilization," Pakura whispered. "A beacon of prosperity and culture of this part of elemental nation."

Naruto's gaze hardened. "This was an outpost Uzu".

------------xx---------------------------------xxx---------------------------xx------------------------------

Naruto and Pakura moved through the desolate outskirts of Wave, where the remnants of what had once been a bustling village now lay silent and abandoned. The stone buildings, once proud with sturdy walls and carved facades, now stood hollow and crumbling. Broken houses sagged under their weight, their foundations eaten away by time and destruction. The harbour, once a hub of vibrant trade and activity, was reduced to scattered planks and splintered wood jutting from the water like the bones of some ancient, forgotten creature. Thick vines snaked up the stone walls, weaving into the ruins as though reclaiming the land piece by piece. Broken cobblestones stretched out underfoot, silent reminders of the life that once thrived here.

They moved carefully, their footsteps echoing against the skeletal remains of the marketplace, where vendors once bartered goods and villagers shared stories. Now, the only sounds were the wind threading through the shattered windows and the distant call of seagulls over empty waters. Near the far edge of the ruins, hidden beneath a cluster of half-buried stones and wild undergrowth, lay the entrance to an underground network protected and concealed by seals. With a final glance over the deserted landscape, they descended. As they moved deeper, the oppressive darkness gave way to torchlight flickering against the rough stone walls. Below, the sprawling tunnels were alive with activity, a hidden world of Uzu operatives moving with quiet determination.

"How is this place?" Naruto asked.

Pakura smiled softly. "After Lord Kammado and others escaped Konoha, we repaired and refurbished these tunnels. They've become our training grounds and storage for supplies."

They arrived at a set of ornate doors. Pakura pushed them open to reveal a room fit for royalty. Rich tapestries adorned the walls, and luxurious furnishings filled the space. An attached bath and a private office completed the suite.

Naruto stared in disbelief. "What is all this?"

"Your quarters," she replied matter-of-factly. "Ivagin insisted."

He shook his head. "This is too much. We're supposed to be in hiding, not living in opulence."

"Tell that to him," she chuckled.

As if on cue, Ivagin entered—a tall man with sharp features and a confident stride. "My prince," he greeted with a respectful bow.

Naruto sighed. "Ivagin, nice to meet you. And what's with this room? I don't need such extravagance."

Ivagin met his gaze evenly. "My father instructed me to ensure the prince's comfort is not compromised by humility."

Naruto rubbed his temples. "Your father always did have a flair for the dramatic."

Ivagin allowed a small smile. "It's our way of honouring you."

"Fine," Naruto relented. "But we have more pressing matters. Who's on Gato's payroll?"

Ivagin's demeanor shifted to a grave seriousness. "Ayoi Rokusho—a mercenary of moderate skill, but he wields the Raijin no Ken, the sword of thunder…"

Naruto cut him off with a nod. "I've had a previous encounter with him. Go on."

Ivagin continued, "And then there's Fūka, the Last Kiss—a particularly dangerous kunoichi rumored to have the ability to absorb chakra."

He handed over their Bingo Book entries. . Naruto glanced them over, taking in the details with a critical eye. "Second-rate shinobi at best, but still a potential threat."

Pakura crossed her arms. "What's the plan?"

Naruto's eyes flickered with determination. "We're taking back the Wave Country—at least economically. This will be our base. We remove Gato, and I'll make it look like I killed him for the money and vanished."

Ivagin's eyes widened. "That's.... What about the Lands of Fire and Water? They'll retaliate or increase your priority."

Naruto's his voice hard. "Water Country has enough troubles of its own, and as for Fire—they can increase my bounty all they want, but there's only so much they can add before it becomes ridiculous, which it is already. Missing shinobi don't typically target businessmen or nobles; it would put them in the direct crosshairs of every major village and will make them priority. After all, no one wants to conduct business where there's a constant threat of death lurking over every transaction."

He paused, a wry smile forming. "But I'm a unique case. My bounty's already ludicrous, but it's still manageable—Jiraiya or even the Third Hokage himself would have to get involved if they wanted to take me down personally. I'll make it look like a heist, a rogue shinobi robbing Gato to provide for his people. Let them dismiss it as a one-time crime."

Ivagin nodded as Naruto continued. "We'll take over Gato's assets subtly, let someone from Wave appear as the front. And it will send a message to the businessmen in Konoha who've abandoned our alliance: I don't play by their rules anymore, and if they think my people will be trampled without consequence, they're wrong. I won't hesitate to protect our own—by any means necessary."

Pakura raised an eyebrow. "You're counting on their apathy?"

"Partly," Naruto admitted, "but more so on their greed. We'll make it look like a heist—a rogue shinobi, me, robbing Gato to provide for my people. They'll dismiss it as a one-time crime."

Ivagin nodded slowly. "And in the meantime, we take over his assets and subtly install our own people."

"Exactly," Naruto confirmed. "We send a message to those who abandoned our alliance in the Leaf. I'm not bound by their laws, and I won't hesitate to protect our own. If I need funds, I'll target them as well."

He dismissed Ivagin, who bowed and left to make the necessary arrangements.

Pakura glanced at him. "You seem confident."

He offered a small smile. "Confidence is key, something I've only recently found. Not out of arrogance or pride in my skill, but from clarity in life. Besides," he added, "Gato's arrogance will be his downfall."

------------xx---------------------------------xxx---------------------------xx------------------------------

They spent the next few hours strategizing, Naruto sending out shadow clones to scout Gato's base. As he received their memories, he couldn't help but marvel at the man's hubris.

"Unbelievable," he muttered.

"What's that?" Pakura asked.

As Naruto absorbed the memories from his clone, he found himself both amused and incredulous at Gato's audacity. Here was one of the wealthiest men in the elemental nations, surrounded by riches yet guarded by nothing more than Ayoyi—a second-rate shinobi wielding the legendary Raijin no Ken as if it were a mere trinket—and this Fuka, a kunoichi with a dark reputation but questionable loyalty. It was as though Gato were inviting disaster, daring anyone with the skill to end his life.

Naruto couldn't fathom how a man like Gato had managed to build his empire, dealing with devils and shadowy figures alike, yet neglecting the very protection that should have secured his life. It was a wonder he had lived as long as he had, walking a line between arrogance and sheer luck that was bound to run out.

She smirked. "Arrogance makes people blind."

Naruto nodded thoughtfully. "It's like he doesn't think anyone would dare cross him."

"All the better for us."

------------xx---------------------------------xxx---------------------------xx------------------------------

Night fell, casting a cloak of darkness over the Wave as Naruto and his team moved like shadows, slipping seamlessly into Gato's compound. The guards were minimal, their lack of vigilance almost laughable; there were no seals, no sensors—only a few hired thugs who were swiftly and silently subdued. For Naruto, this was practically a D-rank mission in terms of effort, but the reward was beyond anything a mere mission could offer. An entire business empire, handed to him on a silver platter, was a prize worth an S-rank, if not SS in priority.

The abandoned mansion's opulent main hall stood still as Naruto entered with a silent, lethal precision, incapacitating guards and samurai with swift, calculated strikes. A slit here, an electric pulse there—no sound, no second chances. He left a silent trail behind him, each fallen guard a testament to his precision.

As he stepped into the main hall, Gato sat lounging smugly, unaware that the predator had entered his den. By his side, Ayoi held a guarded stance, while Fūka reclined lazily on a chaise, her eyes barely lifting from her nails. She was beautiful, her presence sultry and confident, yet her expression flickered as she glanced at Naruto. She straightened, sensing the shift in power the moment he entered.

Gato sneered, his smugness momentarily shaken but quickly masked. "Well, well, looks like some rats found their way in."

Naruto's eyes hardened, a storm brewing behind them. "Not many call me 'rat' and live to tell about it," he replied, voice edged with steel.

Ayoi took a step back, his eyes widening as he recognized Naruto from the bingo books. The Arashi no Kōtei—the Emperor of Storms. His heart pounded, and his hand hesitated over the Raijin no Ken, the legendary sword he had barely mastered.

Fūka's smirk faltered, a bead of sweat forming at her temple as she caught Ayoi's panic. Her sultry voice wavered. "Careful, Gato. This one… is different." Her bravado faded, and for the first time, fear bled through her composure.

Ayoi raised the Raijin, attempting to ignite the blade with a flash of chakra. But before he could move, Naruto's form blurred in a burst of red plasma-infused lightning, appearing behind Ayoi with barely a whisper. In one fluid motion, he severed Ayoi's arm at the shoulder, wrenching the Raijin from his grip with cold precision.

"You are not even worthy of touching that sword, let alone wielding it," Naruto muttered, holding the blade before letting it fall to the floor.

Fūka began to gather chakra, her fingers moving in the subtle signs of a fire technique. But before she could release it, a sudden wave of intense chakra filled the room, pressing down with an oppressive weight that shattered the floor tiles and cracked the walls. Even Gato cowered, his bluster gone as he trembled under the force. Fūka's resolve broke, her eyes wide with terror as she met Naruto's gaze.

"There's no point," Naruto said, his voice low and dangerous. "I know where you store your chakra—where your life essence is hidden. Your concealment seals and tricks mean nothing to me."

Her face turned ashen, and her confidence shattered. Pale hands of fear griped her soul as the otherworldly killing intent hit her.

Naruto's gaze flicked upward. "You might as well join the others," he said, his tone mocking. "Did you really think you could hide from an Uzumaki using such a shoddy concealment technique?"

Two figures emerged from the shadows on the balcony above. Both were poised, though they were visibly shaken by the overwhelming chakra filling the hall.

The first, a hulking man with thick, corded muscles and a harsh, unyielding expression, held himself with forced strength, his posture defiant under the crushing weight of Naruto's chakra. His dark, messy hair and strong jawline framed a face that bore the hardened marks of countless battles. His attire was practical yet decorated, green with bold yellow and blue patterns—the typical qípáo style of mercenaries in the Bingo Book.

Beside him was a strikingly beautiful woman, her long, dark brown hair straight and shining, framing a face that was painted with carefully applied makeup—a smoky eye and crimson lips that added to her commanding presence. She held herself with a confident air, though her hand lifted slightly in an unspoken plea for peace. Her magenta outfit, fitting closely to her figure, radiated a bold confidence, but her eyes betrayed an unease, as if realizing the monster she now faced.

Naruto's gaze flickered between the two, his voice a low, mocking drawl. "You must be Fūdo," he said, eyeing the towering man with a grim smile. "And Fuen… I recognize you both from the Bingo Book."

Fūdo's eyes hardened, trying to stand tall, but Naruto's smirk only widened. "Are you sure this is worth it?" he wispered, letting his chakra pulse threateningly through the room.

Fūen glanced nervously at Fūdo, her confident expression faltering. She knew her partners were formidable, but against Naruto Uzumaki—the Arashi no Kōtei—even their combined might not be...

Naruto's aura intensified as the red, storm-infused chakra began to swirl around him, a crackling plasma coating his body much like the Raikage's lightning cloak, only wilder, more volatile. The energy thrummed with an almost palpable fury, sending shockwaves through the air. He looked at them, his voice calm but loaded with menace.

"You don't want to do this. I could end this in seconds, as easily as I did with Ayoi."

Fūdo steadied himself, gathering his chakra with forced bravado. "We're not him. Individually, perhaps, we're outmatched… but together, we can—"

He didn't finish. In an instant, Naruto vanished, leaving only a residual afterimage in his place, a faint red glow of plasma trailing in the air. Fūdo and Fūka blinked, momentarily disoriented by the speed. When they turned, Ayoi's body was gone—disintegrated, obliterated without a trace, save for his severed head, which now rolled to a stop near Naruto's feet.

Naruto's hand hovered where Ayoi's chest had been just moments before, a faint, red plasma aura dissipating from his fingertips.

All three remaining mercenaries paled, Fūka visibly shaking as her eyes darted to the others in panic. Fuen, their strategist, took a step forward, her raised hand trembling slightly as she forced a smile. "Look, this… this isn't worth it," she said, her voice struggling for calm. "You can have Gato. We're not paid enough to die for him."

Naruto's eyes flicked to Gato, who was now frozen in terror, the smug confidence he'd worn like a shield now shattered. Ignoring the mercenaries' pleas, Naruto stepped forward, his gaze locked on Gato's trembling form.

"Gato," Naruto's voice was cold, unyielding. "All the suffering you inflicted on these people...I pity whatever made you this way, but that doesn't change your fate. The people of Wave will decide your punishment." He motioned with his hand, and Pakura, Ivagin, and several others entered through the shattered window, ready for orders.

Naruto glanced at them, his gaze sharp. "Hang him upside down in the streets. Make sure everyone knows it was me who brought him down."

Then, turning to the remaining mercenaries and samurai who were frozen in fear, he added with deadly calm, "Spread the word. If any of you are still here by sunrise, I will hunt each of you down personally."

That was all they needed to hear—panic took over, and the mercenaries scrambled in all directions, vanishing into the night.

As the last of them disappeared, Naruto's tone dropped. "Once the word has spread," he said to his team, "eliminate every last one of those mercenaries and samurai. Leave no trace. Now loot this palace and seal the belonging."

With a dismissive wave, he turned his back on Fūdo, Fūka, and Fuen, all three gulped simultaneously. They were outmatched, and outclassed, and for once, greed didn't outweigh survival.

Naruto's gaze sharpened as he watched the three before him, their eyes wide with a mix of fear and confusion.

"Do you know why I haven't killed you yet?" he asked, his voice low, laced with a calm threat.

They shook their heads, fear rippling through their tense forms.

Naruto took a deliberate step forward, stopping just before Fūka. He leaned in close, his face mere inches from hers, his fingers reaching up to catch a lock of her hair. Fūka's breath hitched as Naruto's grip tightened slightly, his gaze piercing.

"Red hair, and that chakra…" His eyes narrowed with recognition. "You're an Uzumaki, aren't you? Fūka Uzumaki—the brave woman who once offered herself for experiments to strengthen Uzu. Am I right?"

Fūka's expression flickered with a surprise and pain as she held Naruto's gaze, her body taut.

------------xx---------------------------------xxx---------------------------xx------------------------------

Fūka felt an unfamiliar weight press upon her, pulling her deeper into memories she had spent years trying to bury. His gaze, so reminiscent of the Uzumaki strength she had once fought alongside, burned into her like a reminder of everything she had lost, abandoned, and distorted in her journey to survive.

"I'm a relic of a fallen clan," she thought, a flicker of shame crossing her eyes.

Her mind drifted back to the days before Uzu's fall. She had been one of the esteemed ANBU of the Uzu from a brach line of Uzumaki, skilled enough to draw the attention of Lord Arashi himself, His Grace's son. Alongside her team, she stormed through enemy ranks with an unwavering will to protect her people. Until the day Hanzo, the Salamander, appeared—a force that decimated everything in his path. Her power was nothing against him; her technique, her resilience—all had been meaningless before the might of that monstrous man.

Fūka had somehow survived the invasion, though she barely remembered how. When she regained consciousness, she found herself on this very island, barely clinging to life. Her superiors had, it seemed, pulled her out, leaving her with orders: protect a group of civilians and regroup once she was well enough to fight.

But by the time Fūka awoke, the world around her was painted in ruin. The civilians she had been tasked to protect lay scattered across the ground, their bodies lifeless, their hope extinguished. Beside her, the shinobi who had risked everything to pull her from the battlefield had also fallen, his final breaths long gone. In his cold, stiffened hand, he still clutched a letter of orders. As Fūka took the letter from him and read, a sinking realization set in—the orders detailed that this shinobi was to follow her command, ensuring the civilians' safe passage once she regained consciousness.

It dawned on her with a hollow finality: the enemy must have presumed her dead from the start. The rescue had been a last, desperate attempt to grant her one final mission, one last purpose before they too were extinguished. And now, even that purpose lay shattered around her. In the madness of loss she decided to survive.

But survival had a cost.

She had fled into the darkest corners of the shinobi world, making herself a weapon that fed off the life of others. A forbidden technique—one meant to use the very vitality of others for her own survival. Her beauty remained ageless, her strength bolstered by each soul she consumed. Her Execution by Kiss became infamous, a final act for those she deemed useful. She had once heard that Uzumaki life force could be given to heal, restore, to protect. She had twisted it to take, drain, and devastate.

Yet despite her choices, her prowess had grown formidable, her body and techniques evolving into an intricate system of deceit and survival. She had separated her essence from her physical self, embedding it into her hair so she could escape even the worst of injuries. Five bodies she could shift between, each one housing a different skill set, each stored in a scroll. She had amassed an arsenal that included techniques from all five basic elements—a trait so rare it was nearly mythical. Through her kiss, she could extract chakra from her victims, blending their elemental affinities with her own. She had become an instrument of fear, of dread—nothing like the kunoichi she had once aspired to be.

But survival had driven her and moulded her into this fractured existence. Every day she breathed was due to those sacrifices she had made.

And now, before her, was Naruto Uzumaki—Kushina- sama's son, the heir to the same bloodline she had betrayed. She could feel the power coursing from him, a strength so tangible it seemed to bend the air around him, a power beyond what she had stolen for herself. A power that remained of his grace. Her breath hitched as her shame surfaced, raw and painful, a forgotten wound ripped open.

He must know, she realized with a surge of dread. He must see right through the monster I've become.

A small, bitter smile touched her lips as she thought, What would His Grace think if he saw me now? Would he even recognize the monster I've become?

To her shock, the prince extended his hand, his eyes steady, carrying both challenge and understanding. "Prove to me you're worthy of the Uzumaki name," he said, his voice unwavering. "I'm offering you a second chance to redeem yourself. Will you take it?"

The other two looked at her in shock, since they didn't know her past.

------------xx---------------------------------xxx---------------------------xx------------------------------

The next day, the people of the Wave Country awoke to a sight they would never forget: the smoldering remnants of Gato's empire, a statement of rebellion against his reign of terror. In the center of the market square, Gato's body hung upside down, his face pale, mouth gagged—his downfall made a spectacle for all to witness. This was no mere assassination; it was a declaration.

Meanwhile, in the quiet of a nearby forest, a team of Konoha shinobi moved through the shadows, escorting a bridge builder on a seemingly routine mission. They'd already encountered the Demon Brothers, dispatched easily by the sharp teamwork of Sarutobi Konohamaru, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno.

Kakashi Hatake observed his students with a sense of pride. He couldn't have asked for a better team. While Sasuke and Konohamaru were frequently at each other's throats, their competitiveness spurred growth rather than discord. Both understood the demands of a mission and displayed a maturity way above their years. Over the past year and half, their already intense training had been dialled up, especially for Konohamaru. Under the tutelage of Lord Jiraiya, he had begun to control the Nine-Tails chakra, with additional guidance from both the Third Hokage and Lord Alaraya, who taught him elemental transformation, advanced sealing techniques, and strategic combat. For a genin, Konohamaru was already at the high chunin level, bordering on Jonin.

Then there was Sasuke, who was every bit Konohamaru's equal. With his fully matured Sharingan and training from his father and fellow Uchiha clansmen, he had honed his skill to impressive levels. And while Sakura was not yet on par with her teammates in raw power, she was adept in genjutsu and medical ninjutsu, her chakra control precise and her foundational skills solid. Form the reports, she had outgrown her days as a fangirl after 'his' intervention in their teaching, becoming a diligent shinobi with a unique set of skills. All three of them became serious after 'his' tenure as their sensei.

Kakashi had invested time and effort in her training, even trading favors with colleagues to ensure his students received top-notch instruction. He remembered, with a twinge of nostalgia, their bell test a year ago—how miserably they'd failed it at first, only to surprise him by sharing their food despite the rules. It reminded him of another team from long ago… or rather, one individual. Someone he hadn't given the courtesy of a second chance.

Suddenly, a shadow shifted, and a figure emerged, evading even Kakashi's finely tuned senses.

"Kakashi Hatake… it's been a long time, hasn't it?" The voice was unmistakable—a low, dangerous tone that brought all three genin to a halt, their eyes widening. Every student in their batch would recognize that voice, a voice they had come to know as the 'monster's voice'.

The silence was palpable as the man stepped into the light, a faint smirk on his face. "Indeed, Kakashi. If I'm not wrong, the last time we spoke was at my bell test."

Kakashi's gaze hardened, his stance shifting defensively. "Fuck, Of all the times…"
